  1. I am really sorry to all those Casey lovers and those you call it home, but I would never go there to watch a footy game whoever is playing. It lacks soul, has comparatively poor facilities compared to the top clubs and is just so damn inconvenient from a travel perspective (for most). Feel sorry for the players and coaching staff having to make the journey there and back so often. Players, stiff and sore after training and playing and then getting in a car to travel home. Just a big disadvantage.
  2. I can understand the benefit of these events for kids and their parents but for mature adults without this raison d'être. Biff explain yourself? Walking distance from your abode or a crush on young footballers?
  3. sure we have some great games, the granny being a case in point. but for many of the home and away games we have to watch an unwatchable game of scrum rugby. it is killing the game. and the tagging of players around the ball where players are being blocked and checked by their opponent is a blight on the game, and should be penalized by the umps. actually I am not opposed to zones at least one with a line across the centre of the ground to ensure that teams have a minimum number of players in one half. it is an ugly spectacle to see all players in one half of ground with the other half completely empty.
  4. interesting yes, eccentric yes, diverse yes, perverse yes, off beat yes, sicko yes, cerebral....at times, enlightened....I will have to think about that...,,
  5. The talk of bans, moderators (how Orwellian is that), political correctness, fake news and Donald Trump has given me cause to rise from my slumber and re-engage with the world, in particular, this thread. You realise Biff that my posts or lack thereof are mood related. But Trump, Turnbull and Bernardi have got me going.
  6. The name Lavington is forever etched in my mind. I remember hearing the news on the radio. So depressing at the time, similar to the feeling one had at the MCG on that fateful day also against the Swans. Amazing that he came back to play at all. Not the same but still great to see him finish the game playing out the season. .
  7. Perhaps but that is the nature of all sports as we know. You need more than talent to make it. I think Viney is a good comparison. His major attribute is attitude and a fierce determination to succeed. I do find it hard to judge some of our young recruits during this period when the club was floundering and the words professionalism and development were not part of the clubs lexicon.
  8. Now that's like asking what books of fiction have you read or what reality TV programs have you watched. I know the likes of Biff and BBO may try to tell you otherwise but Picket I think the question is clearly in jest.
  9. Diametrically opposite view Redleg on AFL. However, I understand your view point, For me, it can depend on the sport. I retain a strong interest in Women's Olympic Sports. However, I am not very interested in Women's Road Cycling compared to the men. Cricket similarly. However, I suspect that if I had a daughter or daughters that were top sportswomen I would follow that sport with great interest. Perhaps attitudes can depend on the culture and history of a sport together with the marketing or lack of. Bullfighting comes to mind! However, the AFL women's comp has definitely got me interested as I think their skills are terrific. Also a women's comp just seems the right thing to do given their involvement in the sport particularly as spectators since the early games played in Yarra Park.
  10. Very good point OD, God is definitely not a supporter. But it is time to exorcise the evil spirits from that place.
  11. This is the year to put the Etihad ghost or devil to rest. Please let it be. Please God, please. Let this place be heaven and not hell. And I will be a believer once again.
  12. A useful reminder of his record. An exceptional player with a remarkable record. Much admired and liked in Adelaide. All Adelaide Crows supporters I have spoken to reckon Melbourne will do well under Goody.
  13. Not the only lazy player in a third rate Melbourne side. Excluding Jones, Viney and a couple of others. We had a lazy team.
  14. Reference to Trengove and his lack of speed has become repetitious. Lets give the guy a chance to show his stuff and determine if his attributes outweigh his apparent lack of speed. There are others that "lack a yard" so he is not alone. I hope the selectors give him a chance, however, he going to have to earn his spot.
  15. can we please wait until the season starts or mid season! please.
  16. A good list, as it includes some old names, and all were "excitement machines" in their own way. Even John Lord and Bob Johnson despite being slow, were clever and could pull down massive pack marks. Bluey Adams was an excitement machine that I still reckon was one of the fastest players of all time. Could bounce the ball 3 or 4 times without being caught. Brian Dixon was not an excitement machine but could turn a match because of possession count and ability to kick the ball in any contest. Tassie Johnson at his best was the toughest and best full back going around, and there was Donny Williams who was an excitement machine. Could run off half back like a Stawell Gift winner and take screamers over the pack and still have a smoke at 3/4 time. Barassi was in my view Mr Football and was the most dynamic footballer going around. No one beat Barassi in a contest. And Robbie was the most graceful and best wingman in the game. Nice to reminisce.
  17. great report. regarding petracca, you play as you train, so I hope that his lapses get eliminated and his intensity at training improves. ronald dale where are you?
  18. second that Old.
  19. Okay Biff, lets call it quits, your all over the shop.
  20. I once believed in The Importance of Being Ernest, however sadly, those days have long passed so that is why I visit this site in my idle moments which seem to last most of the day. Your erudite comments always bring me back to reality after reading the imaginative rambling of others.
  21. You should know Red that I have only one vice. One that is either distilled or bought across a cosy bar or inn.
  22. Never fail to disappoint Biffo, however like the skilled matadors I admired so much in a previous life, I will let the bull charge past my cloak of irony headlong into the picadors sword. Your itchy fingers do get the better of you sometimes and diminishes your intelligence and occasional wit.
  23. It would be an interesting social experiment to ban this thread. Even say, a freeze on the thread for a month. May cause an implosion of some iphones and lap taps around the country.
  24. Smartest young Melbourne footballer I have seen for some time. Just needs to protect his head. All going well he is going to be one of our great players.
  25. Ego and lack of insight are the key words.
