  1. Last para is the guts of the issue. Let's just call it honesty or lack thereof. I don't blame Scully for going. It was not as if he just got a better offer. He was given an offer that was Huge. An offer to set himself up for life, injury or no injury. He was a young impressionable guy with older cunning men all around him, telling him what to do. Father and Sheedy to name the best or worst examples. And what the older wiser heads should have told young Tom is that it is always best to be upfront and honest with people. No one likes being lied to. However, when we are young, we are inexperienced in life, we take risks, and we are easily influenced by peers and our elders. We take advice from others which is sometimes wrong. we make wrong decisions based on this advice. It is not that Scully made the wrong decision, it is how he and his camp behaved and the perception created that he was not honest in his dealings.
  2. Good post. I think we are all aware that there is no great white hope. We have seen them come and go, some fail, come contribute something, some contribute a lot and win Brownlows. However, it rarely converts into Premiership glory. As the saying goes, to win flags you need a champion team not a team of champions. To win flags you need a blend of skills, leadership, experience, toughness, depth, and resilience to injuries. You also need individual and team expectation and confidence that you can win every game you play and be able to go all the way. You need exuberant youth and older wiser hardheads. We are building this blend of players. Like Vince, with Lewis we are adding a player with many of the elements we need most. He may be slowing up, he may be more prone to injury, but he brings a blend of skills, experience, leadership, toughness and winning know how. Sure he is not the White Knight but he walks into our team with a hell of a lot of what we don't have and what we need. As said before, like the re-signing of Hogan, the move of Lewis to Melbourne instils confidence in the coaching staff, players, supporters, and the footy world that we are once again a decent footy club and not one to be scorned. The addition of Lewis and Hibberd, assuming they have an injury free run are going to make a hell of a difference to winning football games.
  3. Confirmed on club website. The play of the day, and so far both gets the plays of the trade round.
  4. I agree but seriously..."they need to understand they did the wrong thing.... ". Are you kidding. Not about to happen now.
  5. Viney clearly a massive influence. God I'm glad he returned to the fold.
  6. Spot on, Hogans signing so important. Thank you Jesse. One thing builds on another.
  7. Interesting how perception about a footy club indeed any organisation can change very quickly. For better and for worse. Sometimes it's one major thing, sometimes an accumulation of a lot of things. In our case, it is evident that we have a good young list, have coaches and managers who are respected and are seen to make the right decisions, and our young talent signalling their confidence in the future by extending their contracts. Also, the re-signing of Hogan has influenced the perception that we are going places. Finally, the capability and personality of coaches and managers who influence those around them and impress those outside the club. Lots of small pieces that have accumulated and come together to change the perception of a once down and out footy club. As management texts tell us, perception is reality. It impacts individual and collective hope, belief, trust, confidence, and a sense that there is a better future. We can look forward with enthusiasm and not despair. We can once again be proud of our great club. However, let's not forget the past and where we have come from so that we maintain a sense of reality and balance and don't allow complacency, over confidence and arrogance to set in.
  8. Surreal, fancy anyone saying that about the MFC. Feeling proud!

  10. The sad thing was that at the time, Woey loved the club. However, for some reason after his Brownlow year, Woeys form and inability to make an impact was very noticeable and in my view was lucky to keep getting games. He was never endowed with pace. I think his first year at the Pies was okay but after that he was an ordinary player.
  11. Only if we begin winning games and are viewed as a successful club playing finals.
  12. Maple, if you are a worldly person, take an interest in all manner of things and generally have an interesting life, not much at all. Remember, it's only Aussie Rules, and, in the case of this thread, a world of fantasy, that eccentrics, ratbags, sickos and misfits inhabit. Did I mention someone? No just thinking of him.
  13. Oliver, slow leg speed but quick decision maker and quick hands. Gets the ball moving quickly.
  14. Still think his delisting was harsh. Also injury this year did not help him. He also had pace and outside run. Had no trouble getting the ball but let down by disposal. Delisting reflects the harsh reality of AFL. Disappointing for the player given his contribution over the last few seasons.
  15. Already surreal P-man. Fairdinkum unbelievable!
  16. In the context of our history, poor recruiting, reputation in the footy world this is huge. Really huge. Hated Lewis as a Hawk but well.....thats all going to change. Huge feather in the club cap if this comes off. Also Goodwin, whose popularity with the players is well known. After Clarkson he would be a breath of fresh air for Lewis.
  17. And we hired Goodwin, contracted Melksham and are trying to contract Hibberd.
  18. Happy to be ignored, perfectfully normal when your dead.
  19. My gosh Red, I will be forced to change my ways or not look at this thread. Big call from Uncle Ernie. Remember that night time and day time are all the same to me. So there is no time routine around my activities,
  20. Choke your manager might also be on Demonland
  21. Just wrapped how the club goes about its work but also that a player like Lewis would want to come to the Dee's. My god, how things have changed, no longer the poor pathetic lame duck club that people laugh, sneer or disparage. Feeling proud to be Melbourne.
