Who is Special Robert ? Special Robert has a special complex or disorder best off ignoring. Seek treatment Special Robert. The other Special folks on this thread who don't call themselves Special although they may think they are, are either on treatment, not on treatment or so far off the spectrum they defy diagnosis. Like other special folks in the community they exist because they have special people that accept them. But Special Robert the worst thing you can do is ingratiate yourself in the hope that you will be able to befriend them. They are very contrary and can turn on you in a second. Beware!

No disagreement Dee Dee, the facts speak for themselves. My comment had nothing to do with facts or the Hawks record of success.

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
hemingway replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
A fool who has made a lot of money tapping into the prejudices of some. For all the fools who think he is original, hilarious and on the money with his opinions, I suspect that the majority regard him as objectionable or a fool. They long ago stopped watching and listening. However, as Trump and the politics of division employed by so many politicians show, there is an audience for the Newman's of this world. It is easy for those without humility whose ego feeds the behaviour. It is also helps that they really don't give a toss what people think about their views or behaviour. All publicity is good publicity if it feeds their ego and bank balance. TV and media outlets don't care unless there is a public backlash that can impact the bottom line. In Vedic or Sanskrit literature, the world is in the age of Kali Yuga, the last stage or age that the world goes through before it ends. It is an age where personal and societal standards deteriorate and spiritual values are diminished in favour of the cult of individualism and materail cravings, Sam and Donald Trump fit perfectly in this age. That aside, I only hope we win a flag before the world ends and I am still in this materail body to witness it. -
Two of their favourite sons, past heroes, are gone and another on his way out. It will be interesting to see how Clarkson and the club handle the Hodge exit when it comes. The sands of time run out for all clubs and their players. That is the way. However, the Hawks view of their superiority and self promotion of "the family club" line has worn thin. Like all families, this is partly myth and it appears that "the family club" is now far from perfect. Perhaps it will become even dysfunctional as the year progresses. However, I suspect that the HFC spin doctors will drop the family club line.

Maybe, but perhaps you give the coaching staff to much credit. I am always amazed that despite the professionalism of the game, clubs and coaches still get it wrong in regard to people/player communication and management. Hopefully you are right, but it still seems surprising that he did not get a run. I would have had one of the younger players as the emergency and given Trengove at least half a game to give him some game time. Perhaps his cards are marked as depth only. However, I feel he will get his chance but he will have to grab it. I don't think selectors will be patient and allow him time to play himself into form.

Vince is an interesting one. The fact is that this year we need him to get a hell of a lot more possessions in the midfield and forward zone within kicking distance of goal.

Ever since the VFL era, grounds have been wider, longer, narrower, shorter etc etc, except there are fewer variations these days. However, just like the good old VFL days, successful teams must learn to win on all grounds, in all weather conditions. In the grand old days, the Dees could win on grounds the size of a school playground, in the mud, against teams with different game style and tactics, and despite crook umpiring. We overcame and made adjustments before the game and on the day. I want to forget that these differences result in a difference on the scoreboard. We need to win at the G hard and win interstate. Looking forward to the days when we can play away from the G and still expect to win.

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
hemingway replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
The reality check. I have always been uneasy about the Goodwin-EFC history irrespective of his explanation to the MFC prior to appointment. The appointment of senior coach is the most important leadership position in a footy club. As such, his track record should be exemplary both in terms of skills and competence for the job but also decision making and ethics. In any area, you take a risk if you deal with someone with a questionable background. And drugs in sport is just about the most important issue there is today. "Do you or don't you" involves principles and ethical considerations. The appointment can always be rationalized. Similar to contracting ex-EFC players. However, the appointment of the coach is even more important. The smoking gun. -

Agree with your last sentence. Preseason matches on hard grounds always worry me. A win will be great but not at the cost of any serious injury, particularly knees. -
He lacks speed no doubt but he has also had a long time out of the game which would not help his adjustment to the speed of the game at AFL level. He needs time to regain not only the speed of the game but also to restore his confidence levels. One of the problems with fringe players is that they are often not given enough consecutive games at AFL level to build their confidence. Getting a game or getting a few games and then being sent back to Casey does nothing for their confidence. That will only be worse this year with (hopefully) team improvement and increased competition for spots. However, it will make it more difficult for guys like Trengove to get a regular spot. If a fringe player doesn't play a blinder then Casey beckons. Just an OK game is not going to be good enough. Love Trengove but I am philosophical about his future.

given his injury history, i would be very conservative with kent and give him plenty of time.

I have always thought that an inform Garland added something to the side. However, an out of form Garland was at times a liability. I suspect that unless we have a rash of injuries, his chances are limited, and therefore it will be difficult for him to get games and gain confidence. He is very much a confidence player. Given Goodwin's game style and the changes that have occurred in our playing list, the new additions to our defensive zone, and the emphasis on hardness around the ball and outside spread, time may have passed him buy. However, he does add depth at least for 2017.

So sick of commentary around Jack Watts. All that I know is that we need him in the team playing as he did in 2016 or better.

I'm sure Chris is a really nice guy and a great raconteur, unfortunately, he is a motor mouth, and that was to our detriment a few years ago. Best heard in a public bar. Not the reflective type I'm afraid. Although he is not alone. Dwayne comes to mind.

Calling them journalists does a disservice to all genuine journalists. The greats of the past must turn in their graves. They are paid to write stories and have no concern about their sources or the accuracy of the information. They are inept and lazy. Just think about it. If they were good journos would they be footy scribes. Like seagulls scrabbling for a feed.

MATCH REPORT - THE LID IS BACK - LET'S KEEP IT ON
hemingway replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
For the sake of your health OD, keep the lid on. It's still only preseason and we have endured a lifetime of disappointments. At least wait until the Saints match! -
Welcome back Bitters, however, you are rapidly becoming our Dame Nellie Melba of this thread. Like an old burlesque or vaudeville performer that is addicted to the applause and wants to hear it again. However, you do add a little something to this thread and most of us do find you well......amusing. Lovable is a bit of a stretch. Perhaps the act is getting a little tired and needs freshening up? Floggings are a little passe these days. Perhaps a few new tricks to maintain the interest? Have a nice day inside the darkened hallways of the Manor. However, beware of your eyesight. Remember that if you open the door the light gets in !

Good point Macca. Looking back at the momentous final against North in the Northey years, I was reminded how many ordinary players or B graders we had. However, Northey was able to weld those players into a formidable team,

Are we better off with Tom in the team, the way he plays today, or out of the team ? i think we know the answer.
-
You cant help but think that there will be some disappointed and frustrated footballers playing at Casey.

Okay but only second practice match. Hopefully a taster for the season ahead. Let's maintain and improve our intensity and dominance in second half of season. No mid to late season burnt out please.
