MFC needed a performed based leader. We'd slipped into a culture of dependence and mediocrity, Nathan Jones was the only guy at the time who represented something else. Nathan Jones represented a guy who taken full responsibility, didn't blame others, just put his head down and played quality football - that is the type of leader MFC needed. Look at all the guys that came through our club, Scully, Moloney, McLean, etc. All players who blamed others when things went wrong. Nathan Jones blamed no-one, he led through is actions - and that is exactly what MFC needed to do at the time. Nick Maxwell was a good leader for Collingwood, but their club circumstance was A LOT different to ours. Collingwood has an even spread of leaders - and Maxwell got to do an apprenticeship under Buckley. Nick Maxwell was surrounded by leaders. Maxwell served the purpose of getting those leaders to work together. Neeld's co-captaincy experiment was an utter failure, even if the concept does work - appointing young kids and expecting them to lead a poorly run football club = a recipe for disaster.

Spot on.. No better time for a bump. Paul Roos, you have done a HELL of a job. Within a year of coming in, Roos has stripped Trengove and Grimes of the captaincy. Our captaincy should've always been performanced based. Thank you Paul Roos.

Leaving yourself wide open for criticism when you do 200 clicks and post it on social media. I'd be saying the same about anyone who did this - it is just that Garlett makes a habit of stupid behaviour. I just hope they can lock him up now, kid needs some to be incapacitated for he seriously injures someone.

Training - Friday November 21, 2014

Kennedy Harris looks like he has lived in a gym since our last game. Fair to say we nailed the draft last year. Both Salem and Toumpas (even though not draft last year) remain absolute X factor players coming into 2015.- 65 replies

Garlett realised early in his AFL career that he got more attention being a thug and a could've been. So what did he do, he retired, now he is a thug and a could've been. While the media continue to write stories about this kid, he will continue to make them, this is his career. I wish the media could write 'The mentally weak Garlett' before every headline, but of course they cannot do that. It might deter the kid, he is only doing it for a headline. Keep giving him headlines - and he'll keep giving you a reason to write more.

We've got half a list full of blokes that aren't up to the level, so I won't miss a player who cannot even break into the half of blokes who aren't good enough to play AFL. Barry, Evans, McKenzie, Hunt, Fitzpatrick, Tapscott, just keep on sweeping Roosy. These guys aren't up to standard, they can barely get a kick in the VFL. Salem gets dropped back to the VFL and then tears it up, whereas Blease makes a career of staying there and still couldn't get a kick. Now these guys have got the short shift, the pressure will be on others to perform. Out of all those blokes, Tapscott is the only player I'd of picked where we did. We weren't to know he'd look like Tarzan and play like Jane.

AFL National Draft 2014 Pick 53

Lucas Webb for mine, will be an absolute gun. -
Good luck to Barry. I'd walk away away from this game aswell.

Where do we finish on the ladder next year?
KingDingAling replied to CBDees's topic in Melbourne Demons
We'll be bottom 2 IMO. GWS and Gold Coast will climb ahead of us. MFC and St Kilda will be bottom 2. Essendon is an unknown atm. I don't see us making the 8 in the next 5 years. -
I'd like to know why McCartin is anxious with his sets shots. Is it a bigger issue? Football is 90% above the shoulders. This concerns me to be honest. I like his style, he plays like a man, but is he really just a big boy amongst kids? I trust Roos will get it right, we buggered this up with Dustin Martin, Wines, Parker, Sloane. It is time we started taking blokes who do not doubt themselves. If McCartin is one of those, all good and well, but I hope MFC is asking the tough questions.

He is coming off an ACL and that simply cannot be ignored. At pick 3, there is too much risk IMO.

Reasons why and why not to sign up in 2015
KingDingAling replied to Soidee's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is the only year since I can remember that I won't be renewing. I like the direction of the club, they can make me respect them now - because they have lost my respect. For the first time in a long time, MFC are playing for the right to have me as a member. -
I just thought I'd throw it out there that Blease looked very impressive. Laverde is explosive like Blease, how many explosive players have turned into stars? Judd, Dangerfield, Rioli.. Either way it is a short list compared to those who fail. All the same, I am not sure McCartin is any safer choice than Laverde. But, he does have a very clean set of hands for a forward.
-
He does look pretty good, so did Blease.

I'd do it just to ensure Roos hung around for the next 5 years. Not only that, but we have Viney, Stretch, Lovett on the way. Would be good to have a band of these kids.G Roos was arguably a better player than those guys, so for those big on bloodlines - it is appealing.
-
Is he expected to be drafted? I assume our pick in the 50's is earmarked for him. I haven't heard a lot about the kid.
-
Thompson, Worsfold, or any other past coach who knows what it takes to win a flag.
-
Thought the Suns would've wanted a winner.
-
Just like to throw my support behind young Jack. All the best mate. I believe this will be the making of Trengove. He just needed some motivation, now he has it.
-
In fairness to Brayshaw, not many highlights were better than JT's. Trengove was destined to be a gun. I do not know what happened, perhaps MFC happened.

AFL National Draft 2014 Pick 40
KingDingAling replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Small guys that make it are usually stocky and built like tanks. Daniel is small and lightly framed. I cannot see him making it. I don't think he'll be picked up in the ND. Maybe a rookie, but really he is up against it. -
AFL National Draft 2014 Pick 40
KingDingAling replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Touk Miller is a good footballer, has a bit of Parker/Sloane about him - albeit a lesser version atm. But if any player shares the comparison of 'no frills' footballer, then it is Miller. The guy I am keen on at 40 or 53 is Lucas Webb. I'm a massive wrap for this kid. -
So now St Kilda want Membrey to train with them early. Bad luck I say, can't have your cake and eat it - should've picked him up with a late pick. The AFL should knock this on the head.

Terry Wallace's list analysis - 2014 edition
KingDingAling replied to whatwhat say what's topic in Melbourne Demons
No comparison. Salem MILES ahead. Kid is composed, classy and well balanced. Toumpas is rushed, awkward and scared. Salem is hard as nails, Toumpas is soft as butter. Polar opposites these 2, the only thing they have in common is they both have sublime skills.- 38 replies

Yep, would be an excellent replacement. By the sounds of things McCarthy is cut from the same cloth as Stone. Cooney and Griffen undermined McCarthy - and both have since shown their true form.
