R.Biffin - Just loved the guy.

Crackers Keenan - Great bloke and a good player.

    G.Baker - A character,good player and a top bloke

    G.Wells - highly skilled,gutsy and loved the club .

M.Jackson- was a better player than he gets credit for but was a nutter

    Balls

    Ox

    Wiz

    Garry

    Viney

  3. For what it's worth

    B.     L.Fowler   S.Wight    A.Johnson

    HB.   B.Lovett   D.Neitz    G.Hardeman

    C.    S.Alves (c)  G.Wells(v.c)   R.Flower(d.v.c)

    HF.  G. Lyon     D.Schwartz  G.Parke

    F.   J.Farmer   A.Jakovich   G.Healy

    R.  J.Stynes    T.Viney  N.Jones

    Int. S.Tingay  R.Biffin  R.Grinter  J.Townsend

    Emg. S.Febey  G.Lovett  D.Hughes  B.Green  B.Wilson T.Johnstone  A.Obst

    G.Yeates  S.Stretch M.Febey  A.Yze   J.McDonald  A.Ingerson  A.Davey

Cant decide on who for final emergency so taking the easy option

Just from the players i have seen play, i think this team would have a crack.

And just for fun again my other team of players who would have played more games but didn't either because of injury or left the club/came to the club.

    B.      A.Jarrott (v.c)   P.Walsh  S.Zantuck

    H.B.  P.O'Brien    S.Icke  T.Broadbridge

    C.   M.O'Sullivan  K.Dyson  D.Kowal

    H.F.  R.Dillon   E.Spalding  L.Jurrah

    F.    R.Brewer  M.Jackson   P.Moore

    R.  C.Ditterich (c.c)  G.Molloy  P.Callery

    Int. from C.Bartram  L.Newton  S.O"Dwyer  G.Osbourne

    W .Dean  A.Lovell  P.Hopgood  P.Carmen  P.Prymke

I think Newton, O'Brien,O'Sullivan & Troy could have been mainstays/stars if not for injury and of course death and maybe some have been given abit of a lift as i remember them as a "youngin" and they were all "great" and heroes to me.

No doubt in the world i have forgotten some :)

My Saturday questions/statements, about this include

1 As above what is the Casey membership numbers as in supporters? How many of these are derived from the old Springvale supporters?

2 What are the details of this agreement which was generated in the CC/ CS Administration years and is this considered a good deal? Does anyone know?

3 How much does it actually cost over and above the current costs associated with the alignment to field a stand alone team?

4 What aspects of Football decisions/ operations do we not have?

5 How many MFC supporters not to mention general footballing public give a Rats about Springvales History? and for that matter what actually is Casey Scorpions/ Demons as an entity? is it a feeding ground? A place for our list to play if not in the firsts? Do MFC Members give a toss about Casey other than the fact our players play there?

Really as a professional footbal club we should have our own stand alone Reserves side. I'll leave it at that.

Casey/Springvale supporters give a rats !!! just because they are a VFL team does not mean the passion is not there, how do you think supporters feel when they lose their club.

It might be good to remember how you felt with the proposed merger,we nearly lost our club it was not a good time and if you cant see past the AFL then how do you think Fitzroy supporters feel .

One of the reasons besides financial we havent had our own reserves is we dont have a suburban ground that we used to play on, we have only ever been at the G and we cant play there so an alignment is our only option .

Its a good deal for both clubs.

  6. Well said, vale Troy Broadbridge just starting out in life, just married, starting to establish himself in the team and i think he would have had a good career, just taken far to young :(   but also his family and everyone close to him who would miss him our hearts go out to you all .

To everyone who lost someone on that day i hope that you all have as good a day as you can.

Yes it does depend on where you live, a lot of us live in the northern and western suburbs and also a lot of us live in Geelong and Ballarat. I'll never go to Casey because I live in Geelong, it's half way to Gippsland for goodness sake.

Well then i suppose it comes down to how much you want to see them, i have traveled to the other side of the city many times it is just what you have to do sometimes.

I have gone to Bendigo before to watch a praccy match , just make a day of it but hey there is always foxtel.

Oh a lot of us live in the east , south and southeast as well , each to their own

  8. I suppose it all depends where you live . I love them being at Casey only because it is close to home but i agree the wind can be bloody shocking and it would have been smart to take the Glasshouse before Collingwood as we ARE Melbourne but i am not going to moan about being at Casey , only 20 min away and a potential huge supporter base plus i have been going in to the city for 40 years to see the team. its good every now & then to have them conveniently close to home :)

  9.  Just had to drag the old coat and have a look , loved it , wish they still wore them added some atmosphere.

The Victoria cheer squad was different with all cheer squads combined, was fun but not the same as your own team, no tribalism

From the site i linked above an fascinating excerpt from a book from a surprising author. the xcerpt is about the demons of 1965 (though the book is not about the dees). here is a very prescient quote from the excerpt :

'In spite of Smithy’s great record they’ll give him the La Fontaine treatment as soon as he shows signs of going soft and they have been grooming Noel McMahen for emergencies and protege Ron Barassi is another with his eyes on a coaching future. Still, I wonder if Barassi is Melbourne material. He is outspoken and impulsive and not the diplomat that fiery Norm is and I think Melbourne officials want a diplomat.'

    Can you guess the author?

That would have to be the great Jack Dyer , good ordinary player :)

Hey Old Demon Me.  That banner lasted a long time if it was the original. We made back in the 60's up a mates driveway and when we lifted it up after drying we were in trouble as it printed on the ground. We had a room in the pavilion where we stored the banners but if they were wet we took them home to Carnegie and hang them up on the railway line fence the next day to dry. A real effort to take them to the next match on the first train along with bags of cut-up paper. I'm still trying to work out how to post old photo's of the cheer squad.

Yea that was a great banner i think i remember that room had alot of junk in there and yea huge effort to take them home and bring them back on the train , hope you can put up some photos .

I am trying to think of the guy with long blonde hair who used to lead the cheer squad during the games. I well remember animal and the grog squad. They would put a few away too.

I think his name was Ed .

Sorry read it wrong, Ed didn't lead i think that's Steve your thinking of , if that was in my time in the 70's

  13. Great stuff guys i was in the cheersquad in the 70's as well, remember most of those guys now that names have been mentioned they were great days even if we didn't win that much.

Some of my memories are meeting early in the mornings of gameday at the G to hang up the banners, having a little fire at the back of the old southern stand to keep warm some mornings, used to take home a banner sometimes to open it up during the week to help air it out and dry used to roll it out along the footpath always loved the MELBOURNE - MASTERS OF THE MCG .

The cheersquad used to sit on the wing in the old southern stand , remember we played either Collingwood or Essendon cheersquad a couple of times and we won :) also the 1976 game at vic park, was so upset at missing the finals that year and a big fight in the field in front of the players race after the game the collingwood supporters were going off, Steve actually walked with me across the ground so nothing would happen to me, think i was about 14, good man ( still think Carlton lied down that day so we didn't make it !!! ) but also ripping up phone books during the reserves game to throw whenever we kicked a goal, the old duffle coat with Robbie"s name on the back and the old material cheersquad badges that mum had to sow on .

I still have it, my son wore it to the merger match when i thought i would not have a team anymore , lots more i remember thanks for starting this thread so long ago but have brought back great times even if we didn't win that often and why i love this club so much :) .

    cheers guys
