  1. Not sure I disagreed with any of the sentiments you expressed (except the Maynard incident & we can agree to disagree) My position is “in my opinion” I felt the incident should have been graded on the lower side..meriting a fine. In no way do I disagree with the new rulings but I am very happy the club is challenging the “penalty” of the ruling.

Would you say the same about those criticising Maynard? After all, he was attempting to smother the ball. Yes, I think he got off far too easy, but his action did bring about rule changes which unfortunately have seen Kossie receive a suspension.

I think that if the player chooses to launch himself with both feet off the ground and the smother is successful without making contact with the opponent’s head, then fair enough…but if the player mis-times the smother and in bracing himself, makes contact with the head, then he’s in trouble.

I just find it unbelievable to be comparing Kozzy with the action of Maynard. About the only similar thing is the word “smother”. There was a stat (I think the Richmond game where it was 10 smothers ! & they were lauding this ) in nearly every case where you attempt to smother the ball ..your feet leave the ground. His intention was to smother the ball & it absolutely should be graded low impact .

  3. Firstly absolutely love the podcast & the effort you all put in. I’m more the “Binman” type of supporter but thoroughly enjoy Andy’s MFCSS & George’s insights & articulations. My observations on both games in Adelaide .. we go into PA game with best “available “ team & found a way to win even though we weren’t at our optimum. I find these wins so satisfying because I know our best is yet to come. We hit the 2nd game with some sore & tired bodies against a fired up crowd & opponent. Again we find a way to win ..I felt we needed a buffer at 3/4 time because we would tire in the last. Adelaide may not have the quality but they bought in six new young sets of legs & we all know they are Burgess fit. I don’t echo the sentiments of bad kicking  ..there were reasons ..BBB would never have been pencilled in for that much footy but he still put his body in for a target. Again what I’ve loved about these wins is the ways we’ve found to win. Will hold us in such good stead & give us so much to draw on & the season unfolds ..(now I’m off to do the 5 star review …finally)

What did we think of JVR's game? Much more time in ruck, it's not ideal for a youngster but he competes hard and it does give him a chance to get into the game. Thoughts?

I agree with Goody’s assessment. He loves the ruck & it gets him in and around the game. I get that he’s young but he’s solidly built and an aggressive type of player. He doesn’t spend a lot of time in the ruck so I’m happy with this solution to our ruck issues at the moment.

For sure ... however nothing is as horrifying as the spectre of a C'wood 'dynasty' ... that is looking like a fairytale now ... thank god! 🙏😁

Good effort by the Saints tonight and the Pies are looking very much like a mid table plodder side at the moment 😃

They won so many games by single digits last year. Where does their improvement come from this season ..old players get older & with such a close competition you only have to be a 1% off & you lose. They are def more than a 1% off. For all those posters that moan about Goodie’s press conferences…do yourself a favour & listen to “the Priest”… at the moment. Not really sure how to describe them 🤔

A glorious afternoon at the MCG by all accounts. I think our president should come out and encourage more of our fans to come along and make some noise.

It is was pretty loud which was great but I was also at the Collingwood match & the level of noise (especially in the early part of the game) is at a whole new level. You can see how the umps get sucked in . I believe that even though the Swans absolutely crushed them ..I’m pretty sure the Pies won the free kick count .

Langdon might not stand out like his 21-22 seasons but I believe he’s started ok this year. He was clean today.
He’s still running more than everyone, he’s linking up well, just with less fanfare. He’s still very important to us.

I also heard Bevo say that he didn’t think any of the wingers for both teams had a big impact in the game today which I agree with. I also agree with all you said re Langers.

    Give me a spell.

    I didn't name names.

And I wasnt rude and I didn't take any pot shots.

Unless you call the truth a pot shot.

And frankly I'm heartily sick of posters spewing vitriol against my club after a loss.

And then going silent after an impressive win.

If you are gonna call out the club - repeatedly- after a loss then show some spine and put your hand up you might have got it wrong.

It's the opposite of fair weather supporters.

Well said …(even though it will fall on deaf ears) today at the G was like watching a game from dare I say it..2021. Often with our wins over the last couple of seasons they weren’t satisfying or exhilarating..today was. As our new game plan becomes more entrenched & connections are built with new players in new positions…we will play better. There will be hiccups along the way but I loved what I saw. I was so proud of our supporters who gave Clarry a standing ovation…we’re back in the 8 !!

  9. Fantasy ..get offered a free flight to Syd to stay with family member. No ticket to game but go along to the open session to see players. Find out can get reciprocal rights with MCC membership but have to queue from 5pm & hope for the best . Half  an hour ago get call from a players parents who can’t make the game and want to know if a ticket is required. Reality.. will now be sitting with the players families tomorrow night. How envious am I but super excited for another Dees supporter to be there

I am totally fed up with the way the so-called Footy Press has solely concentrated on the so-called shenanigans at Melbourne. [censored], they've lost 4 finals in a row, there's the punch up between may and Melk the year or so before, there's the Smith 'unique' fiasco, and there's the Clarrie saga, and some of them even hint at 'deeper troubles'.

