  1. From what I saw at training today both Watts and Salem good chances of playing, but not Tyson.
  2. Watts and Salem being put through their paces and doing well at training this morning. Both training with the main group earlier and hopefully will play on Saturday. Tyson not with main group and ran laps. Still seems to be favouring his knee.
  3. Spoke to Jesse after training today. Said he was happy with what he did with the main group, it went well, but will see how he goes at training on Friday. JKH was training with the forwards, Trengove and Maynard with the mids as was Vince. Not sure on Maynard's status as a rookie but he could be the 'smokey' selection if available to play and if Tyson is not fit, his place could be taken by either Maynard or Trengove.
  4. A lot of things to like today. Salem's first half when I thought he was BOG. He did not have the same amount of game time in the second half. Joel Smith great first half and spent not as much time in the second half. Oliver is a smart footballer with his quick hands and decision making and when Libba was on the ground, Oliver tagged and ran with him very well. Lewis's steadying influence and composure and I liked that he challenged Viney on an error Viney made in the third quarter. That said, Viney's acceleration away from the contest is terrific and he is a wonderful player for us. We seemed to make mistakes in going out from defence in the last quarter. I think it is going to take a bit of time to slot Vince into the defensive structure. Bernie likes to do things his way which is more acceptable up the ground but not in defence where defenders are accountable to one another. Gawn seems to have more tricks up his sleeve in his tap work. The opposition don't know where he is going to hit it which was not the case for most of last year and there was good understanding from the mids where Max was going to tap it. Brayshaw is essential to our team because of his fierceness, tackling and attack on the ball. I would like Weidemann to keep playing as he is a big man who flies at the ball and draws an opponent. Garlett thrives in those situations and Jeffy's unselfishness was a feature today. Both Weidemann and O Mac have bulked up and I wasn't sure last year but now feel that Oscar is going to very good and McCartney's recent praise of him Is a valuable insight. I thought a number of players had bulked up around the hips and thighs and it did not seem to diminish their speed. We contested well and were the better team for most of the day although I thought that the Doggies better players spent less time on the ground than our better players. Finally, Jesse looks in great nick and hopefully is going to have a super year. He took a couple of great grabs.

  6. Reported yesterday on possible trade for Salem. Not sure if it has been reported elsewhere on Demonland. I hope there is nothing in this. AFL Trade Rumours: Darling, Salem and Clarke
  7. Interesting on SEN this morning with Tim Gossage talking about Ballantyne leaving Freo he mentioned Cam McCarthy being there next year and possibly Rory Lobb from GWS as well who apparently wants to go home to Perth. This is good news if this happens so far as Jesse staying is concerned.
  8. Free may have struggled badly this year and this is why it is very important we defeat them and defeat them well at the week-end. This will send a strong message and if his teammates desperately want him to stay, as I am sure they do, the team has to excel against Freo. Otherwise, what sort of message does this send to both Jesse and our supporters as to any gap we might have now and in the future on Freo. Go Dees!
  9. I think it was a very good effort today and when we play our free flowing open game we are very exciting to watch. Chris Judd acknowledges us as one of the most exciting teams in the comp. The extremely disappointing aspect of the games was Adelaide's 4 goals in the first 6 minutes of the third quarter. That was the difference in the end as it gave them back momentum which we had by half time. No doubt the coaches would have talked about the importance of holding the Crows in the first half of Qtr 3 and I expect there were instructions on how to try to do this. Either the instructions were not that good or the execution was poor. We are two classy midfielders, one with leg speed, away from being a very good team apart from a CHF. The fade out in the first few minutes of Qtr 3 has to be 'in the head. ' Not good enough especially from our onfield leaders whom we are short of. Similar story in the first quarter where we need to regularly be better at. Too often we are giving away a 3 to 4 goal start at quarter time. The big question over the next few years is whether Salem, Brayshaw, Oliver and Weideman are going to make a difference. Hopefully they will but I would like to see us nab another class mid with 6 or 7 years experience. Sadly I think Trengove and Grimes are not going to take us up the ladder. Dunn and Garland are past it and Michie, Newton and Pederson not good enough. Another two good years from Lumumba would be very handy if he has it in him. I would like to see Neal-Bullen given more games to develop him and see if he can be a good footballer.
  10. An important point I think to consider is that Eddie McGuire and James Brayshaw are Chairmen of their footy clubs and the footballers in all clubs attend programs which counsel them on a number of issues which include violence towards women. What sort of an example are McGuire and Brayshaw setting for the players to follow when they guffaw and joke about drowning a woman. Despite what a number of others on this web site think, it is not a joke and it is so called 'friendly banter' gone very wrong. The fact that McGuire and Brayshaw say that they still have things to learn when it goes to what you can say and what you can't say in public is quite amazing for men in their respective positions.
