  1. The players should be held accountable! I didn't see 'D. Bailey' listed in the back line that leaked 37 goals I didn't see 'D. Bailey' listed in the midfield that had a 240 possession deficit I didn't see 'D. Bailey' listed in the forward line that kicked only 7 goals We could have had the reincarnate of Norm Smith coach us yesterday and we still would have lost by 186 points! There was no intensity from the opening bounce. Ox was saying on SEN yesterday that Port Melbourne (the best VFL side) wouldn't have lost by 186 points yesterday either! Our boys (with the exception of a rare few) showed stuff all yesterday! So much for showing the world how much Dean Bailey meant to them.
  2. I really don't understand the hate for Bailey and smart-arse comments toward his future. Here is a bloke who walked into a rabble and built a list which we have today... a list that a lot of you talk about as '2014 premiers'. He had a set plan when he walked into the club, and stuck by it all the way up until yesterday. He didn't waiver from his commitment to build from the ground up, he has developed a list that should be a contender in a few seasons, he put the list ahead of himself. He could quite easily have kept list-cloggers and traded in quick-fixes, yet he didn't. As embarrassed as I am about our performance yesterday, I am nowhere near embarrassed about that as I am of some of our supporters. Some of you are a disgrace! I go to the footy and sit in my seat week in-week out and just shake my head at some of you. How some of you can rejoice at a bloke losing his job is beyond me! How some of you could throw your scarf in the bintIs beyond me too. We don't want you as 'supporters'... by all means, please, microwave your membership so I and other supporters don't have to put up with your crap every week. Also, whilst you're at it, please cancel your registration to this website. Thanks.
  3. I genuinely feel sorry for Bailey. You can't blame a coach for a 186pnt loss!
  4. Is it just me who thinks Clarkson is overrated? Seriously, he has a playing list that consists of Franklin, Hodge, Mitchell, Roughead, Rioli, etc and he has one premiership to show for it. Had Geelong kicked straight in 2008, he'd have no premierships. Yeah, he introduced the tactics of 'pressing' and so forth, but Eade introduced flooding too and he has no premierships to show for it. Just cause you can introduce a 'revolutionary' game-plan means nothing. I want a coach who can make a team play as a team. A team who can drive his team to lift beyond their talent. A Leigh Matthews type. A Malcome Blight type.
  5. I highly doubt we will produce another performance like today, yet if we do... what do Stynes and Schwab have to do with the on-field stuff? They can't kick goals for the team, they can't get clearances, they can't tackle an opposition player. Not happy with Scully, Trengove, Tapscott, Gawn, McKenzie, ect?
  6. Seriously? Stynes and Schwab got the club back on it's feet... now, you wanna say 'Thanks, and goodbye'? Throw those two away and you may as well kiss MFC goodbye in 10yrs. Connolly is pretty quiet actually. Don't hear much from him... considering how media-savy he was at Fremantle. Prendergast has done a really good job in recent years with recruitment. Our issue is players above 23yrs of age, which is on Craig Cameron's head. Without Prendergast picking a few nice diamonds from the rough, I reckon we would be in more trouble on-field.

    GAMEDAY

Ox is absolutely FUMING on SEN1116! Paraphrasing: "I have never been more embarrassed in a side, especially a side I barrack for, in my entire life. This is dispicable"
  8. What? Am I missing something? Haha
  9. Doesn't surprise me that it's been noticed. There has been approximately 100 pages with the three Scully threads. Haha. Anyone give a credible reason why he was absent?
