disagree with those statements regarding membership. we have record membership, and would have cracked 30K this year if we had of one one or two early games. our membership had an increase of something like 16%. do you expect it to double in 12 months?

interesting but i think you are taking a very pessimistic look at things. gardner and co havnt lost us 2 mil this year. we are down about a mil on expected profit, but there are heaps of factors involved including injuries, player payments and poor crowds. you say we need our financial stability to be independent of our on field performance? i agree, but unfortunately we are currently in debt. you need to spend money to make money - you need capital. at the moment we havnt got capital to spend. once we get in a position with a positive bank balance, we will see an improvement in the clubs position as it can then afford to invest. the 'handout' from the afl is interesting. collingwood get 17 games at the g. interstate clubs have sell outs at their grounds every week. geelong can sell seats at skilled for exorbitant prices. we dont have those high income streams. in this way the afl helps even it out. i am concerned about the staff turnover however.

haha i thought the same thing!

i can hear them whinging now 'oh but we have the best youth' and 'oh we are the best side'. you know what? you are scum and your players didnt make the AA shortlist, and we beat on queens bday. now go back to your trailer. lol

holland didnt step in the door- he stayed in adelaide. but was officially listed nonetheless and was traded by them to richmond at the end of the season. for all intents and purposes he is the last roy boy, however scott was there at the end. and played for the place...

now thats a very interesting idea. im not ready to discount it yet, but many will straight away. the reason i like it is the same reason why many pushed this year for miller in the backline...with all his attributes he could well be more valuable in the forward line than the backline. people wanted to put miller back because his lack of skills get found out up forward, well rivers ability could be an asset. i think however at this stage, rivers asset is reading the play and cutting off opposition attacks - i am not sure how this would translate into leading and positioning himself...and im not sure if he is strong enough to mark in contested situations, its harder to mark than to spoil. if dunn is developed as a CHB then rivers could be tried up forward, but methinks at this stage he is more vauable down back.

i couldnt care less how many dees get in, but i am stoked no pies did

ealier you said you couldnt see him becoming chad cornes like, but now your saying he could become a CHB? what sort of CHB do you envisage? im not saying his marking is poor, but he lacks the ability to take a contested mark, especially when its overhead. this might simply be an issue or weight and strength, which will be overcome with a preseason or two...he does like to tap the ball down to himself where he can use his pace and agility to win it on the ground. i doubt we'll trade him. there is no value in trading youth, unless we thought we could win a flag next year. if you are over 27 you could be in danager of being traded because you wont be around next time we challenge seriously for the flag, but 20 year olds dont get traded...

i would be happy if he did that also. you mean almost in a ryan okeefe mould? it will be interesting to see what happens to his body the next 12-24 months, if he bulks up or maintains the lighter build...

good points re the rareness of such players...but dunn seems to be an unknown talent at this stage. he hasnt been getting heaps of it and he has gone missing at times, but the smarts are there. could playing him in the backline in such a role help him learn to find the footy, sort of like having him tag a player in the centre? my query regardin HFF is whether his marking is strong enough over head and contested...what do you think of his marking? something he can work on, or something he'll have to live with. his hands are alright out in front. another thing ive noticed is that he doesnt yet put his body 100% on the line. he might harge in but he twists, tries to win the footy, rather than trying to take an the opposition. i suppose that would go against CHB but its not a good trait anywhere on the ground for mine.

pretty pumped that bailey is showing this sort of initiative...hope it comes to something, but even if not at least we know he is keen and ready to hit it hard at first.

thanks for the responses guys, at least some people around here still want to talk footy instead of getting caught up in petty arguments!

i'll say the same to you as i say to everyone else. if you dont like it here, leave. no one asked you to come, and in all honesty the place would probably be better if you werent here. but thats not my issue. i posted a throw away line and you are carrying on like the proverbial pork chop. if im a child, you're the moron kid who stands there and says 'i know you are but what am i?' because you have no real come back or intelligence. and in any case you are the one who started throwing the mud around. now stop wasting everyones time and start worrying about posting on the thread topics.

fair enough. but it would be much more interesting if people would elaborate and contribute to the discussion rather than simply saying no...