I don't recall this much attention to Essendon when all drug hell broke loose, the various shall we say 'dubious' behaviors at the E Coli Wobbler Protected species, and oh, no, there was no twubble toil and trouble at Richmond, Dusty who?, nor have I recalled the mighty ex North Oracle, aptly called The King, mention how any turmoils were handled in his time at a turmoil ridden club, and we won't talk about Lamumba, nor have I hear or read anything about how Geelong, anothery in the line of AFL protected Species, didn't even make the friggggin finals a year after a Flag. Jesu Christe the Western Media is already enough warped in mass manipulation to allow the so-called Footy Pontius Pilates to just totally and constantly just focus on one team. As Leigh Montagna pointed out to Mister Huddo and Pontius King - funny how he wanted to dude to get ten weeks after assaulting a Norf player, where was his voice when Brayshaw was put kaput? - that this kind of 'turmoil' most often unites teams rather than fragments them.

Agreed ..every time they mention the club or a player they highlight every incident over the years. Elijah Hollands now at Carlton is missing the first 2 weeks for an AFL suspension for being caught with coke at the casino in QLD. Never mentioned !!

  11. I was out last night & one of the speakers was Brad Scott. Of course the first question Caro asks him was about culture at clubs  & cited MFC & all our “off field dramas”. He answered it very well saying culture is literally a day by day thing. You work on it every day ..he has some extremely talented players who don’t necessarily embody the right “culture” so they have to work on it. He then said he would never criticise Melb & he heard Max Gawn (who he said is an icon incredibly talented..exceptional etc) & Max said “Melb has a great culture (paraphrasing). He then left it at that. That kept Caro quiet. The other point he made very clearly is that unless you are inside the club no one has really any idea what is happening. So my long winded point is ..we have to trust everybody around Clarry to make the right decisions. We simply don’t know all the facts & that is fine by me.

    With you on this feeling.

This Forum is providing some level of catharsis to enable us to vent, but I have noted on here other aspects to feel better. Such as the Duncan Wright incident and what I believe will be , or now is, Maynard's legacy for life. Thug.  Where's Rod grinter when we need him.

I love the Dees still, but hate about everyone else associated with the game in positions to have a microphone and opinions, top of the list being the AFL funnily enough for denial of justice to Gus.

Collingwood fans and behaviour after the Act is on another level altogether for hatred however which is why I will boycott KB this season, being a Pies home game.

This is the  trouble ..we boycott the game ..what does that achieve. We need to support & cheer for our team ..staying at home helps Collingwood..we don’t need to be a Collingwood type of supporter but surely you can be a loud & proud Dees supporter!!

Was discussing with workmates how even the competition is this year.

We looked at every team and said 16 sides could make the 8, we only had North and WC as definate outs.

So 8 of those team have to miss out. Every team in the AFL have the same goal, there is only 1 premier, pretty brutal really.

Im in the 5-10 range, not happy with our forward structure, I absolutely HATE the constant bomb it in 50, cannot believe how many times we do it and never learn. 2 or 3 players going up in the same pack. Nobody staying down for crumbs. How can Goodwin, Choco, Yze etc not see this and try to correct it? They are meant to be the best coaches in the land. Maybe Im looking at it too simplistically.

Yes we JUST lost 2 finals, but the opposition want to improve just as much as us.

Going in with low expectations, happy to be proven wrong and we win every game, just pretty blah hearing Goody saying "the learnings" every week.

Yze ?? You obviously follow the team closely 🧐

Haven't spent much time on Demonland over the offseason, or at all in the big scheme of things. I came back here the other day to see what others thought of a few things I noticed watching the scratch match against Richmond. Good Lord people, what's happened to us?

By "Us" I mean Demon supporters as a whole, on every platform. I truly believe it's never been this bad. The infighting, gossip, completely unfounded rumours and trash talk is completely ruining what used to be a few different places to dribble a bit of [censored] about the footy no matter the result. Yes we whinged, moaned and lamented but it was fairly good natured (for the most part) and the team still had our full backing.

Offseason was rough, agreed? It's been a pile on of monumental proportions. Coming at the club from every angle. It's been hard to listen to. From the 24/7 media cycle blaring it into our skulls to opposition supporters gleefully rubbing it in our faces. Well, I'm sorry but it's not going away soon, get used to it. The more we react the louder they become. Why do you think the club doesn't say much? Anything they say is twisted and turned and dissected on radio shows endlessly. It's easier to just say nothing.

We are already arguing about how [censored] the 2024 season is going to be! WTF!? WE HAVEN'T PLAYED A GAME YET! Guess what? We are going to lose games. Unfortunately that is just the reality. We will lose games. Some honourable losses but also some horrible losses to teams that have no right to play as good as they do against us. But, we will win some as well. The boys will dig deep and get us across the line in spectacular fashion and make us leap out of our chairs and scream with joy. There will be horrible wins as well, just scraping across the line against someone that we were all confident we could relax for. That's footy. Highs and lows, the agony and ecstasy of sport in general.

