im not really sure what you hope to gain by posting like this... this type of thread generates good discussion, offends no-one, is not provocative and all views are obviously backed up with a pretty reliable source -someone who has actually watched all 8 games. not many ppl around here could say they watch that much footy could they? i for one enjoy the read, and the discussion in these thread, especially when people suggest other players that arent mentioned. keep it up.

interesting take. the other side of the coin is that after a few weeks in the mfc side he was able to go back and hone his craft. it turns out he managed to apply what he learnt to great affect, and that he had learnt so much about the pace of play at afl that he seemed to be right on top of afl level. with just average games at afl level the last few weeks, the opportunity to go back a step and have such a dominate game would really give buckley a confidence boost, it would help his development as he now knows the standards he must attain and would see more clearly than before the differences between the two levels. will this help buckley put in that extra 5% over summer? will this help him know he is capable and spur him on that bit more? or would it have slowed his development as you suggest? good discussion point, but I dont think it proves anything. and regarding CJ i think we have a different issue. he has failed to go at afl a number of times (for various reasons) but unfortunately fails to dominate at vfl level also. for those who watch sandy regularly, how would you compare CJ's development to buckleys thus far, and how would you compare the game buckley played this week to the best games that CJ has played?

in particular finks the little video that is linked in that thread should be watched by everyone, it really sums it up well...
-
is there a way to get this to be compulsory viewing for all new/existing demonland posters? there is wisdom in that file...

good post because it sums it up well. bwell in particular has done him/her self no favours by carrying on a bit around here. and the latest effort of playing the .everyone here is rude and stuck up' card wont help the cause. what newer posters need to remember is that many of the topics you bring up have been thrashed out before and people have hear lots of arguments for both sides of a debate, this is why a quick shut down by some posters may seem aggressive or may seem to counter discussion. posters also need to remember that just because you say something doesnt make it true. arguments that are illogical, invalid or just plain stupid reflect on the poster. lines like these: may be your personal opinions. but they are not the opinions of others. and unless you want to back them up with some facts are just gonna get you ridiculed. when someone comes and says 'you're dreaming' don't stamp your foot and say no im right, because your argument is the minority. use the forum as a chance to give some reliable evidence in a well constructed argument to get your point across. when you are trying to convince people of an alternative point of view you need to be very succinct. and that is why ppl in this forum pick on poor spelling and grammar, it demonstrates that the poster probably isnt thinking all that hard about what they are writing. if you don't like who exists on this forum you don't have to join us and post with us. don't whinge, don't sook. just go away and don't come back. start your own forum if you want. if you lift your game, you will find that this site has much to offer. so please, post reasonable thought out posts and one day you might be part of the mob that picks on the newbies.

your stupid comment to post ratio continues to climb, but this one got me... do you know anything? have you paid any attention to the club in the past? you advocate keeping older players with average skills instead of developing the skills of younger players who at worst will most likely be capable depth players (in a similar mould to our current crop of nearly 30's) and at best could be players of the future. then you make a stupid comment like this one? garland is in his first year at the club. he is a long term project because of his lack of footballing background. on top of that you have seen that players get more than 2 years to prove themselves - CJ and miller are but two examples. the best example might be ferguson. you advocate keeping him because he is still developing (at 26 years old mind you) yet you want to sack a 19 year old kid who has been showing glimpses in only his 2nd or 3rd year of football and his first year at our club?

when we are winning the match review come out quick dont they? lol i actually forgot how enjoyable it was to win, id rather win than tank i reckon

i didnt see the game live but watched the replay this morn, i didnt get to watch it with my full attention but from what i saw jones davey and holland were our 3 best while the other 3 come from johnstone, robertson, brown, white and bell... the thing with davey was simply that he put himself in the right positions, he crumbed well and he chased hard. jones was at the bottom of everything, and invariably got it out, one of his best games for the club - and topped it off with a great crumbing goal, and holland was our best big man i thought, marking everything, although i thought robertson, newton and the skip all looked alright up forward, even if skip looked like he'd left his contacts at home... johnstone is an architect, and this game reaffirmed he is more valuable than bruce when both are playing on top of their games, if we are to trade for for picks i would rather bruce go, but if trapper can play like this all next year, and bruce get his legs right and his kicking up to scratch well we could end up having a very good year.

it wasnt today! argh.

trav will play. he played 3/4 for sandy last week and was apparently way out of his league...he'll get up.

