  1. TO THE end, the James Hird legend grows. The 34-year-old last night won the Crichton Medal after being judged Essendon's best-and-fairest player for the fifth time. James Hird's sublime performance in his final game, the Round 22 loss to the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco, was what secured his fifth Crichton Medal. Picture: Tim Carrafa It was a popular and emotional win in front of 1000 fans and gave Hird yet another send-off in what has been a remarkable final season. Hird secured victory with votes in his final game at Subiaco against West Coast in Round 22. He finished with 251 votes, despite missing five games with a calf injury. Hird accepted his medal last night on stage at the Crown Palladium to a standing ovation. "Sentiment got in the way in the last round and got me over the line," Hird said. He recalled last year and his injury problems and thanked former coach Kevin Sheedy, wife Tania, captain Matthew Lloyd and fitness chief John Quinn for convincing him to play on. "I'm so glad I did because I lived out everything I wanted to live out," Hird said. "This year, in some ways, has been my most enjoyable." He told of letters he received from teammates on the eve of his last game and how he cried when he read them. "Thank you, I'll never, ever forget this club," Hird said. "I'd have no hesitation, as my mother and father did when they dropped me off 17 years ago, I'd have no hesitation dropping my two boys off if they are good enough." Hird scored 19 and 26 in the last two games to beat All-Australian defender Dustin Fletcher by two votes. Third place was shared by onballer Mark McVeigh and forward Scott Lucas on 223 votes. Hird's victory was close to being upstaged by the naming of Adam Ramanauskas as the club's most courageous player. Ramanauskas returned from two operations to remove tumors in his shoulder-neck area and played five senior games, his first against Geelong in Round 14. New coach Matthew Knights announced last night that Ramanauskas and Heath Hocking would both be promoted from the rookie list in 2008. First-year speedster Alwyn Davey won the rising star award, despite missing most of the second half of the season with a broken arm. Behind McVeigh and Lucas in the best-and-fairest were Adam McPhee (220 votes), Brent Stanton (197), skipper Matthew Lloyd (192), Damien Peverill (183), Andrew Welsh (153) and Jobe Watson (141). Young defender Kepler Bradley won the best-and-fairest award for the Bendigo Bombers, Essendon's feeder team in the VFL. And the Daniher name looks set to return to Windy Hill with 18-year-old Darcy Daniher, the son of Essendon and Sydney star Anthony Daniher, nominating Essendon as his club of choice under the new father-son rule. Veteran utility Mark Bolton is the latest Bomber to retire, after 124 games in 11 years. Daniher was among the best players for the Calder Cannons in their Grand Final day victory over the Murray Bushrangers. 3. meesen is very keen to come to us.. has already agreed to a contract
  4. Isn't our development coach Mark Williams from sandy??
  5. i think these players are worth looking at during trade week and so on. i think we also have the right player tp offer aswell Damon White 194cm 95kg a tall forward who is seeking a trade and i for one rate him highly. is known to kick big bag of goals and i think should be looked at for a replacement for david neitz. only 24 years old John Meesen. will be a dee next year. ruckman 200cm 95kg who was a top 10 pick in the 2004 draft. could be handy. Ryley Dunn. 186cm 88kg. Was a big debate weather we were gonna take him or brock mclean with pick 5, but we got the better of it. injurys have hurt his career so far and i believe with the rumours in perth that he wants to come home to VIC. i have seen him play plenty of times in under 18 with the murray bushrangers and i was a bit disappointed we didn't get him but i am happy now. a dual under 18 all australian player who is tough as guts, quick, skillfull and strong. in the brock mclean mould but quicker! i hope we target him coz he is one amazing player when fully fit!! a must get! Kane Tenace. 183cm 85kg who is very very quick clocking around 10 seconds in the 100m. we were highly critised for not taking him but instead we chose brocky. again we got the better of it. his kicking is a bit erratic at times but can improve. would add alot of pace ito our midfield and let me tell you he knows how to use it. more of an athlete then football player. was impressive in his first two season but dropped off afterwards. a mate of Ryley Dunn Ed Lower. 186cm 86kg. he is tough as they come but i think his impressive game against power in the finals might just the roos of what a good player who is gonna be. worth a look. Luke McGuane 190 cm 84 kg. impressive down back for the tigers this year who is quick, versitile and a strong mark. could be worth a look but with young chip coming through i think he is better off being at tigerland. worth a look though Dean Polo 186 cm 80 kg very impressive debut with 28 possesions and 3 goals. has a bit of x factor in him who i think the dees should seriously look at! skillfull, quick and versitile who i think wud slot straight into our side. played only 8 games this year and struggled at times to break into the side and also battled injurys. must be looked at! James Gwilt 188 cm 95 kg A tough half back flanker who hasn't cemented a good spot into the saints line up. was a smokey in the 2004 draft and i rate him highly. probably one of those players that need a fresh start to get his career back on track ala david rodan. worth a look Justin Sweeney 186 cm 84 kg In the Russell Robertson mould who can kick bags