We achieve nothing by fighting amongst ourselves. By all means, let's have constructive debate over how we can make the team better, who belongs where on the field, who's played well or not. Let's not get too carried away with the off field stuff. That's for the club and players to worry about. We are supporters, our job is to support. We cannot do that when we are spending our time endlessly and viciously arguing over things we cannot control.

Let's unite, support our boys (and girls), let them know that we are still here, despite all the outside noise.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Had an hour up my sleeve before the boss came in. Probably just screaming into the void.

I love you all. I love this team. C'mon Dee's.

This post deserves a comment . Absolutely fantastic you have articulated it so well . Whether we play good ..bad or just plain ugly ..it is OUR team & I LOVE it !

That’s a fair point - Top 4 in the past 3 seasons is some achievement. I guess I was highlighting the fact I haven’t been convinced over the past couple of years - I get that the ladder doesn’t lie - but I don’t quite believe this team at the moment.

    So I guess you’ll only

be convinced if we finish top at the end of the season & then go onto win the flag 🤔

I thought it was great to hear him speak the truth.

The only thing I'd disagree with is the "there's always next year" quote.

That will not be the case for some of our older players and we're in a special competitive space right now that won't last too much longer.

There is only this year. Grab it.

Think you’ve taken that remark out of context. I read it as ..yes we didn’t win but there is always next year ..meaning we get another opportunity..it’s not like we lost & there’s no tomorrow. I also gleaned from that podcast that yes.. the players absolutely know what is being said about the team & thankfully have a far more positive attitude than a lot of our posters .

Glad this thread is now finally back on track, after wandering through the fuchsias, tulips and broken glass along memory lane.

    From dee-railment to re-arailment.

What excites most is there will some new blood in the team, with young Caleb & Co clamping at the bit. Could be some real beauties out there with the beginnings of the changing of the guard.

Absolutely agree. There’s a great podcast ..Dyl & friends where he speaks to Petracca. Fantastic listen & a good insight into his feelings on our”forward's” & also the team ..early exit from finals etc. Some of our more “pessimistic “ supporters would do well to listen !

Erhh why was he unfit to start with

Was an ongoing  issue at Adelaide

Why would he be any different with us?I hope he is improving but smacks of poor attitude to me sorry to say

Pretty much every new player we have bought into our club (not the young draftees) have said our training standards & fitness are elite. Even Grundy alluded to it so whilst they might be fit.. they’re not “Melbourne “ fit.

Thanks rjay. The info on not using the Sub ( Schache ) is not I believe made up. It’s been floated in circles widely and frankly it’s believable knowing how stubborn Simon has been on making moves.  If i you agree thst you would have changed Tommy then things are done for a reason to try and win.

I have played sport at Club level and captained cricket teams. Making bowling changes is a top priority and it’s just the same as this. No change attempted you never know but you inside I know it’s got to be done in an attempt  to change things up and make life more difficult to the opposition.

Growing up as a parent if your child did not like something the best to one yo do was look at making a change u to I improve matters. That's all this is a perfectly easy move to help the team and look at it as a great opportunity to improve matters on the forward line.

As for WCW being sick of this topic clearly she doesn’t understand sport ( footy in this case) and surprisingly rude enough to say she is sick of the matter and then denigrate Josh Schache as a player is a very disappointing event.

In addition she does not realise her posts on many occasions on some topics are extremely long and boring lecturing others as she believes she has divine right to. This has to be said on this occasion.

As you know WCW no one makes you read other people’s posts if you don’t want to.

This is my  last post on this matter but I have a feeling it may not be the last by a D/Ler.

Some of us always like the last word!!!

    Go Dees in 2024.

Not sure of the correlation between club sport or chastising your child equates to AFL at the elite level and at the pointy

    end of the season 🤨

Well clearly Goody disagrees with you.

Goody didn’t even see him as replacement for a terribly performing Tom Mac.

2nd Melb preseason..you never know.. so let’s see how much he’s improved before we write him off. Lot of water /training etc has gone “under the bridge” since season 2023

No, seems like they were wanting to go down that path but Lycett chose not too.

That’s your opinion & taken into consideration he did retire …my opinion is that “ he wasn’t quite up to it”. Not sure that if there was so much “genuine”  interest by different clubs & us..he either didn’t get an offer or the club (s) knew his knees weren’t up to it. Hardly think we’d need another older player with dodgy knees.

    Strange comment..

No one is questioning Fullarton as the selection, the question was whether we had other options for that back up experienced ruckman which it's well known that we did in Scott Lycett.

Fullarton is more forward then ruck and that's been evident all along. If you go through training reports for instance, Will Verrall has dominated over him in the ruck duels in the match sims.

Is this the PA Scott Lycett whose 2023 season was wrecked with knee injuries forcing him to hang up his boots at the end of the season or  is there another one ?