  10. This is the first time I've posted on any Scully thread from memory... I could be wrong though. I am still confident that Scully will stay, and I believe everything he has said thus far, unlike some people on here obviously. I have full confidence in the club getting the best outcome for the team... whether it is with or without him. Anyway, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet (I can't be bothered filtering through 14 pages) but I noticed something when the boys were singing the song after beating Port Adelaide on Saturday night... there was one notable absentee from the circle of players after the game. Don't need to be a rocket scientist to realise who it is considering this thread. Maybe it was because of his knee... I don't know, but it just seemed odd considering the speculation that would arise from his absence. Anyway, click on the link: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/dee%20tv/tabid/8667/default.aspx#playvideo#playvideo - Click on 'Melbourne sings their club song'
  11. I say we try pair our players up with Bianca Franklin (Lance Franklin's sister) who plays for Adelaide Thunderbirds in the ANZ Netball Championship. She is about six foot tall and obviously has footy genetics in her blood. Max Gawn and Lauren Jackson would be a good match up... could create a versatile 220cm ruckman for our tilt at 2035 premiership. Haha As stupid as all this sounds... it isn't really science fiction. There is a book about Yao Ming (229cm Chinese NBA superstar) that says Chinese officials planned his parents (who were both basketball players of great height) marriage, and then forced Yao to play basketball in his youth despite a clear hatred for the sport. It also states that he was given growth hormones as a child to accelerate his growth, despite already being above average height. Anyway, the rest is history... he went pick #1 in the 2002 NBA draft, and is/was one of the greatest Centres of the modern era. Although rumour has it that he will announce his retirement today. EDIT - Bianca Franklin is now married to Rugby player Matt Giteau. Ahh well, at least our rugby stocks are in good stead for the future. Haha
  12. The shoot-outs between champions. One-on-one football! Carey v Jakovich Silvagni v Ablett/Lockett/Dunstall/Modra I also miss the goalkicking superstars. I remember turning on Saturday afternoon replay with Scott Palmer. You'd have Dunstall kicking 9 at Waverley, meanwhile at Kardinia Park, Ablett was well held by Frawley and ONLY kicked 6, whilst Lockett was up the other end kicking 11. The previous night Modra went beserk on Friday night footy at Football Park kicking 10 against Richmond! Those were the days! I'm only 25, and I reckon that football as a spectacle peaked in the mid-late '90s. Ever since Wallace beat the unbeatable Essendon in 2000 with Flooding, football has gone backwards massively. I don't even watch it now aside from going in every week to watch the Dee's play.
  13. Yeah, I know... and I have absolutely no idea why! It won't clash with anyone (besides Gold Coast and maybe Sydney, but we don't need a clash against them anyway)! It's frustrating... obviously we as a club are trying to comply with 'rules' and have brought up the idea of wearing a red clash jumper, and the AFL has said 'NO!', yet they will stand by and do nothing when Essendon comes up with their [censored]-poor excuse of a clash jumper which is predominantly RED! Vlad Demetriou and his hench-men have absolutely no idea! The sooner he resigns to retirement, the better. Seriously!
  14. My opinion on the whole clash jumper is that we need to design something that most supporters like (maybe put it to a member vote). We as a club are yet to find something that is liked by most of our fan base... but once a design is 'voted' upon or whatever, STICK WITH IT, don't change it every season! There is no reason why a clash jumper can't become synonymous with our club too... something that players and fans alike can wear with as much pride as our traditional home jumper. We are the oldest club in the AFL and have a proud history... which we are clearly trying to show through the recent design of our emblem (has a big story behind it), mascots (designed to replicate our mascot from our 1950s-1960s glory years), and home jumper (again designed to replicate that of our glory years). Whilst, the introduction of a clash jumper is a relatively new 'phenomenon'... there is no reason why we can't include some of our history in it also. The recent (and current) clash jumpers display no history whatsoever. The design I have proposed (and I and others have proposed it in the past also) includes history, looks traditional, and avoids a clash with EVERY club.
  15. I don't see why we can't have a red clash jumper. Essendon seems to get away with a red clash uniform... so why can't we? My dream clash strip from 2012 onwards. It looks like a traditional football jumper, and incorporates a bit of club history whilst avoiding a clash (front and back) with the likes of Fremantle, Essendon, St. Kilda, etc. I would seriously buy this if it was introduced... and I am sure many other members would too.
  16. My issue with the current clash strip is the lack of history and story it brings to the table. I'd rather a plain white guernsey with a navy blue & red intertwined 'MFC' monogram in the middle (similar to the MCC), or a red guernsey with a navy blue 'MFC' mongram in the middle. That way it still ties in with the history of the club. We have the 'MFC' monogram in our logo, and we also used to use training tops with the 'MFC' monogram. I don't hate the current clash... just don't like the lack of past relevance it carries, when it seems like we as a club are trying to get back more to the past traditions.
