Frawley and Garland were both much better than Schoenmakers at the same age, but your point about being too hard on undeveloped players is a good one. Especially tall defenders, who often come on later than most.

I wonder how Adelaide feel about missing their man? http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=871604

I believe that it is like trading for a pick. You can make a bid for pick 1, or you can make a bid for pick 2. That's how I believe it works.

Jaded, you're just seeing what you want to see. Freo have many advantages over us at the moment. a) Sandi, B) Pavlich, c) Ability to rebound quickly next year, d) money, both for him and also footy department funding. For someone whose strength certainly seems more in the 'finishing' side of coaching, these make Freo more appealing than us at the moment. He also knocked back 4 more years with St Kilda, so it looks like the move of a career coach.

If GWS want another of our players then we have to agree to the trade. Our player dealings with GWS from now on are just the same as they would be with any other AFL club.
-
T-shirt Tommy is so very, very definitely fitness coach.
-
These names are great, but what roles would they play in our most premiershipingest football department? After all, any role that is not filled by a premiership coach would just be another example of the MFC accepting mediocrity.
-
Fan, what role would you give Tony Jewell in our most premiershipingest football department ever? OK, so at the moment we have: General Manager of Football Operations : Robert Walls Senior Coach: Allan Joyce Youth development: David Parkin TBA: Tony Jewell.
-
Maybe we could get him in a youth development role.
-
Joyce would have a greater premiership percentage than Walls, so I agree Nasher. Maybe we could have Walls as a General Manager of Football. That way we will get double the premiership coach experience and will be unbeatable. I want to start up a 'Joycey/Wallsy 2012' movement. Can we do it? Yes we can!!
-
Maybe we should throw some serious coin at Robert Walls. He's a premiership coach.

I think they've been wanting to get rid of the priority pick for a little while, especially with all the tanking talk. This is just a more seamless way to do it.
-
Anderson foreshadowed that the pre-first round priority picks 'will be looked at closely'. The early priority picks are not currently being handed out due to the compromised drafts, but it seems highly likely that the picks will not be reintroduced. But it's all just what has been based on intimation.

I have a line?

This post needs more cliches.

Any idea promoted by Mark Robinson has a lot of work to do to gain enough credibility for me to even consider it.

The picks aren't known exactly. It depends on factors such as finishing position and whether or not a club decides to activate their pick in a given year. This is just a guide to show people what the effective worth of the compensation is.
-
O'Meara would likely be pick 1 or 2 next year. I'm talking about the effective worth of the trade. If you're thinking literally, it is first round compo pick + mid-first round compo pick for first pick of the under 17s.
-
The question is, would you trade our 2 compo picks in 2012 for pick 1/2 in 2012? ie, would you trade pick 11 and 12 for pick 2? I would. I'd be willing to pay a bit more too.
-
Thanks for that, Jack D. I'm not sure it's quite right, because the two mid-first round compo picks (Scully and Ablett) will be next to each other, while the Davis and Ward picks will be after the Bulldogs and Adelaide first picks. So, assuming that they all finish in the same position next year, it would be: 1- GWS 2- GC 3- Port 4- Bris 5- Adel 6- Adel (Davis Rnd 1 Compo Pick) 7- Melb 8- Melb (Scully Rnd 1 Compo Pick) 9- Rich 10- Freo 11- Bull 12- Bull (Ward Rnd 1 Compo Pick) 13- Kang 14- Melb (Scully mid-first round Compo Pick) 15- GC (Ablett mid-first round Compo Pick) Then the other picks will be from pick 25ish onwards. It's certainly interesting when you look at the value of each of the picks next if we're trading them to GWS for under 17s.
-
The other team that can get close to our offer would be Gold Coast. They have a mid 1st round pick like us (due to a trade for part of Geelong's Ablett compensation). They also have an end of first round pick (from Brisbane). We have a mid first round compo pick and a first round compo pick. Other than that, Gold Coast have pick 4 in this draft. It'll be interesting to see how much it's going to cost for O'Meara.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I can understand why RR is going so hard on this issue now. After all, I give it about half an hour before he takes a fairly significant holiday.

Yep, it's been a good day of cricket, Jack. We bowled very well. Same as the first match, where we have been relentless in our bowling discipline. Just over 2 and a half an over during the Sri Lankan innings. As for Lyon, I think he has a lot of promise. I like the way he is able to drop the ball on the batsmen. Probably needs to develop a bit of variation, but his stock ball shows good signs. I also thought that Hughes looked very good in the time he and Watson batted before stumps. Very composed against both pace and spin.

This should be in the other Scully thread. It transcends nothing.