after 6 weeks of playing rugby i believe my fitness is back up to standard where i could stand around and occassionly run at the ball (or the player with it), so i will endeavor to be available for the next game. unfortunately my kicking skills dont quite compare to my efforts in the scrum or around the rucks, and given im a front rower i dont need to pass or kick anyway. lol

wow thats a big slab of our list that has played at sandy one time or another this year...i wonder how that compares to other afl/vfl affiliates? fwiw, if anyone is heading down to watch the seniors but not interested in the reserves drop past Sparks reserve in box hill to see box hill rugby club take on melbourne uni, the game of particular note is the reserves KO 130pm which will feature a passionate melbourne supporter at tight head prop lol I might be able to get across for the second half of the sandy game, which will be interesting... edit: sorry if i wasted anyones time, i thought the game was yesterday...wish i hadve realised before now cos i had the day off and would have gone across and watched!

yeah i dont think bodes elevation puts him permanently on the list because when bartram comes off the long term injury list bode drops back to rookie status...
-
i suppose by appointing ratten before round 22 we can gauarntee who will win that final game two clubs want the pick, but only 1 coach does
-
i read your four points, and the standard of football knowledge you apparently possess is obviously as limited as your ability to spell. you obviously haven't passed primary school English lessons, and you obviously haven't watched Daniel Bell play very often.

ive got no problem trading anyone, including bruce, green or white, but we must get the right value, and i would be looking for first round picks and other early 2nd round picks rather than 3rd and 4th round picks. if we decide to go the hawthorn trade route we need our first round pick, another late first round pick, the priority 2nd round, our 2nd round, and perhaps a 3rd late second round pick, 5 in the first 2 rounds, 5 of the best 35 players in the draft. i would have no aversions to us doing this at all...

im not gonna bother arguing with the rest of what you say when you post commets like this. try reading this article that was published only last week... Gary Lyon: "Sheedy Perfect" "He is a perfect fit for the Melbourne Football Club."
-
interesting, but i think that if we can get moloney fit he could be the difference between us having a good midfield and a great one. he kicks long, he runs hard, and he hits the packs hard. his disposal, when on song, is pretty good also. i think he would be the icing on the developing cake for us...

i think we are all missing the point with this discussion. i am not discounting bizzel as a player who has performed this year when he has been needed (in a poor team he has been reasonable). however, at 30 years of age, i still dont believe he has enough to offer the mfc as we look to win a premiership in the coming half decade. the money he is paid, and the position he holds, would be better utilised on player retainment and in developing a younger defender. bizzell might get a season next year. he might even play a few games the year after. but while he may be a servicable defender, and while he may perform when needed, we need to develop players who will be around for 10 years at the expense of his sort of player. the only thing that might save him is that there are heaps of guys who will be delisted before him. however, if we could only keep one tall defender in reserve i would keep holland because at least he can play a specific role that no one else can...
-
is that like being reported for "striking or pushing"? how can you report someone for one or the other? lol
-
we do have one, i believe it is just the 'Melbourne football club coterie' but i couldnt find anything on the website when i had a skim either...
-
out of interest last week we only 22 to adelaide...does anyone know how many we took to canberra? also did sandy play today? would be interesting to see who lined up...
-
cos as long as he is a great player he'll be a good coach???? whats your reasoning?
-
rewatch the tapes the last two years he has mostly been taking them on his chest. this is why his marking is good when on a long lead away from the goals (he has a break on his opponent) but not when it is man on man or when the kick is poor and he has to prop. bate marks in his hands, miller on his chest. have a look.

i see bizzell as competing for the same position rivers players (in a perfect world), rivers is injured however and bizz still isnt in. on paper the tall defenders picked ahead of him are ferguson, carroll, holland, miller and frawley. carroll and biz are not playing the same position and bizz comes in. miller and ferg are getting played to see if they are capable etc. last roll of the dice. frawley is getting played for development purposes and i hope he is picked ahead of bizz for this reason... that leaves bizz competing with holland. realistically, after carroll, holland is the only player in that list capable of picking up a strong tall defender, which is a blight on miller, but he is 'learning the ropes' in the back half...dropping holland for bizz would leave the backline very skinny wouldnt it? i have commented on bizzell this year and dismissed him a number of times. he has proved me wrong somewhat with his on field performances and has played well at times. however, i still dont think bizzell is part of our future and i would be happy if this year was his last. because of that i would rather see development take priority...
