So many people also blaming Lever for it, wow. He was picked up and thrown backwards and a tackle like that would be a sin bin in the NRL. I do think he put a bit of mayo at the end, but doesn't change the fact the tackle was dangerous.
Also, trying to use the weight difference as an excuse, Jack Viney has been on record saying his brother can easily take him down and he has him covered by a good 10-20kgs but it doesn't matter if you use your weight correctly.

so it turns out the filth did give murphy a new deal at the start of this year to last til the end of 2025
in the little paper jon ralph is saying:
They will honour that deal, but given the AFL has indicated it will set a precedent over Angus Brayshaw’s long-term contract it will not cost them in the salary cap.
The Pies and Demons will be able to exempt all or most of the salaries of those players going forward so Murphy’s retirement will in fact clear cap space for the Pies going forward.
Perfect. McLuggage anyone?

Contrast the rationale for clearing Yeo to the justification for suspending Pickett. There is simply no consistency in the rules that are being applied.
NFI! Christian strikes again.

@binman keen to get your thoughts how much benefit the Lions had from having their bye 3 weeks prior, given their pressure levels were incredible.
Based off this we should be in a pretty good physical condition for the Cats and Blues games, which hopefully can see us get wins in both games.

Kozz gets 3 weeks for that
Yep I'd say he definitely would've got one.
Christian's excuse for why he didn't get a suspension is a joke.

In regards to the real or perceived perception that the MRO does its best to protect the top players/brownlow chances, I think there is a pretty simple change that could be made.
They should only ban players from winning the brownlow if they are sent direct to the tribunal. Given how easy it is to be suspended these days, you could be slightly off on your attack on the ball and cop a week suspension. Suspensions previously were for acts off the ball or hitting a bloke late, whereas now you can be a millisecond off and get a suspension.
-
Butters is not a dirty player and I admire his attack on the ball, but players and supporters need to realise the game has shifted. How the AFL can condone that type of attack on the ball, which was a whisker from ending in a bad concussion to Banfield is a joke.

This is the major issue and the reason so many fans are frustrated, myself included. There is no consistency to the MRO or the tribunal findings and also the way the media and the AFL questioning is from case to case.
7 months ago Maynard performed one of the more dangerous acts I've seen on a footy field, which resulted in a player retiring and gets nothing. Pretty sure there were still rules around showing a duty of care at that time, so not sure why it wasn't applied in that case.
We now find ourselves where an incidental contact, while dumb from Kozzy it wasn't a dirty act and was made with very little force gets a 1 week suspension. In the same weekend Fogarty runs straight at Fyfe and launches himself at him with a clenched fist, misses the ball by a mile and punches him in the throat. This is assessed the same as a glancing blow from Kozzy.
Then last week Rivers tackles Rozee, who throws himself to the ground (arms free) and the MRO issue a fine. The next weekend Toby Greene dumps Mac Andrew into the turf and it's nothing to see because - his arm was free.
WTF is wrong with this competition and their adjudication.
The MRO needs to be a panel of people, not one bloke who has shown himself to be inept. I would also be comfortable if the AFL said, he will have a 3 man panel deciding each incident and there's no tribunal option, their decision is final. It's the AFL's competition they can suspend anyone they want, why does there have to be tribunal involved if they have a panel who can discuss and make decisions.
Yep I was 100% spot on here. Another weekend of inconsistency given the Butters/Crouch incidents over the weekend and also remembering Hunter's from last year.
Michael Christian just has to go. Butters act was 10 times more dangerous than Hunter from last year and yet he got nothing and Hunter got a week.

I know we usually play one short at the stoppage and a spare behind play, that seemed to kill us last night.
I do wonder if they should be changing that up against certain sides like Brisbane and Carlton who are really strong in a stoppage scenario.

I think we need to go for one of Macrae or McLuggage if we really want to go to the next level.
Both are very smart midfielders, which is probably one thing we are lacking (no disrespect to Vines, Trac and Oliver). Those guys are more explosive players and one of those two would complement them nicely.

