  1. This night has become my favourite home and away game. It's hauntingly beautiful build up is something to behold. So proud our country and game continues to give the respect and love to those taken from their families and loved ones. This one will be the first without our beloved RDB, which makes it even more emotional. I personally lost an uncle I never knew on HMAS Sydney. Another uncle was a POW in Changi. A postcard he sent from there is a one of my most treasured possessions. Fortunately, both my, and my wife's, father came back to us, relatively unscathed. Of course, we never really know the mental scars they lived with. Our club lost at least 30 players in the word wars and countless injured and I love that our B & F is named after one of them. I will be there, no doubt with a tear in my eye, but it won't be due to the result. ❤️💙🇦🇨

  2. I'm certain OOZE will be pushing every coaching button known to win this one. But it it just aint going to happen! I predict we will be up and about tonight and get away to a flyer and go to a comfortable win. I would really like to see a blinder from Clarrie to show the footy world he's back to being the superstar we Dees fans know. I also reckon Kozzie will enjoy the big stage and produce some magic. Dees by 30 points.

  5. But after a loss to WC I expect Ooze and Richmond to come out spitting fire, im not expecting an easy game.

  6. The time is here and I’m putting out a gameday PSA. If you have never been to the ANZAC eve game before I strongly encourage you to get along tonight. I know it’s an away game but the pre match ceremony is truly something the be seen in person. “They shall not grow old” and great words but I believe that nights like this really put that into practice. We all enjoy living in this great country and this night is for all of us. I myself have a deep personal connection with WW2. While my background is Greek, my grandfather and my great uncle served in the RAAF in New Guinea. They both returned but had their lives changed forever from that point on. I’ll always be proud of what these two and many others sacrificed so could live the lives we do today and I’m always thinking of them during the minutes silence. Regardless of your background or what you believe this night/day is for you and again if you’ve never experienced it I would seriously consider getting along tonight or to the dawn service at the Shrine tomorrow which I’ll also be attending. And lastly, go the mighty Dees!

  7. We've got so many of them now, they might need to form their own club like the Wingers. Maybe call it The Swingers Club? Oh dear

  8. Going full-nuffie today. Gonna go to both matches. The amount of Red Bull and coffee required would drop a horse, but I’m all across it. 🥳 Unrelated: can a person die from guarana overdose? Asking for a friend who may or may not have already had two Vs. Also, this… Forgotten? Forgotten by whom, exactly?

  9. My great grandfather Raymond Harbour fought in France in WWI, and while he came home alive, he did have a bullet lodged in him for the rest of his life that couldn't be removed. My mother attempted to trace her family tree, and couldn't go much further back than Raymond (her paternal grandfather) as it seems he was adopted as a young child - the records were not very well kept on these back in the late 19th century. We do know he was brought up in Bendigo, and that was where my grandfather was born. Pop Harbour was a very private man who did not like to speak much about his war experiences, however he did live until 1974, and one time, when my auntie was pregnant with my cousin Karen, Pop just one day opened up and just started talking. My uncle and mum started to record what he was talking about, and I wish I knew where that tape was. Not long after, Pop died, and then Karen was born. Edit - I've just discovered this on Pop, talking about his war medals. Uncle Alan has his medals. - https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/336690

  11. ‘You don’t need a stadium for AFLW…’ What is this pervasive, hypercritical dichotomy we have with AFLW? It isn’t just you RIF, the AFL have literally given them quotas for attendance to expand the season that are higher than the max attendance of the grounds they are forced to play at. So while you may glibly say that the AFLW team doesn’t need a grandstand can I respectfully push back and say that I want to take my daughter and son to watch Kate, Tayla, Alyssa, and Eliza in a [censored] covered, seated area. We can’t grow the game when it’s deliberately stuck in a bottle by those that are purported to be running it.

  12. The only way to watch. Is with no sound. why listen to drivel, if you are on D’land you know as much about football as the clowns on the box. Very few have much insight, and not the main ones. Closed room, the dog in the other room, yell as loud as you want. Go Dee’s

  13. From some of the comments, it's clear this game is much more than a simple sports event. It should not take anything away from the day itself but for me its a prelude that provides flashes of memories of my mother's father...William Barker who fought in the Somme and was badly injured but happily survived and came back to Oz to start a family. Sadly he was a fanatical South Melbourne supporter in later years and tried to convert me as a young kid from following my dad's one true and only team. I suppose I'm one of the older members of the Dland community. I'm guessing there are quite a few younger ones who are possibly ex or current servicemen or women. Honour your relatives, loved ones or mate or even yourself with a deserving Dland shoutout. Lest we forget.

  15. If you are interested, you can get replicas made up. Many places do them. Many families have a custodian of the originals and siblings etc have a set of replicas. Nice display boxes available too.

  16. I'm good with it for now. Whoever is in there will need time to learn on the job. Woey just needs games at this point, progress won't always be linear but worth persisting with IMO.