  17. The funny thing in all of this is, that the child we are talking about is most likely more mature than some of you. If you think I am talking about you... Then you have probably guessed correctly.
  18. ... and the Irish are probably saying 'The Australians should get serious and drop the Australian Rules crap. I'll take interest in this when it becomes Gaelic, not a hybid soccer/football mutation'. Mutation or nothing
  19. Whilst I admit that this is pretty common knowledge to most people, just because a person didn't know the news means nothing... so get off his back and stop picking fun at him. I've got a mate in Perth who is as big a Melbourne supporter you will see, and he didn't know about Viney until I told him, which was a few days after the fact. I know most people joke around in good fun on here, but some people get their rocks off on belittling other people I reckon. Get a life!
  20. It frustrated me then... and it still frustrates me now. We have improved, but we still have a long way to go. Against Sydney we did this perfectly... hopefully we can get it to happen 'perfectly' on a more consistant basis from 2011 onwards
  21. I expected more than that... that's less than a dollar per person in the crowd. I myself put $25 in, and I saw atleast two people in my row put in a $50 note each! Still a great effort, I just would have thought that more was donated! CARN THE DEE'S!

    DAWN

The biggest thing that I noticed yesterday that was different in terms of strategy was our kicking out from full back. Previously (and frustratingly) we would all stand inside or around the defensive 50 and then the full back would try to kick to a stagnant target who has managed to find some space, or if that isn't working we would just bomb long to the big Russian! Yesterday I noticed something different... we would cluster into a group at the top of the defensive 50 to create space on the flanks, and then we would use our pace advantage and recieve the kick-ins in that open space on the flanks. It worked very very well! Players were marking the ball at pace (rather than standing still), and we were able to run the ball down the wing. I know this isn't innovative play, because other clubs have been employing it for years... but it was surprising to see something new from us, and it worked very well with our 'run-and-carry' game play. I know that Sydney wasn't using the best zone to block space on the flanks, and other teams will block that space... but it was just good to see a plan B in this area. I know that he has his knockers (even I have had my doubts) on this website, but Bailey is a very intelligent and strategic coach! I am in no doubt that he knows what he wants from each individual game in terms of game style, and he is trying to SLOWLY build a unit that can play a plan A, B, and C brand of footy. It doesn't happen overnight, and we as supporters need to be patient and remember that!
  23. This might be wishful thinking, but keep the pick and hope that Jack Darling manages to get through to us. Dominated the U18 National Championship last season as an under-ager (He booted 14.2 in five games and was Champion Data's top ranked player for the carnival) and was named All-Australian CHF. GC18 have locked in Swallow at Pick #1, and are looking like taking Harley Bennell and Sam Daye in the top-3... so hopefully Darling can get through to us, so we can get him. He is 190cm and 90kg... which is historically short for the position (and may see him slide), but he will DOMINATE at CHF in the AFL, mark my words! Unbelievable contested mark, loves the hard contest, and has good defensive pressure. This kid is Jonathan Brown 2.0+. To give you an idea how good he is... look at these stats from a game against South Australia last year: 19 disposals at an efficiency of 88% 9 marks including 7 contested 8 tackles 7 inside 50’s 4 goals and 4 goal assists ________________________ 308 Champion Data points Highlights from U18 National Championship 2009 (Western Australia - #28) Highlights from WAFL Seniors Debut 2009 (West Perth - #31)
  24. Just thought I would post an 'updated' version of a possible 2010 jumper using some suggestions from this site. Changes made: - Changed the colour of the yoke to a darker 'blood red' - Started the yoke higher up on the arm cuff, and extended the bottom point another 2-3cm - Added a 'Demon' to the front of the jumper under the sponsor logo - Removed '1858', and replaced it with the traditional 'MFC' logo (just an idea I had). Thats about it... comments appreciated.