lol i wasnt bagging him i was playing on the typo/pun/mistake (whatever it was). most people would have seen it, and either disregarded my poor attempt at humour and moved on, or chuckled at the pun and the moved on. why dont you just move on? people dont have to like rhino, but the majority of the time he makes very good football sense. it was not rhino who started any insults in this thread, and it wasnt me either. attacking RR because of his reputation makes one sink lower than the level they believe him to be at.
-
you cant see him become chad cornes like? both 192cm, cornes is 96kgs to dunns 90kgs, but considering dunn is only 20 yo... i just feel he has the motor to run all day, the height, good speed for a big guy, agility and is willing to back himself into a contest. i could seeing him becoming a CHF is he worked on his marking, which is why i think CHB could suit him, the marking is not as big an issue. he obviously has the smarts to play in almost any position, he seems to do the smart footy thing. yes i like him in the midfield, but i think he would be more valuable if he developed into a successful CHB than another midfielder...

why are they interviewing a st kilda ruckman about our coach situation?
-
presents? did you bring me one mr. richards?
-
funny how it appears the MRP havnt viewed all the footage, or perhaps didnt view any at all. and they clearly havnt look at their own guidelines or compared the incident to recent incidents to make sure they are consistent... what do they actually do then? make guess based on the umpires written report?
-
good point. in all honesty i didnt really think this through, i just took the team above and swapped some positions around to see where some players could possibly play. bell and petterd would both be providing run from the backline, and in hindsight, i doubt we would line up with all 4 talls in the backline at once...so an extra runner might be in there... regarding defensive pressure from the forwards, you have davey. newton chases but is a tall. who do you suggest we play in the forward line to add defensive pressure? we dont really have anyone else do we? what do you think of dunn at CHB?
-
at least with PJ we see an improvement over the course of the season. at the start of the year he couldnt mark the ball, he has worked on that. he is also using his body better. his ruckwork isnt terrible and around the ground he runs hard and chases like a little man, and is decent below the knees. none of that could be said for jamar except that after how many years, he still doesnt have it.

FB: Frawley Carroll Bell HB: Petterd Dunn Rivers C: Green Mclean Bartram HF: Bruce Newton Bate FF: Davey Neitz Robertson Ruck: White, Jones , McDonald Interchange: Sylvia, Johnstone, P Johnson, wheelan I like the idea of dunn at CHB, could become a chad cornes type, and even if it doesnt work long term, i think he will learn a lot from it. i want davey going back deep to crumbing, and sent up ground for minutes at a time... bruce can part of the midfield rotations yes, however if we have a fit list, with bartram, sylvia, and others also in the team, bruce can afford to spend a bit more time up forward. i like him forward, he marks and leads well. if he hits fantastic form he can go back in the guts, but that means another smaller mid has to come forward... are we too heavy down back? i dont think so. we only have one tall on the bench, and this sort of defensive structure allows rivers to be released a little. while still having 3 talls. frawley also has a bit of pace so i think this back 6 would be effective. again i think we are a little too tall in our forward line, but we dont have another short forward. sylvia will be rotated through the forward line, simply because we need another small up there and he can play forward quite well... if the back six is settled, i would like to see wheelan tried up forward as another crumber, and perhaps bartram just for short bursts. Regarding bate, in the long run, i think he is not going to be a genuine CHF, but a big utility with an engine. maybe like a lesser kouta. hopefully he can play stints at CHF, stints in the centre, and run off a flank. I think newton is a genuine key forward. he may push up the wing to find some ball, but in the long run i really see him sitting in the goal sqaure replacing neitz...
-
i still think the best goal of the year was yzes backwards banana from the boundary the week fletcher won it...unfortunately he is now out of the running... mark of the year, im not sure if he won but richos speccy against collingwood a couple of weeks ago was something special, otherwise i thought newton flew pretty well...
-
welcome to demonland brad, i didnt realise you posted here... we darfted bate with a first round pick. he is now a few years older and has shown potential. why on earth would we trade him for less than we bought him for? thats ridiculous. miller gained confidence this week only. i have no problems with keeping him, but he goes well well before bate. he has played 85 games for chrissake and still doesnt know what to do when he gets it.

check the list, it is available on the aflpa website... what i am saying is that on match day, all drugs are considered performance enhancing, and yes amphetamines are on that this (in my knowledge). however, when out of competition, drugs that will result in performance enhancement (steroids, epo etc) brign an immediate ban, while 'recreation drugs', that have only immediate effects draw a strike under the afl policy. most athletes arent tested for these drugs out of competition.
