  1. My mail (from a good source) is that we shouldn't be worried about his hammy.

It's his passionate love of photography that has curbed his enthusiasm for the game, and could well see him exit footy at contract's end.

If he cannot juggle football and landscape photography, then I'd have no problem if he left the club.

We only want footballers who want to play football - and more so, want to play for the MFC.

Nothing about Clark suggests that he is about to abandon plans of playing football.

But, of course, he has been injured for some time and one can say some silly things when they are frustrated.

  2. Fyfe will never leave WA, smart move by his manager, Freo has a war chest which they saved up for unsuccesful tilts at Clarke & Cloke, Sandilands, Mcpharlin & Pavlich all coming to the end. I can see Fyfe getting a very big front loaded contract and believe me they will come big for Jesse next season.

A ball park figure of around $400-500k for him returning home after two years was spoken about last season (not revealing source) but I trust them. The source does not believe the offer was official and was just a matter of contact and discussion point.

Source also stated Hoges is currently very happy at the Dees

I doubt that source, that is on the low side for Fyfe.

Fyfe was a top 10 players in the comp in 2013, should be top 5 this year.

  3. Thomas just calling out Roos high levels of self love, nothing we didn't know about Roos.

I didn't like Roos before he jumped aboard, but I don't think anyone can doubt that he isn't a great coach - he has always been a great coach.

Roos knowledge of the game is second to none, I don't care if he is a complete narc, he gets results. We need results.

  4. Lots would depend on Salem's natural build, plus how much he had been looking after his nutrition prior to coming to MFC more so than if he was doing gym work. Putting on 5kg is not too hard if there's lots of improvement available because he was coming from a long way back, and if he was just eating mum's cooking.

Agree that a modern footballer doesn't really need the beach muscles (e.g. Sylvia, Tapscott, Magner) and gaining lots of size in the upper body is less important than leg and core strength. You never get to bench press or bicep curl an opponent away from the ball. And if you're fit enough to get there before the opponent for the duration of the game, maybe you don't need much of anything.

There was another comment about clothing making players look different. Definitely agree, most players look huge to me in football gear, but in civvies look very slim. I worked at Carlton briefly almost 20 years ago (eek). I remember standing next to Koutoufides in his non footy gear.and being amazed at how slim, almost skinny he looked. He looked nothing like that in his footy jumper.

Also there is a massive difference between 85kg in a footballer's physical condition and 85kg in a "normal" man's physical condition. Footballer will take up less physical space, muscle is much denser than fat, even though the scale is identical. Footballer probably sitting around 10% body fat, and the "normal" male 20%+(+++)!

Standing next to Freeman on draft day, it was evident how much Salem needed to improve his body shape.

If we can get Salem even playing mid year it would be a massive advertisement for the club, considering in the past we've had the likes of Morton unable to bulk up much after years in the system, development under Roos might be something we have not seen in a while.

  5. No surprise Salem dominated, best spent pick in the past decade for MFC.

There are no flaws in his game, he is inside by instinct - outside by skill and class. Tough, tenacious yet pure silk.

His game is tighter than Kelly's, his inside is far better than Freemans, his outside game has far more polish than Freeman's.

Player of the future, no doubt.

Good to see Toumpas get a kick to.

  6. I understand the logic but my greatest concern is that one of our best players and a guy who can be elite at his position is waiting for the club to turn around. Why is there not belief already that things have changed? Where is his confidence that through on field deeds and leadership he can change things?

Now part of that is also as a full back his main job is to limit the oppositions best forward and he's not the ball winning midfielder who can get 10 clearances and 30 plus touches and really break open a contest. And the other concern is that we've been through this all before when Neeld replaced Bailey.

But compare it to Travis Boak who in Port's darkest hour had faith in his team mates and faith in the club.

If Frawley truly isn't sure that things will change then doesn't that say a lot about the psyche of the players. If a gun like Frawley isn't sure how things are going to go how are lesser players meant to be confident to perform?

Boak nearly signed at Geelong, I've heard no legitimate mutterings about Frawley speaking to other clubs.

Frawley is just waiting it out and good on him, the MFC has been a rabble the majority of the time he has been here.

  7. Was a big mistake to appoint Trengove captain.

All wise football heads were vocal about this and it panned out as such.

Nathan Jones plays the way MFC need to play, people might say Jones is an introvert - but he leads by example.

Jones is desperate, determined, tough and disciplined, he just gets it done, that is what we need, to get it done, instead of talking about it.

  8. Good thread OD. Very important topic.

Now hear me out..... one from left field.....

There is talk that Vlad may step down this year.... rumours it could be as early as Feb or at the end of the season. Could we consider him? Has the experience, knows the system like the back of his hand. clearly not within our price range. Or perhaps McLachlan, or someone from within senior AFL ranks? Adrian Anderson anyone?

Actually, forget it. I apologise in advance......

    Pass me another drink please......

I'd say no to Vlad, I think it's important that we replace PJ with someone just as ethical as the great man - which obviously rules out Vlad.

  9. Happy with the choice of captains, happy with the leadership group and happy with the number of guys in the leadership group.

I love that none of these guys are speculative, they're all experienced and solidly embedded in our best 22 (Trenners unfortunately being the exception) and all quality individuals.

There's a lot to be excited about at the club right now.

I do agree with you, I just find it baffling that Trengove hasn't became an elite player.

Of all out draftees in the past decade, I'd say Jack Trengove was the most impressive as a junior, I'd of bet my left nut that he'd develop into an elite player.

Looks so far from it the past couple of years, let's hope Roosy can help Trengove become a better player.

  10. Fair decision with Jones now right beside Trenners at the coalface. Jones absolutely deserves to be a skipper. The LG is pretty good and will give more stability to our onfield efforts in 2014.

Jones beside Trengove at the coalface, lol...

Nathan Jones is at the coalface, week in - week out, would be good if Trengove could give him a chop out.