This is a [censored] post IMO.
Even if you're thinking if, even if it's true, he's an 18-year old debutant playing in a side where his A-grade teammates were getting belted.
More importantly, he clearly isn't ready for AFL level football. That's on the FD, not him. He simply should not have been picked.
I want us supporting our kids, not throwing them under the bus.
Think he's a troll spouting garbage.
Would love the mods to kick people like this off....

Touumpas was playing senior footy in SANFL, winning a premiership before he was drafted, I believe it was the media and the fans, constantly reminding him he's not as good as wines, the pressure got to the kid
I believe he also had both hips operated on around the time he was drafted and that resulted in him losing a bit of speed.

Yes i agreed with an earlier post that said Woe to come in with Kolt as sub, but as WC reminded me today, Goody doesn't have a history of debutants coming in as sub.
And that was before a nod & a wink from Choco (hello WC) and a brief chat with an excited foal leaving the track.
Kolt is also more a like for like replacement for Kozzy, where Woey isn't

A question for the Demonland brains trust, as Caleb develops does he have the tools to play in the middle, aka Butters or Rozee? or is he too slight...
I think he does. He is actually quite similar in size to what Rozee was in his first season.

Clearly the Afls are now drawing a line in the sand regarding head high contact.
It's a joke they didn't do it last year.
Their inconsistent decisions make them look like clowns.

Its the turning and tucking of the shoulder with elbow out (yes I know he eventually extends the arm to push.. quick thinking from Kozz). But its this action the AFL wants to stamp out and the recent history shows this player has a habit of not showing duty of care when they leave their feet. Like the Peter Wright incident its split second stuff and so so hard to think quick but this action/instinct has the potential with head contact to cause damage and this action is why he won't get off tonight. The AFL need to make a stand (unfortunately for us... Should have been with Maynard last year).
Where's the duty of care of the players head here? And don't tell me this [censored] of 'he could have hit him so much harder' like thats going to stand up at the tribunal. Yes I know its the back angle which looks worse but it shows him turn his body and tucking.
If you just looked at that photo and nothing else you would think it's worth 3 weeks, but a photo doesn't tell the whole story and just captures a split second.
If you watch the video in real time he goes to smother the ball and then clips him very lightly, which you can't tell from a photo.
The media have been running with that photo because it suits their narrative.

@binman would love to know more about your stats regarding teams on a shorter break and how that effects performance?
Do you have a % number or something on how many teams with a longer break win the game?
How do you think our 7 day break v Brisbane 6 this week will benefit us?

They will have to argue low impact (which it was), but also that the action did not have the potential to cause serious injury, which I think you can definitely do as Kozzie didn't have much momentum and realistically could've hit him even harder if he wanted.
Not defending what Kozzy did, but those are the facts whether you like the way he plays or not.
It will then be up to the tribunal to decide if they agree or not.
Hopefully the lawyer we get does as good a job as Maynard's.....

Yet he's still 5-6 weeks away?
I reckon they are going conservative. Pretty sure Turner is 2-3 weeks ahead of their original timeline.

I usually like a lot of the stuff The Roar publishes.
This is purely disgusting. Calling Pickett a "sniper, it was a dog act, football's dirtiest player"
I think I'll find a way to complain to the publishers about this. It's really disgraceful journalism.
It will just stir up more unwarranted hatred for Koz. I hope the club stands up for him and appeals.
That's ridiculous, it was not a dirty act at all.
I will be unfollowing those clowns.

PREGAME: Rd 07 vs Richmond
in Melbourne Demons
Posted
I do wonder if rucking results in JVR being spent by the time he moves into the forward line, causing him to struggle to maximise his marking etc as a forward.
I am personally keen to see Fullarton come in for Brown as the ruck/forward and leave JVR at CHF for the Richmond game. I think Petty we just have to persist with as he gains fitness throughout the year.
