It’s not a joke, it’s not just words, indigenous people aren’t being too ‘sensitive’, these slurs are bringing up all of that history of being thought of as sub-human which is massively alienating and hurtful. It is something white guys like me will, never, ever understand or actually be made to feel like this. It’s alien to us as in racial terms, we have always been ‘normal’ (I.e. white) Australians.

    Greta post BoBo.

You can see the pain in the faces of players that have spoken about this issue. It is obviously incredibly hurtful and disrespectful to them. Some of them look gutted.

The only positive is I do believe as bad as it has been at times, things are improving a little bit.

Maybe I am wrong and just live in a different world. Sad to say back in the 70s and 80s going to the footy as a teenager and then a young adult I heard some bad stuff on too many occasions. But while I don't get to as many games anymore I don't hear any negative comments at all.

Obviously its still happening, but I'm buoyed by the fact that its shouted down in this day and age and rightfully so.

Lets hope we can continue to educate people on the pain this causes but I guess there will never be a cure for total irrationality.

Its really un-australian and unsportsmanlike to be honest

    Thanks Wadda.

Could not agree more. I'm sure its not the whole crowd but sure sounds  like a lot of them. I mean who goes to the footy and openly jeers a player to miss a shot on goal? Not us.

One may quietly hope they miss but doesn't actively boo so as to put them off their kick. Bunch of ferrals as far as I'm concerned and it just makes the win so much sweeter.

As for being un -Australian, I hope they all drove home soaked to the bone only to find their homes burnt down by the lightening strikes that didn't turn up at Optus stadium. Cheers.

There’s no other supporter base anything like them. They are full of self entitlement and believe the world is against them.

A lot of their fans have absolutely no idea about the game. One thing I will give the Dockers fans is that generally they have an understanding of the game with so many of them coming from East and South Freo in the WAFL days

It makes the win just so much sweeter.

No wait...deliberately giving them hope and a look in after the lightening break and then running out the clock made it better.

    Maybe wrecking their finals dreams.

Or maybe they all went home soaked. I dont know.... but I loved it.

This decision was in keeping with the way that has been adjudicated all year - which I disagree with. They brought in a rule that you had to stand perfectly still on the mark to free the game up, but now players do everything they can to hold the ball up once a decision or mark has been paid. Why can’t the umpire say return the ball in 3,2,1 and if it’s not returned it’s 50.

The game will then be freer, faster and more skilful.

Petty was lucky but to be fair we were unlucky with a lot of other non decisions.

Despite being lucky it was great tatics.

I think eagles fans are just too used to getting the rub of the green over there.

There is not one other player in our team who i would be confident to kick that goal. I was sure Melksham was going to.

Used to be a big fan of him but thought his laat ywo years have been well below.

At his best, three years ago he was an elite athelete and very fast for his size. He use of ball was excellent.

If Jake gets back to three qrts of his old form and intensity it coyld be a big factor in our remaining games and finals.

Great to see a few growing in form and the introduction of Bowey late in the season.

Could all the planets be aligning?

He was the best forward on the ground. Darling did SFA and Kennedy was hampered by injury (I think Kennedy is a monster FF and an absolute star but he’s in his twilight now).

Eagles are well and truly an aging team compared to us. I think they had about 10 players in the over 150 game zone compared to us with about 3. Their reign is over and ours is starting to begin. We had about ten outs from the prelim game and some wonderful new young ins. No wonder eagles fans are frustrated.

Find the footage of him stuck in first gear when Jordon laced it out to him and tell me that’s still true.

He had a number of very good moments. Including one lovely goal and one solid mark and goal. Got a gift for his other goal, and should’ve probably got more from the umps but he hasn’t bought his umps with him from North. Missed 2 chances entirely.

Took an important contested mark late. Then turned it over by not making the distance down the line.

Overall he was solid and he’s putting in the effort to adapt to the game plan and play his role. But he’s still just fighting to stay up to the pace of the game. And has moments where he’s just completely off it.

My criticism is with anyone suggesting he played really well or is on the verge of breaking out. There’s nothing to suggest that so far.

On a wet night he held seven marks(our highest) bought the ball to ground which resulted directly in two goals...kicked 3 himself, laid two very solid tackles and also rucked. Was our best forward by far.

Been saying this since I first saw him train at Casey. Been a huge wrap for him ever since. Has played exceptionally well at Casey, but last night sheeit he was really very very good. Can see him playing 200 games and being better than Caleb Daniels who I rate highly🤩

I guess hes ok for a fanta pants. Will be a big part of future success.

  9. Did anyone count the number of frees Nicholls gave eagles compared to us. Hes a shocker. Id guestimate it was about 14 to seven.

