Ok, so just finished replay (a 4.40 start is not condusive to having 2 year old twins and watching live). It's taken amazing self control to not look at Demon land all evening, thought I'd post first, then read the thread. YOU [censored] BEAUTY!!!! some observations- apologies if already covered: - We OUTCOACHED St. Kilda. They had that spare man thing going in the 1st q, but was nullified thereafter. Our defensive structures were tailored to the ground and team. We adjusted ball movement to be a bit more lateral to account for the spare defender. It worked! Tick to Goody. - Dwayne Russel is still a dick. He needs to learn the Dees players names at last and clearly barracks for Saints. - Bernie Vince BOG and narrowly dodged a serious eye injury from the goal umpire. - we probably should have won by a lot more. - Salem is a smart, silky player. So good having him firing; everything he did tonight was mint. - Oscar was....well, Oscar. Redeemed himself somewhat late in the game but a real worry. - Lewis is just all class. - No one likes to see a serious injury, but a telling moment when Riewoldt went down. You could see the Saints realise what may happen when the oldies drop off. And Riewoldt down / Petracca goal just said it all to me. - I could go on, but I'd better read the thread! So there it is, a couple of monkeys off the back. Round 1 weirdness mostly out of the way (just seeing all the upset results now) now lets knuckle down and get stuck into 2017!! Go you good things.

Yeah well, what can I say, I'm a rebel. It was a rainy day at the top of the old northern stand at the G, circa 1987. Melbourne were thumping the Filth and as a five year old sensing Dad's discomfort, declared I now barrack for the Dees. Fast forward six years and he still hadn't bought me a Melbourne scarf or beanie. I had to go to 'footy day' at primary school wearing black and white, but reassuring everyone "it's ok, I actually go for the Dees". To be fair, he took me along to plenty of Dees games, but I suffered many boring afternoons at Victoria Park. I would amuse myself by collecting 'cash-a-cans' and climbing the scoreboard with other kids. To this day, I still don't think he's forgiven me.

I was there as a little tacker. My Filth supporting Father still says is the best game he's ever been to!

Speaking of Slobbo, how remiss not to mention his 'sidekick', Gerard Whately. His commentary is vivid, intelligent and actually impartial. And with that loveable demeanour, I wish he was my uncle (even more than Bitter B.O)

What with all the season and ladder predictions being flung around this week by journalists and pundits alike - personality (or lack thereof) aside, who's opinion in the media do you take seriously and why? For me, I think Matthew Lloyd offers insightful, balanced and usually accurate analysis. I also mostly mirrored his tipping in the second half of last year and finished 2/100 in my workplace competition! (cheers Lloydy, $450 big ones!) And it's hard to go past Brad Johnson's Nostradamus-like call on Fremantle at the start of last year. From memory, he was also pretty spot-on with tracking the Demons' progress through last season. Dermie, on the other hand, micro-analyses everything to an inch of its life, but can't seem to see the forest for the trees.

Granted, their song is gender specific (ie, "SONS of the west"), perhaps that's why they felt compelled to change the lyric. Either way, its a terrible song. Ours is clearly the best song in the AFL.
