It took a single preseason for carlton to get a solid defence up and running and three for us to get it wrong .

Absolutely remember 2014 and it was the right thing to do .

So could it be that we add a security measure not pressing up as high or pulling 1 forward out to run back or station a loose man type situation against certain teams - gws left Patton loose at the top of the defensive goal square against doggies

The stats were similar- we won contested footy and hitouts - they had more tackles and despite our clangers efficiency was similar. 3% their way . They had more forward 50 tackles with 12 we only had 4 . They planned like good sides do to attack our weakness and take away a strength - the zone and forward 50 pressure. Switching play quickly and wide - clearing an area with breakneck overlap run not allowing turning a close encounter into a loose man goal fest . How can carlton get a defensive structure right so quickly? Although they score less we are out of whack completely.

We wont always win contested possesion and are vulnerable on the spread - negative out weighs the positive.

So frustrating to see it against the saints dogs and again today . embarrasing really makes us look worse than I believe we are. I want to see defenders defend not run in between guys with the ball who are about to kick goals . Balance it up . Rawlings out citydee in .

In bball you change your zone or press or man on man defenses in an instant- more difficult on a large oval but this zone is all or nothing. Do they expect to win contested ball every week? Not going to happen need a defense that allows defenders to defend . It's embarrassing again .

Skill errors but our zone again is easy to beat when they switch and play down the flank , or against a hard running overlap hawthorn will murder us .

Played juniors kjfa - won 2 flags lost won played three in a row 13's 15's . played 16 18s seniors till 30 ( missed a few seasons when playing music/ partying ) eastern districts 3rd / 4th division tough footy more so as a skinny half back flanker until around 21 when i put some weight on . Club had to choose 2 under 25's to do a preaseaon tryout with the dogs 96 , i was chosen didnt go shoulda although the other guy made the very last cut but ended up at the tiges on a sup list then divi 1 edfl , he was ten times better than I .

Im hoping for some weather and that we play one on one .

I reckon he knows this , standards have risen and guys who dont play there role are out , do it continually and your a twos player .
