  1. Can someone clarify the positions of players? I'm oversea and just updating score and stats. Is Wagner playing forward and is hogan in the middle?
  2. Go deees. Will be proud if we give our best win, loss or draw. Going to be a tough game, but anything is possible this season.
  3. Going to be a very tough win and at this point, I'd expect a loss. Having said that, this team is just so surprising and really team focussed that key personnel out doesn't bother me as much anymore. However, we just have too many outs I think for this game that it might make it just that little bit too hard to pull off a win. Will be very happy to be proven wrong
  4. IF we win today, next week's game will be a battle of the two most in form teams...will be awesome! Hope we get a win today, I think we will feel Watts' absence a fair bit and miss Jones' leadership...however, I still think we've got a chance! I'm tipping it'll be a close game with the luckier team on the day to come out on top.
  5. i agree, but i also dont like the sound of playing a west coast team that's lost four in a row...
  6. OMac I believe has the potential to be a really talented key position defender and we saw glimpses as to why in the second half of that game. He has all the qualities and skills to be a star but he just lacks confidence at this very moment. I have a feeling Goodwin must have said to OMac at half-time that he needs to stop panicking and to just back himself because the Oscar we saw in the first half was just a shadow of the one we saw in second. He fought hard to make a contest and showed great composure in what was a really frantic last half of footy. The truth of the matter is that key position players take time to develop and it's rare that they are born stars. We let players like Dunn go and persevere in giving OMac games to hopefully fast track his development and it is slowly starting to pay off. I hope this is a turning point for Oscar as yesterday's game will only enrich him with confidence and belief that he really can take on his opponents and win contests. Goody made deliberate mention of Oscar's game in the press conference and for good reason, he deserved it! I think the issue is we are expecting too much of players like Oscar and Weideman who are only still early in their development. Their inexperience will sometimes frustrate us, but giving the games is the best way we are going to see improvement and build a strong future - particularly for Oscar as we desperately need to improve our backline.
  7. maybe he is saving himself for a big second half?
  8. we are choking, can't believe we are doing this again.... ah it hurts to be a melbourne supporter
  9. good to see we haven't started slow... but got maintain it and give a good four quarter effort. Omac needs more confidence in his ability, he is holding himself back. Come on dees, let's win this!
  10. Luck hasn't been on our side in the first half of the season, but the way I see it, it has to come at some point and perhaps it will arrive in the second half of the season...or, potentially even better, in finals!!!
  11. wow jake lever is an absolute star. would love to get him but think he is almost a certainty to stay at the crows... we still should try and make a big offer to him
  12. this just spells a loss.... whenever we have a chance to jump up the ladder, we always lose. i hope this time is different
  13. You really would hope that's not the case as it's so important that he can get his mental health under control. If it is, regardless of Collingwood and Buckley's situation, you have to prioritise and secure the well-being of every player before anything else. It would be hugely disappointing if they were willing to jeopardise this all for a measly four points.
  14. Fasolo has also put his hand up for selection. Good to hear he is feeling mentally a bit better
  15. i think goldsack might be out too, he could barely use his arm in the last quarter
  16. I can't wait for the bulldogs game when we have both gawn and hoges back and hopefully our full best 22 side in... if we win that game, i'll be confident of finals.
  17. i deleted my comment because i posted it in the wrong thread... but i definitely agree - whether we make finals depends on us and us alone. however, i think in such an even competition this year, there will be some element of reliance on the results of non mfc matches to see who makes the eight.
  18. Best game so far: Adelaide obviously, but St. Kilda game is a close second. Worst game so far: North was pretty bad given we had just come off an incredible victory, but the one that really hurt the most was Richmond as we really should have won that had we not gone down with the two key position injuries. Most improved player: Hmm, I think we all sort of knew that Oliver was going to improve and have a ripper season this year. For me, I'm answering this based on most unexpectedly improved player and I would probably say Garlett. Obviously he is a great player, but I don't think anyone really expected him to improve so significantly compared to last season. He is really cementing his position as one of the top small forwards this season. A player who needs to lift: For sure, Dean Kent. He finished in our top 10 best and fairest last year and I was expecting him to only improve this year when he has in fact done the opposite. It has been a very disappointing start for Dean Kent. Who is currently leading the Bluey?: Probably Oliver, with Jones not far behind. However, I would say it'd be a lot closer between Oliver and Hibberd had Hibberd not missed the first few games. Hibberd performs and exceeds his role every week and is definitely one of our top five, if not, top three players this year. Best recruit: Hibberd probably based on the consistency of his performances since being added to the team. But both Lewis and Hannan have been great too, particularly Lewis for the leadership and composure he provides. Will we make the finals?: I hate answering this question because it is just so hard and unpredictable STILL at this stage of the season. I definitely think we are capable, but time will tell when we see how the return of Gawn and Hogan impacts our performances in the next half of the season. What I will say though is that we have not once played our full best 22 in any of these games this year with all of Frost, Gawn, Hibberd and Hogan not playing in the side together this season. All four of those players are integral to our structure and ability to implement our game style and I can't wait until they all run out together at some point. Obviously our best 22 still fluctuates but all those players are absolute certainties. I think once we have some of those key position players, we will find more consistency and be a lot more dangerous - whether it is enough to make finals, I still don't know but I sure hope so. It is funny though that we still managed to win with Gawn and Hogan in the team against Carlton despite playing absolutely [censored]...so maybe that is an indication of how those tight games will pan out in the second half of the season when we aren't playing our best footy. Go dees!
  19. I don't know about up until this round but after our win against Adelaide i think, we ranked fourth for most quarter won... so we actually have been winning a lot of quarters, it is just that the quarters we lose, we tend to lose drastically.
  20. Gawn I think is estimated to be back for the Bulldogs game and so I'm assuming with Spencer ahead of Gawn, Spencer will play for the Pies game. https://www.facebook.com/7AFL/videos/vb.510082722500876/815202831988862/?type=2&theater
  21. While yesterday was hugely disappointing and hurts a lot, I am trying to take a glass half full approach. We are a better side than North and should have won, but with the competition so close, unexpected losses and unexpected wins will happen (e.g. losing against North, winning against Adelaide). The absence of Gawn and Hogan is really being felt and if I told you that they’d only play for 3 and 4, respectively, of the first 12 games before the season started, you would have felt our chances were obliterated entirely – but they aren’t. We have been competitive in all our matches and have found ourselves in a winning position in every match. And ultimately, whilst our inconsistency does raise doubts, we still can make finals. The reality of our situation is that we are still an inexperienced side and our winning culture still needs to be nurtured and developed before we can be considered a serious side. However, all it takes is one win for everything to click and I do believe that win will come this season. When it comes, it may be just enough time for us to string some games together and make finals, and it may be too late but will set us up well for a strong chance in 2018. We’re steering in the right direction and this will be the team and Goody will be the coach to break our premiership drought. NB: it will be the team once we have added either May or Lever to our back-line