  17. Have we ever been as excited to see a player who was a mid season rookie draft selection and has played 3 games in 3 years, as we are excited to see Disco? From what I've seen he looks the goods and I'm excited for him to play! I just reflect on how anti messiah he is.

  18. My grandfather was a vet from WW1. Like many others he didn’t like to talk about the war. But there is one special story about him that we will never forget. He didn’t drink, smoke gamble or play cards, except on one occasion he did - while his platoon was on a long distance train travel. He played cards that night and gambling was involved. It turns out he was a healthy winner, so with his profits he purchased a camera. He then became popular as his mates all wanted photos to send home. He saved every dollar he earned from this side venture. He was either expensive or it was a long campaign, because when he returned to western Victoria after the war, he used his savings to purchase a bus, and started a bus line based in Hamilton and heading to and fro Portland, among other places. Ultimately he sold that business to a young up and comer by the name of Reg Ansett snr who obviously was able to grow the business exponentially and ultimately expanded into the airline business. My grandfather never played cards or gambled again. Not sure about the drink though. It’s he who I fondly remember each and every ANZAC day. Lest we forget.

  19. I had four uncles that served in WW2 two saw action one in New Guinea and one in Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), one was a despatch rider who was badly injured when he came off his bike in the MEast and one who served in Japan as occupation troops. However the one that we think most about is my father-in-law who was in the 8th Division, he fought down through Malaya, captured in Singapore, he spent time in Changi, Burma Railway, back to Changi and then shipped to Japan to work in a mine until the war ended. He was located not far from Nagasaki and he and all prisoners were told that as soon as the US invaded Japan that they would all be executed. He told my wife that when the war concluded the Yanks parachuted in food supplies to them in Red, White and Blue parachutes and that he still got a tear in his eye when he thought about those huge planes and those beautiful parachutes bringing food and supplies to them as the Japanese troops had cleared out when the ceasefire was declared.💕

  21. How about we have a dedicated AFL reserves competition? If that's too expensive then at least have a Victorian Reserves League - and let the standalone VFL teams play in their own separate competition. The Victorian Reserves League could play all their games on a Sunday afternoon, (allowing for emergencies from Thur-Sat games to play most games), and have extended benches so that players can be better managed (eg someone returning from injury might just play 3/4 of a game etc).

  29. I think the weather will be okay tonight, according to the Bom anyway the bulk of the rain will be done by lunchtime...hopefully. Bit ordinary that we get worried in the wet though. Laurie would want to absolutely "bring it" tonight, bit miffed that Kolt got dropped but hopefully he'll be back soon. GO DEES GAME DAY HELL YEAH!!!

  34. It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

  36. No longer on Kayo Buck. Crank up your mobile or laptop and enjoy. But don't try and cast it to your TV. The AFL reckon that's a little too much luxury for us VFL riff-raff.

  38. as an AFL member myself, I am completely fine with it if: Level 1, 2 and 2a are not diluted it is only opened up on the night if the rest of the ground is completely full They make it clear to AFL members that this is going to happen and if members want to revolt, they can. Its most likely a lot of Melbourne home/away access members are going to be the people that are let in Remember the MCC gives up Q37-Q40 to the Public for pretty much all non-Melbourne games these days

  46. Tholstrup is very professional at the training sessions. Reminds me of Viney, he has extreme drive and standards for himself. He will turn every stone to make sure he becomes a staple in the 22.

  48. FFS..Laurie…if this bloke has another sub 10 disposal game and more clangers, I am done. It’s a nonsensical decision. The same pattern repeats…he can’t cut it at AFL level, goes back to VFL, has a blinder and is straight back in. It’s time to produce

  49. That’s all well n good. Now for the important stuff 😁 Ardu and Kozzie are the proud parents of a healthy baby girl, as yet unnamed. Born last Thursday. Kozzie described the feeling as “unreal” 🥹 Ollie Sestán’s nickname at the Club is Sesto. His surname is pronounced Chestahn. He’s Croatian/Italian. His parents are (in his own words) Aussie AF. Melksy’s little boy, Teddy, barracks for the Demons and his favourite player is… Fritta. 😅 According to Chocco, Bowsa is closer to being right to go than we think. He was practicing tackling with one of the trainers and was not holding back. He was going in hard. You wouldn’t know he’d broken his collarbone relatively recently. Chocco was watching on, very pleased. Clarrie was in a serious frame of mind today. Not unhappy or angry, but super immersed in everything be did. His concentration and focus was unwavering and really impressive. Back to nicknames… Knuckles McVee LOVES his nickname so it’s here to stay. I unwittingly changed JB14’s nickname from ‘Jubba’ to ‘Jibba’ 🤭 (long story). And while Shane Mc said he doesn’t mind ‘Smacka’’ his demeanour said ‘You know where you can stick your Smacka’ 😁 He’s pumped to be playing tomorrow. This I know for sure because when I said, “Hey how’re ya going, Shane!” He replied, “I’m playing tomorrow!” Then he said, “Great! How are you?” 😂
