MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 13
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hear this a bit- is that a rule I'm unaware of or is it just 'the way it seems to go'? -
Still a high qulaity contributor. Next year, with a little more size and experience, I would love to see him use his evasive skills to gain himself enough time and space to kick the ball a bit more. He'll tear games apart from the center square.

Demons in National Women's League

Great news! Hopefully the league gets given good exposure with venues, dates, times, etc. Bring it on! -
The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

Oh God! I didn't even think of that - can see Barrett dusting off his comouflage gear and night-vision goggles as we speak! May be a good opportunity to take Demonland offline for site maintenance for a couple of weeks. -
Where does Chris Dawes fit in all this?
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
He played his role very well on Monday in what was one of his better games for the club. Runs very hard to provide an option or clear space for a team mate and works very hard off the ball to physically impose himself on the contest. There probably is no definitive answer in the Dawes v Pedo debate as they both have different strengths and weaknesses. In any given year both are going to play very good games and both are going to play poor games; but I cannot fault either of their endeavour. Despite this, unless there are injuries to other forwards, you can't play them both in the same side. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM

He's had a kid this year so hopefully he's looking at this as a year of Paternity Leave and enjoying every moment of it. -
Changes for next week v Swans
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Bombay Airconditioning's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would go in unchanged; a big win and no one really put in a great showing for Casey. Take Grimes, Harmes and ANB on the flight and if the rain is that torrential, perhaps sub one of them into the line-up for one of our tall defenders. -
The moment the ball is in his hands, his head shoots up and he looks for the gaps to exploit. He is a brave, attacking and very tough young man who is quickly becoming one of my favorites. His blonde hair and 'soft' looks hide a hardened competitor who uses his pace to attack, defend and pressure the opposition; he's a real find. There was a large chorus calling for him to be delisted last year, but once again, this football department has stuck fast and are developing a real weapon for us.
-
We need to take some of the sting out of the game while they have the momentum.
-
Better sign him up then!
-
Look at the strut on him!

I was more referring to stkilda' rebound after last weeks smashing.
-
Further proof (if it was actually needed) that young teams are unpredictable and inconsistent.

How many wins will we end up with in 2016
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to junk's topic in Melbourne Demons
North finished in 8th place last year and made it through to the Preliminary Final; currently top of the ladder. I'm sure that the Bulldogs (6) and Crows (7) also got a lot more out of their finals last year than false hope - they're both playing great football this year. Personally, I'd take playing finals football over finishing 9-18th and putting my feet up through September. -

I was expecting / hoping for ten wins at the start of the season and that hasn't changed. I don't think even 12 wins will get you 8th spot this year. -

It's mostly fun and games and guess-work for the media at this stage. However I do take some heart from the fact that if anyone would be parochially cheering for Hogan to come home, it'd be Gossage. -
It really couldn't be any simpler; the coaches are asking players to undertake certain roles and play to a particular structure. O'Mac, when he's in the team is doing what the coaches are asking him to do - so he stays. Others, are not- so they go.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Grimes play this weekend too.

As a Dees fan living overseas, I always like reading about how other people, far from home experience the matches. This is one match I'm really sad to miss.

Agreed - it will hopefully come with experience. Though he's been on the list for a few years, he's played very few games - even at VFL level. A degree of this needs to also be his teammates finding him; he's a guy I'd wanna get the ball to off half back because his pace opens up either the opposite wing with a kick or the corridor with his pace. Loved that tackle on the weekend.

That photo of Trac hugging Trengove got me... There's also a bit of poetry in him returning against Hawthorn, the team he debuted against Round one 2010.

Exactly... I can only cling to the idea that the team is greater than the sum of its parts. We have enough talent in there to play some quality football, when we play it right. A win this weekend would be on par with our effort in Geelong last year, where we fielded a very under-strength team.
-
A lot of people on here are talking about the Hawthorn team 'on paper'; they are however, playing some pretty putrid football at the moment. The last quarter against the Lions flattered the scoreline last week and they were luck/fortunate to scrape through for wins against the Adelaide, StKilda and the Bulldogs; they could easily be 4 and 6. This is not the Hawthorn team we have come to know and fear for the past 4 years. With that said, they are still a good team, but on their current form we have every chance of knocking them off if we bring our best football.

Love to hear Nev get a mention outside of the club- deserves every bit of it. On current form I'd expect Viney and Gawn to be in the squad. GAWN has been immense, but it'll take a few years of awesomeness to dislodge Goldy.
