  1. if watts maintains his form for the remainder of the year, then he's a lock for 2017's leadership group. jones (c) and viney (vc) for next two years, then viney to take over, with gawn/watts/t-mac (if he gets his act together) as the vc.
  2. apart from winning the actual game yesterday (and everything around the hawks, what that means, etc) the key thing that i was so excited about is that the win would've impressed other players around the league.. the more games like that, the sooner we become a 'destination club'....if we aren't already. who wouldn't love running out on a sunny mcg most weeks?! getting to join the other young fellas for a few years of learning before pushing for a flag in a couple years. everything is set up for success. could not be more excited. imagine if that had been the last game of the year!! we would've been going nuts over the off-season! haha, so stoked.
  3. super risky decision by the selection panel.. of course i can't wait to see sam debut, but cannot help but feel he'd be better off kicking the door down, not having one really good game against an average vfl team. he hasn't done enough at vfl level yet. this is surely just a selection to help him see what he needs to work on over the warmer months.. i reckon he'll only have one game for the dees by the end of the year. fingers crossed no injuries and he clunks a few! i'll be yelling his name out in any event.
  4. completely agree. good points deeko. not sure why everyone is suddenly pushing for weed, hulett has been a more imposing figure for the past month or two.. fickle. funny..ha.
  5. are you implying Prestia is that kind of 'superstar'?? he wouldn't even be the best player in a team sitting outside the 8! he's very good, no where near great though.. not sure why you started this avenue of discussion (i.e. the dees not having a chance to lure him from GC)..
  6. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2016-06-13/team-song-demons great to see all the talent standing on the outside of the team circle in this clip, enviously looking on. it wasn't a pretty game at times, but we're definitely building something here. go dees!
  7. surely that's something that the club/misson should have referred to in the injury update? pneumonia is pretty serious! wow..
  8. good question beelzebub.. i reckon the club will definitely attempt to package whatever picks we end up with and a few unwanted players (with some hint of currency) to source the kinda players that we're needing... but you never know. i don't think any of us expected what went on last draft period. i doubt it'll be boring. just hope we at least double our current wins to attract other mature bodies...
  9. the amount of time that he's getting on the ground (yes, i am aware players need to build experience, but jayzus christ he is bad) definitely highlights the lack of depth and NEED for a solid experienced defender come trade period.. although we need outside speed and a few more mid's, surely a good defender is right near the top of our priorities.. and the sooner the coaches recognise that this new system isn't and hasn't worked the better! i love the attacking style, but don't care for these easy goals over the top and through the guts..
  10. as a social worker myself, mixing SW values and footy can only be a good thing. glad to hear it was so well received by the community.
  11. petracca and trengove did a similar thing last year didn't they?.. awesome initiative by the club. the least they could do. glad that the dees have such good ties with NT.
  12. one of my faves... stoked. like someone said above, he just looks real happy being a dee - way more so than when he was at carlton. good on him. hopefully he gets a flag or two during his time in the red and blue!
  13. ughhh. really?! a game of footy is a game of footy. i've just started playing in a pub footy league in melbourne and the teams are uni-sex.. big crowds, beers and dogs running out on to the pitch. at the end of the day, isn't it fun watching a ball getting kicked around?
  14. he played so well yesterday.. tried his heart out. definitely hope he sticks around for the dees looming success
  15. about to head in on the train.. hip flask weather. looking forward to seeing petracca on the g. dees by 14.
  16. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2016-05-04/indigenous-jumper-revealed awesome too that the new design focuses on the yarra area, wurundjeri tribe and the kulin nations that surround the city. from memory the last design was based on themes from the northern territory, which was cool, but not exactly relevant to "melbourne".
  17. really like it. quite liked the old one too though.. definitely wish the "ahg" wasn't on it.
  18. as much as i think petracca should have at least another week at casey, the fact that i have a mate visiting from the gold coast (and sweet seats for the game) means that i won't exactly be "sad" should he be named..
  19. FFS jnrmac are you seriously suggesting that Luke Beveridge got the Dogs to the finals last year based off less than a year's worth or work??! Of course the club was building prior to the sacking of McCartney... It is irrelevant if pundits thought they would come last in 2015 due to their upheavals, so there's no point in providing a ladder showing that.. The Dogs had a much better list than they were given credit for and had recruited well over the preceding years. Eventually the tide was going to turn, just as it has for the Dees. Ignoring the good development work that McCartney put in prior to his sacking is ludicrous. Their success was built on McCartney's development and then the implementation of Beveridge's new game plan (and the improvement of a few of their youngsters).
  20. daisy is super nice (and talented). i got to have a kick with her, viney & hogan at the logo launch in yarra park last year. she kicked them low and hard. definitely an important card in melbourne's pack moving forward..
  21. this was one of my favourite games last year... jesse killed it and i think brayshaw kicked his first goal?.. looking forward to heading along to the G with a mate on sunday.
  22. screw picks! 2 x A graders are needed if he leaves! we know that he will be a star. draftees are unreliable and take time. i can't believe that i'm even entertaining the thought that he will leave... i don't think it will happen and i sure as hell don't want to see it happen. he's a good guy and has unlimited potential. for anyone suggesting that he's just here to get the big bucks, that is a real cynical way to look at the situation. he's been in melbourne for years now and has mates here and they are hopefully growing together. if we are still in our quagmire in a few years he'll go, but we should be sweet for the moment.
  23. the bench looks unbalanced for mine.. wagner and hunt? both inexperienced and both play similar positions. que? would've much preferred neal-bullen be included. his form has been pretty impressive and he offers energy and potentially a goal or two.. probably a few weeks early for hunt i think.. not sure why they selected him in such a vital game? it just doesn't make sense that he's getting a debut off mediocre NAB games and then one good game against a poor VFL team.. so much for standards. i would've preferred that they waited until he was banging the door down! i'm gonna be [censored] if we lose to the pies and roos says that they mucked up the team selection again and relied too heavily on youth..
  24. i still don't get the few people on here pushing for weideman! he's a kid still.. he's only played a few games at casey and hasn't dominated there yet. how do you expect him to go at afl level?? there's no rush with key position players (as has been previously said on here). just relax and and wait until AT LEAST mid season. until then, #pedomyth can play the role given to him and help out gawn too.
