Merry xmas to everyone on the forum.
Enjoy this time with family, loved ones and take some time to relax and reflect on this year.
I can only hope in 2024 Clayton Oliver can turn his life around, for his sake.

I should have been a Carlton fan (everyone in Adelaide seemed to follow them at the time) but as a 9 year old in 1987 I started watching VFL and fell in love with Robert Flower and the Dees instantly. There was something about that run in the 87 that drew me to the club and have stuck on since. The Crows never appealed to me and Port are simply vermin.
Outside of the GF in 2021, the 87 finals and the merger game will always stand out.

If the Grundy trade worked out we would be laughing.

Have we come up with a nickname for him yet?
I do like the Kenny Powers connection.

Josh Kelly anyone?
Oliver wasn't expected to be a high pick either. GWS must have rated Curtin so high that they literally traded out to get away from him.
Windsor was best player available, If we went needs we would've gone a key forward or key back.
GWS would've taken Windsor after us. He was highly rated.

Are we needing to worry about this kid wanting to go home in a few years or will he hang around?
He is from Esperance which is 700km away from Perth.

Going by comparisons Shifter seems to rate him pretty highly:
Kevin Sheehan's top 40 prospects in the 2023 AFL Draft
Kynan Brown
State: Victoria Metro
State League Club: Oakleigh Chargers
Community Club: Blackburn
Date of Birth: 13/01/05
Height: 181cmLeft-footed inside midfielder who has quick hands, sharp vision and creates play through the middle of the ground with his creativity. Had a remarkably consistent year which included starring for Victoria Metro in the National Championships averaging 22.8 disposals at 80 percent efficiency as well as 4.5 clearances and 4.8 tackles to win their best and fairest award. Had similar numbers with the Oakleigh Chargers in the Coates Talent League including kicking five goals and having 25 disposals in a best on ground performance in the Wildcard Round win against the Northern Knights. Tested very well at the state Draft Combine in Victoria with his 6:12 on the 2km time trial and 3.04 seconds for the 20m sprint rounding off a productive season. Is eligible to be selected under the father-son rule as the son of former Melbourne utility Nathan D Brown, who played 146 games for the Demons.
Weapon: Footy IQ and ball-winning ability
AFL player comparison: Errol Gulden (Sydney Swans)- 1

Very happy to have two games in Adelaide, I hope the club will base themselves here so fans like me can stalk them at training.

Statement made, 1 point in first half 😱.
Come on girls, we’re still in this (just)
Worse performance that I can remember.

Hope the girls step in up tomorrow and make a statement.

Imagine if we drafted him 3 years ago, would be such a different player.
Def one of the best set shots to play for the MFC.
Keep well Jack.

Umpires make mistakes which I can tolerate but there is a bias in decision making depending on where the game is played, teams and players involved. This is the part that annoys me.

If you look at data the afl is the healthiest it’s ever been. If we get a bit more qualitative I think there is an under current that is steadily growing that would suggest the game is in a dangerous position.
personally I have stopped watching non Melbourne games because even trying to watch them as a relaxed impartial viewer I get [censored] off with the umpiring.
At no stage in my lifetime has there been less interest outside peoples own clubs than currently. The afl knows how loyal we are, but they need to be careful. I don’t know anyone who isn’t fed up with the league.
i do wonder how much gambling has had an effect since coming to dominate afl advertising. The nba refereeing issues in the past were closely linked to illegal gambling. I would think the adjudication of our game has been affected by the gambling dollar.
Gambling advertising should be banned as its becoming a cancer to TV viewers. I only watch Friday night games outside of Dees games and most games provide little inspiration to watch.
The quality of media commentary is also putrid compared to other sports.

I would say its combination of incompetence and arrogance. If the AFL was an international sport these cracks would be far more exposed.
