  1. Sadly, that was probably the outlook for his 2017 as well.
  2. For those saying that he's done - are you suggesting that we cut a contracted player who's been injured..? That'd be pretty poor form from the club. That's the kind of treatment that can get a whole playing list offside.
  3. I believe he's contracted for next season... perhaps Lars and a lot of luck could see him make it back.
  4. We played plenty of matches last year with the Macs being our only genuine (194cm+) defenders. Teams generally don't like going too talk in defence when playing a team/zone defence- you want versatile 186-190cm types (Hibberd,Wagner, Smith, etc) To say that Smith playing round one would be a baptism of fire is going grossly overrating StKilda.
  5. Yes, I believe he is. So there's a spot available for an upgrade.
  6. You're right and that is a discussion worth having... this thread, not so much.
  7. Hitting our stride at the right time of year... hopefully it's not too late...
  8. This isn't something that is being discussed anywhere other than in threads started by insecure trolls.
  9. I have no doubt that radio presenters, journalists, etc. have reached out to him over the years. Though he had a short careers he had a big profile (original Footy Show panellist, etc). Every 90s football fan knows Allen Jakovich. He is simply someone who chooses to remain hidden.
  10. He has been one our best and most consistent players for three years. Truth be told, I am completely baffled by his omission. I haven't worried about a small forward cutting us up for years.
  11. Thanks for the reports. Any info in Jeffy, Kent and/or Kennedy? Need a small forward for Round one... Does his absence from the rehab group mean that Weid was also training with the main??
  12. Not to go all Ellen Lovejoy on this but... won't someone think of the children!? (and by that I mean the children's parents) I'm worried that the later the game is pushed the more that is going to reduce my post match celebrations with the kids. Is there a attendance or ratings problem that I am unaware of?? The only reason to move the starting time is so they can have fireworks at the end... that's a pretty ordinary reason IMHO.
  13. After his back injury in 2014 hopefully this is just a regular check that the medicos undertake. (that's what I've decided and I'm gonna stick to it)
  14. The depth in our list will hopefully bring good things for Casey this year.
  15. and touch considering Hibberd has played one match in 18 months and Kent would barely have touched a footy this year. This weekend's Casey game is a very, very important match for the MFC.
  16. A have a feeling we're more likely to see Kent before Jeffy. It's amazing, for all the talk of our deep running midfield, we're exposed very quickly for pace and class in the forward line.
  17. Agreed - if this is the way we stress about the Saints, imagine when we play GWS, Sydney, etc. That's not to say they're not a good team, they certainly look up and about, but the way they're being discuss on DL you'd think they'd be flag favorites. StKilda will have a lot of eyes on them this year, the classic hunter becoming the hunted - no one will take them lightly and that brings with it a new pressure of expectation that that young team has not had in recent years. A lot of this comes from the fact that we haven't beaten them in so long but much of it is from the way they seems to consistently lift when playing against us and we completely drop our bundle. In both matches last year we played terribly against them and, in the second match in particular, we had every chance of still pinching. Petracca missed a couple of sitters, Hogan's goal reversed when touched on the line, Brayshaw having some terrible turn-overs in the corridor. At our best, we can beat anyone... just a matter of which Melbourne and which StKilda turns up. From an MFC point of view, the VFL practice match this weekend is very, very important for us to hopefully get some players up.
  18. Sydney midfield provides consistent pressure to the ball carrier, not allowing them time and space for precision delivery. This is something we did in weeks 1 and 2 of the JLT, but failed to do against WCE. Tall forward-lines like StKilda's need good delivery; good defense starts in the midfield.
  19. I do see your point and, truth be told, I don't entirely disagree with you. My point of contention however is that the 25-30 that you refer to seems to be something that is based upon training form. For whatever reasons Trengove, Jetta, Pederson, etc. have spent the last month on the sidelines and have not had the opportunity to prove themselves during an actual match.
  20. Goodwin: Jack, we've named you as the emergency for the first two of our preseason matches so far and we're going to do it again this Thursday. The fact that you've been the emergency three times says that you're close to selection, but not close enough to be given any game time at all - the JLT cup is just too important to us. While you've had a good preseason it is essential that we get plenty of game time into Vince, Jones and Lewis; these fellas need to learn what it is to be a senior footballer. While there have been many people questioning your pace against AFL standard players... we've decided not to test this. While there have been some who question your best position... we've also decided not to test this. We have a plan A and will deal with plan B if the need should ever arise. By the way, you're suiting up for the Casey intra-club as soon as you step off the red-eye from Perth. Good chat.
  21. But you did notice... just now... when you posted about it. (There's also not a whole lot of emotion in wanting to observe the form of a broad range of players on our list before the season starts.)
  22. The degree to which Bailey could 'coach' will never be fully determined. One thing however that was evident at every club that he served was that the players played for him. To have that young, talented, but ultimately flawed list play the exciting football that we saw is testament to a coach who was able to get the best out of his players.
  23. The gripe I have comes down to the fact that Trengove was there and didn't play. That we have seen the same players each week and we're now left scratching our heads over ANB, Harmes and Bugg and crossing our fingers over Tyson, Kent and Gartlett. Preseason should be an opportunity to see how training form translates to matchday. Each match of the JLT Trengove was initially named, then demoted to emergency the morning of. I am very disappointed that we as fans, and the coaches didn't see what he was capable of over this four week stretch.