  11. As I said in my earlier post, H said today that he will be back playing after the bye. Who do we believe, Scoop or Heritier?
  12. I spoke to Heritier after training today where he was doing mainly kicking and running drills with Daniel Cross. I asked him if he was going to be playing again soon and his words were 'I will be back after the break.' That maybe is his view and the Club may have a different view but he said it in a friendly, happy way that I came away believing him.
  13. Nathan Jones commented after the game that he was pleased to see Dawes back as he brought so much to our structure. I think Nathan carries a bit more weight to team selection than you do.
  14. While all this ridiculous chatter is going on let me add something just as ridiculous as this fits well with this post. Think Buddy and GWS. Where did he go? If Jesse wants to go back to Perth for family reasons, West Coast is a far more attractive proposition than Freo. And MFC would get a better player deal from WC than Freo if the Club accepted that Jesse did not want to stay. Think Judd to Carlton and what Carlton gave up. Admittedly Judd was older at the time than Jesse is now. It's all supposition anyway and watching Jesse play and his relationship with the other young guys at training, my take is he is going to sign a contract extension with us. We are on the up, up, up!
  15. Greg Denham in The Australian today says contract negotiations between Tom Mac are underway in an article headed 'McDonald, Demons talk Turkey.' On the other hand, Sam McLure in The Age says talks have stalled. Denham has direct quotes from Tom talking about our performances so I am more inclined to believe Denham who is normally on the money with his info. Maybe just my hopefulness as I don't want Tom to go.
  16. Gerard Healy recently said that Jason Dunstall has a very good knowledge of what is going on with playing lists at football clubs. The fact that he asked Gerard about Tom Mac on Monday night in regard to him signing up has me now suspicious that the Hawks may be interested in him. I am sure other clubs will be as good tall, mobile defenders are hard to find. The Hawks have not replaced Lake and Gibson is now the wrong side of 30. Add to that the Melbourne contingent - Frawley, Fagan, Yze, Neitz, Bruce, Fitzpatrick and even Clarkson himself, a former player, then I think something could be on with the Hawks who will also have a lot of room in the salary cap. I hope we don’t lose him as he is too valuable a player and his mobility and one grab marks will be very hard to replace in defence. His weakness is his kicking at times.
  17. Newton and Dunn are both emergencies and apparently did not play with Casey yesterday. Seems like there is going to be a change. Could it be Tyson who had back issues during the week?
  18. Ronald Dale was a wonderful, courageous and inspirational footballer. He invented ruck roving. He never gave up and he gave his absolute all in every game he played for the MFC. We haven't had anyone with the determination and endeavour that Barass had. For you young fellas disparaging his legacy, you have no idea what you are talking about as RDB is an icon of the MFC and one of the greatest characters to ever play Aussie Rules.
  19. This saga just cannot go on for a long period. All the press and media hype on it has to affect Jesse and his performance on the field. It also has to affect his team mates. His manager has a duty to Jesse to have this resolved asap. I think Jesse may sign on with us for 4-5 years with a team that is on the up, which gives him plenty of time left in his career to move back to the west at the age of 25-26. Given all the hype, we may get a surprise that a decision happens sooner rather than later as both Jesse and the Club cannot have all this constant conjecture continuing. It is destabilising for everyone. Wiser heads hopefully prevail.
  20. He is gone. This has Scully written all over it. Listening to Vince tonight on 'AFL Tonight' from what he said or rather did not say, I sensed Hogan is leaving.
  21. I have already accepted that Hogan is likely to go. Weidemann and Hulett are very promising young forwards and no doubt the Club are preparing for Hogan's departure. We will get some good draft picks from Freo. How many premierships have the Hawks won since Buddy left? The structure of the forward line is what matters and in Watts, Kent, Garlett, Petracca and Weidemann to come, I am confident the loss of Hogan will not be too great and there will be more money to share around our top quality players.
  22. Fantastic. Well done, James. Your run and carry, overlap and leg speed is very important to the team and you are a valuable member. With Jayden Hunt you have both been very big bonuses on top of our more highly publicised draft picks.
  23. I hope it is not going to be another Scully situation and Hogan next year says he will make a decision at the end of 2017. That signifies he is going. I have every faith in Glen Bartlett, Peter Jackson and Simon Goodwin convincing him to stay and Paul Roos will have a big input too. Why would you leave when we are on the up and Freo are on the downhill slope except, and I understand that, if Freo offers $1.5 mill a year for 10 years and his family is in Perth. I think Hogan would want to have success with his mates and if he were to sign on for 5 years only, that would still be a great result. Scully leaving was at a time when were no hopers and that is far from the case now. A serious chance at a premiership beckons in 3 to 4 years if we develop the way we should. Anyway the focus is on 2016 and while i am posting here in response to what Brown said tonight, perhaps we just forget talking about it till it becomes more relevant next year.
