TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 2
hemingway replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Stop taking yourself so seriously Saty. You need to have a bit of lightness of being. We all have opinions and enjoy a bit of fun, This site is about Demon fanatics indulging their love of the club, voicing their opinions and having a bit of fun. We love our club as much as you do. But your sarcasm is not warranted. -
Let me think about it Daisy. I would not want to besmirch Gertrude's reputation. She was a God and me a mire mortal and admirer.

Harmes for mine. Despite all else, I like his attack on the footy and opponent. -
I prefer wine, women and song over bananas daisy. And Gertrude Stein. Now i am thinking bananas!

No I agree with Mr Leg OD, time to reclaim this thread.
-
Yes true Uncle, I am drawn back to it, but that does not give the thread any credibility. I have long known of my own failings but perhaps you need a new angle, I suspect that only a few still visit this thread, I have an affection for you but its time to move on.
-
okay, it was bloody awful clint but there you go, opinion is just that.
-
My God, if there is one, this thread just keeps getting worse.
-
Collingwood have been awful all over the ground.

You have a short memory or are delusional

Any number of MFC games over the past 16 years.
-
Nicely argued.

Not sure about Robbie. He played inside and outside and ground coverage was huge. Moved in an arc from defence to attack. He literally bobbed up everywhere although it is true he was not always crumbling at the feet of the ruckman at centre bounce

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 2

The best games are always the ones where the supporter is not worrying about defeat but thinking of percentage. Where the refrain from the stands is "not more goals Demons" but "percentage Demons". -
Russel Howcroft on Dean Bailey Article
hemingway replied to Engorged Onion's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good summary tiers, we had a terrible list and I suspect that as a result, the greatest coach in history would have fared badly, including Roos and Goody. Off the field, there was not only no alignment between the kingmakers but some of those kingmakers were very divisive characters. Although in any footy club, the cracks appear when things are going badly on the field. Those same cracks can be covered over if the team is having success. The cracks are still there and are always ready to open up and swallow coaches, players and administrators when defeat becomes the norm. -
It's a great start to the season, and Goodwin has started well. However, its a long season and the side is going to face bigger tests than the Saints when it comes up against the powerhouse sides, Our performance against the top sides will be the measuring stick for our players, our coach, and our game plan. Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Russel Howcroft on Dean Bailey Article

Dean was a very dignified man of the highest personal standards. One does wonder what impact the stress and public humiliation surrounding his dismissal had on his illness. One of the worst times for the MFC, however, so much worse for Dean and his family. The family also behaved in a dignified manner during the course of his illness and after his death. There were no public recriminations or criticism of the MFC. Says more about the family than the MFC at the time. Dean deserved much better. -
i like your optimism BB, but there will be days when this happens over a long season. Happens to the best of them. Days of unbridled optimism and days of whatever happened.

A diminishing interest in this thread I suspect.

THE DROUGHT IS OVER by George on the Outer - POST MATCH DISCUSSION
hemingway replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Enjoy the moment Picket, life may be over tomorrow. Concern about what may happen only diminishes the joy of winning. -
Most of us love Bernie, but he has developed a track record and that is not good. He needs to be much more careful otherwise the penalties will keep coming.

THE DROUGHT IS OVER by George on the Outer - POST MATCH DISCUSSION
hemingway replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The weekend's result was a great team effort, with contributions from all. There are always going to be clangers or simple mistakes made over the game by players. What's changed? Even going back to the grand old days. some of Melbourne's great champions played poor games and made mistakes, were undisciplined or gave goals away. The attention to detail is greater than ever, the speed of the game keeps increasing, the tackling even more ferocious. In short, the game has become more demanding in every way. High level of skills is imperative but that does not stop simple mistakes being made during a game.. And the television and media focus highlights all play, good and bad. And supporters ever more demanding that players excel week in week out, without blemish. We demand perfection at times, when the demands of the game make it ever more difficult. It has become easy to be overly critical of players. We should focus on the team and not the individual player and be less critical of mistakes or individual short comings. We should focus on the positive rather than the negative. I think that is one of Goodwin's strengths and perhaps that of the current footy department. -
Disappointing not to see all the goals but for me top 3 were Hannan, Hannan, Jones.

Spot on OD.

Goodwin's 1st team compared to Roos' 1st team
hemingway replied to jnrmac's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes old Dee, we could happily retire or live in luxury for the rest of our single malt days. An obscene amount of money. but such is the way in this degraded society. However, without Roos we would be nowhere. His appointment was the essential foundation stone for the new footy department and the beginning of change. Sure there have been a lot of other reasons, but Roos appointment was a watershed moment. Just like Hogan's decision to remain at Melbourne, and, a little later, Jordyn Lewis coming across from the Hawks. Not only manifestly important but also symbolic of the change. And hopefully Goodwin will reap the benefits by adding his mark.