He was a shocker in the cats v swans game i watched this year as well. And i agreed with a review of his work of that game that stated...Forward Jeremy Cameron wasnt paid a mark close to goal as umpire Nicholls adjudged the kick had not travelled the required distance, which it did as the AFL accepted the next day. In another piece of play, James Rowbottom should have been penalised for holding the ball from a tackle by Geelong skipper Joel Selwood. Nicholls was again the officiating umpire but he ruled thesiren had saved the Swans.

I think he showed constant poor judgement again last night and gave eagles way too many softies close to goal. Obviously hes a lot closer😁 but aside from the sheer number of dubious ones paid it was the lack of holding the man calls he made. Watching the replay, a lot of our players were held off the ball and a couple of the insufficuent intents on a wet night were not in the spirit of the rule or hes adept in mind reading.

Time to put him out to pasture.

    Couldn't help yourself, could you.

    Brown played well last night.

Absolutely. Even when he wasnt clunking them he got the ball to a comp. Does more than the stats show. So thrilled we got him and hes getting back to his old self.

Fritsch is a poor wet weather footballer. It’s hard enough to be a tall marking forward in the wet but when you’re a medium marking forward it’s even harder.

Agreed. Which is why I thought doggas and bb marks were fantastic.

That was a most unusual 5 quarters of footy that I have ever witnessed, we were all over them in the 4th but the Magoos got them off to a flyer in the 5th after stopping the game for 30 minutes (what a bizarre joke). Our third quarter was fantastic and it was really great to  see our lesser lights play so well all game. Milkshake was a great inclusion, Alex was brilliant in his 100th we stood up all over the ground, Bowey is all class and we beat the Eagles, the Umps and the Boo Hoo supporters over there in totally hostile conditions.

    Brave effort DEES.!!!!!!

I noticed with the camera in the rooms we seemed to spend a lot of time during tge lightening break excercising while eagles sat still for most of theirs. I was wondering if we wore ourselves out. At the end of the day eagles had the momentum of ours rubbed out by the break. They stormed home with manic play, bad umpiring, the wind at their backs, nothing to lose and some bad misses and a little panic by us but no cigar. Poor eagles fans. All wet and no points.

  13. Great to see some players return to great form. The only ones struggling are spags and fritta but thats ok ...theyll pick up.

Anb, Harmes , Rivers, bb and Jackson are back playing their best and just in time.

And we bought in Bowey just before finals.

NicNat is a cameo footballer. He does a couple of neat things in the first few minutes of the quarter and then you don’t see him till the next quarter.

Hes touted as one of the best ruckman about but we all know that is Maxy as demonstrated last night. Max may be a shocker at set shots although has gotten a little better ie his banana against gc, his crumbing, marking and tap outs are par excellence and he shows a huge ammount of leadership.

At the ground last night after the full time siren you would think the handful of Dees fans would be a little disappointed with the umpiring performance. No, it was the Eagles fans en masse leaning over the fence and hurling abuse at the umpires. One of the most disgusting supporter groups in the country. Make Essendon supporters look half decent after that effort.

Talk about entitled. I do believe their booing does impact the umpiring and is the reason they do it.

Its the booing of opposition kicking set shots that does my head in.

  16. I get why but Bb dropped after three games earlier this was in hindsight a big mistake.

H2o under the bridge and im glad hes had time to run into form.

As Richardson said last night, not many blokes who have kicked sixty plus three years in a row.

Big game and statement from him coming up v the crows.

I've been listening to the summary of the last 15 minutes - how the WC big dogs got them back into the game.  Isn't that the major problem with them?  In the third quarter, when the game was essentially won, Gawn smashed NicNat.  NN didn't trouble the statisticians for the quarter in terms of disposals, whereas Gawn was dancing around like a ruck rover.  Some of his field kicking (including on the left) was amazing.  Same with Yeo - a great last quarter no doubt, but again only when there was nothing to lose.  No doubt we'll hear from Gerard Healy about how great they are but in reality they are generally a lazy, conditional footy team.  I can't see them making finals now and had we not had the interruption last night, we win that game very comfortably.

    Great post.

Gawn was superb. He was crumbing like a small rover at times and in slippery conditions.

    Captains effort.

Nibbler gunned it tonight. Well done!

    Any word on Hunts injury?

Back to his best form and the same with Luke Jackson. Thought Rivers and Petty were as well.

Gee that Bowey is a keeper.

Bb is showing us why we lured him.

If Fritta gets back to his best as well, its going to be a potent forward line.

Hunt was laughing with the boys after the win. Either its not too bad or it is and the bloke is incredibly positive.