of goals and is quick on the lead. very sticky hands and a good accurate kick. worth a look Amon Buchanan 179 cm 84 kg Rumours have sprang that he was very shitty he didn't get a call up against the pies in the elimination final and now wants to come home. tough, built strongly, very quick! and nice accurate skills. must be looked at big time! hopefully paul williams could sneak over and have a few words to him. Jaymie Graham 195 cm 98 kg A defender who injurys and game time took there toll this year after been impressive all last year. battles hard and is worth a look. can go forward and kick goals aswell so a bit of versitile in him would have clubs looking at him. worth a look Jed Adcock 184cm 84kg Wants out and melbourne must seriously look at this guy!! racked up 455 disposals this year and playing accross half back and doing tagging jobs. has nice skills and is very hard at it. not sure wats his pace like but i have been impressive everytime i see him. Please look at him melbourne! Justin Sherman 183 cm 87 kg Started his career with a bang until this year when he got dropped several times. a quick hard at it midfielder forward who is devastating when he is on song! represented australia last year and finished runners up in the Best and Fairest last year. is a victorian boy so would help our cause aswell. can kick goals aswell, so is very versitile. Should be looked at! Ryan Murphy 192 cm 90 kg A player that was set to take the AFL by storm but went downhill this year. can kick big bags of goals and kicked 5 against carlton last year, 4 against the bombers and 3 against the roos. has a big leap and strong hands and is quite quick on the lead. kicked 8 goals in one of the WAFL games this year. A vic boy aswell who should be well looked at. i hope everyone enjoyed this as it took me ages to reserch every player lol. i think these players should be seriously looked at and i think all are looking at new homes.

  10. Dylan Howard has reportedly discovered, through his association with Dr. Heinz Deissler, that Brock McLean actually sustained a career-threatening injury (fracture scaphoid) in the dust-up at Munich. This is the same injury that ended Gerard Healy's career. Advice from those medicos that assessed Steve Johnson's ankles, apparently advised "just bathe it in the Rhine, and start some strength work on it". just wat i got from ology! jeez plz i hope this isn't true!!

  15. found this on ology by a poster by the name of ox_5_demons Hey all, I emailed this to the club earlier today. Let me know ya thoughts. I used a few comments from the passionate people on here and demonland throughout, so thanks for those. Dear Dean, Steve and Paul, I am writing to you in regards to the Chris Judd issue. I know you will get plenty of emails regarding this, but please take a moment to read this, and reply if you have a chance. It is not in relation to Chris not accepting the MelbourneFC as his preferred new home, but more so the press release regarding the decision. Steve, why did you feel the need to mention that we should feel proud to have played against the big boys, but lost. I should be accepting it, because that is Melbourne. But I cant. To me, that smacks of saying that we dont belong. That culture needs to be changed. Come out and take offence to his petty excuse. If he had rejected Collingw&%$ they would be highly offended and telling the world. You do the same. More than ever, the Melbourne Football Club are not being taken seriously by the wider football public. Dean, Melbourne need to use this enormous slap in the face as motivation. Judd can still be the catalyst for a monumental shift in the direction of this club, but for completely different reasons to the ones we were hoping for last week. This is a chance to say stand up for ourselves and tell the football world that we will no longer accept condescension and downright disrespect. When we come up to play against Chris Judd, I hope you make the players feel as bad as the supporters do because of his excuse of poor training facilities. He is telling our players, our great players, such as Neita, Brock and Jonesy, that they are below his level, because they dont lift shiny weights, or they cant look at themselves in the mirror when they do so. I hope you instruct the players to make the game for Chris Judd four quarters of hell. Play like Demons. Smack him into the turf on every occassion, make him feel it. Make him feel what shiny weights really do for you. Nothing more than old weights. Get them to remind him that even though he may be training on greener grass, or newer exercise bikes, that nothing can teach a man to be tough, nothing except whats inside of a man. I want you to remind the players before the game of the great quote from Ali. "Champions are not made in the gym, but are made from something deep inside them... a dream... a vision... a desire". Hopefully Neita or Belly can whisper that in his ear as they grind him into the dirt after another ferocious tackle. Take our pick 4 and 21, and along with Craig Cameron, lets get our own Chris Judd. Paul, Congratulations on your effort to lure the man we thought would be the saviour to the club. But dont worry, we dont need a Chris Judd to love the MFC. However, I urge you to go the big business men that were set up to lure him, and urge them to dip their hands into their pockets and help out the MFC. We as supporters do not hear of it enough. We know they exist, but we never hear how much they care. I hope you all read this, and I would love to hear from all of you. It would show that the club does care about a loyal members point of view. Bring on 2008, and lets make it the year of the DEMON!
