  1. Just heard on SEN that LJ has advised west Coast he is not walking through to the PSD. Still wants Freo but will not screw over his old club.

  2. Come on, Collingwood. All you need to do, is bend over. And take it.

  4. Wtf is this post, DS? Do you just chuck the feet up and hit the turps before posting on Demonland sometimes?

  5. Yes, I feel like I am going insane when people say ‘we were amazing during that 10-0 run! What happened?’ We weren’t great. We won sometimes before the game was played, and played a great quarter or good half for most of that run. Plus we played teams that weren’t great. We had the same problems with a lack of pressure and little run and dare. Once we came up against better teams - bang, there’s the wall…

  6. I'm saying speed across the ground is not an issue for us. We are plenty 'fast' enough. My comment about the 'narratives' is the commentators regularly noted we were a 'fast team' - when in fact that what they should have focused on is our ability to move the ball quickly. We looked like world beaters in that 10 zip run because we were fit and running in waves - and when we pressed the button regularly transitioned the ball super quickly, just as we did in the first half and last third of 2021. And as a result i I wouldn't prioritize an ability to run fast in anyone we draft or trade in. I would prioritize foot skills because that is what will increase our ability to transition the ball quickly. In footy these days, how fast a player can run is barely a factor in how fast a teams can move the ball given how infrequently players actually get the chance to run and carry and how little space they have Which is not to say speed is not helpful. I think Freo has the most genuinely quick players - and if they can get the ball on the outside and into space use that leg speed to good effect. The Swans are probably second to Freo in terms of leg speed. But we have very few plodders and have plenty of players who can cover ground quickly - including our bigs who are all pretty quick for their size. You imply the Cats, Swans and Pies are fast teams. What's is you evidence that is the case? Their performances in the last part of the season? Their ability to transition the ball quickly?. Or do you actually think they have more quick players than us? I don't, with the possible exception of the Swans. The Cats quicker than us? Please. Go back and look at two in season lions game. We torched them them for speed. Yes, but lions are slow i hear you say. Then go to the first Giants game - again we absolutely torched them for speed. Still not convinced? Go back and watch the first half of the second Pies game - the pies were chasing our tail, and as a result looked slow and we looked fast. Hunt is arguably our fastest player. He was in our best 22, so no fringe player. Clearly pace isn't a priority for the club if they are trading him out. The Swans and the Pies got us on the outside because they were less banged up and were fitter than us. They could run faster for longer. The Cats didn't get us on the outside when we played them at Kardina Park - but come finals they too were fitter and less banged up than us. And crucially all three teams have better kicks than us, which in the Pies and Swans case meant they could go through the corridor more often. And in doing so move the ball quickly - and look fast as a result. We lost our ability late in games to cover the corridor kick and spread, the Cats didn't and consequently smashed the Swans. Who by the by, looked incredibly slow in the GF - in part because they couldn't hit targets under the pressure of a GF and in part because they had, like us, clearly hit the wall physically.

  7. If we trade pick 27 for Grundy that is a huge steal. Reading the salty Pies comments on social media justifies this.

  8. Weller for pick 2 has to be up there?

  9. My god. Whitfield would be a dream in our side. Opposite wing to Langdon or give him a half-back Nick Daicos role. Probably way out of our thinking/cap but if we landed him and Grundy this year plus hit the draft with a top 8 pick we'd be laughing. And I'd be laughing. All the way to the 2023 flag.

  11. A straight swap for Bedford and one of these two. Yes, ridiculous, but I wanted to be the first goose to suggest it - an AFL 'journo' in the making.

  12. Reading the hypothetical trades here I think people are going to be very disappointed with the final outcome - WC 2 and F1st - you cannot be serious! Jackson and OUR F1st for 2 and 26 is more likely than that. Maybe we could convert our F1st into a late 1st this year to keep WC in this year's 1st round. I know it doesn't sound fair when we're losing a pick 3 who has shown the goods and two teams are competing for his services, but that's the way it is when players want out. The Lever trade is the benchmark.

  14. West Coast are making far too many moves and gestures to be a team that doesn't believe they're a legitimate trade option for Luke Jackson.

  16. It's pretty obvious what @binman is saying. That when we move the ball quickly, we are quick. Quick ball movement is much more effective than running the ball quickly...

  21. We did? I thought we were ordinary in just about all of those games, relied on our backline and defensive grid stone walling teams and generally put them away with a burst of pressure/contest stuff they couldn’t handle. Apart from the GWS Witches Hats we didn’t have anything like a complete performance in the first 10 weeks and our ball movement was stagnate in most games. That said, speed really wasn’t an issue. Run and creativity were the problems.

  22. I asked if we were fast last year. You said that we were not a fast side, even if we looked fast at times. It's your criteria I'm asking for, as I asked if we were a fast team last year. Rather than waiting for your answer, I'll preempt it to save myself time. Speed is not just how many running bounces you take, or how you operate in open space. Just because we don't play the expansive game of Collingwood, it doesn't mean that we don't play fast football. We would be one of, if not the top, team for defensive speed. This means that we use our speed to make games less open and less free flowing. Why would we do this? Because we have Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Viney, Brayshaw and a bunch of gun tall defenders. When we can force the team into contests we will probably win, so we use our fast players to use that speed defensively to shut down space and rebound before the opposition gets a chance to escape our defensive squeeze. Being a fast team isn't just about being Peter Matera down the wing, it can also be Kozzie, Spargo and ANB immediately running out to the far pocket after a turnover to prevent a switch kick.

  23. I suggest you re-watch it, and tell us which plays Jackson was instrumental in. He was involved in some, but it was primarily due to our mids winning contested possession, and the Dogs players fumbling or falling over at inopportune times. And even if he was largely instrumental, 15 minutes isn't a good measurement of a players quality. Zaine Cordy had an impactful 2016 GF, and hasn't amounted to much.

  25. To be fair Dazzle, Dogga has been hampered by a knee injury for most of this year and he is still learning at 20. How many other 200cm big men have got to his level this early in their career? Very, very few I think Freo's pitch to play him as a mid next to Darcy in the middle is an amazing possibility for them

  27. What the [censored] has leadership got to do with it ? We've got good leaders! We want Grundy to play good footy . Simples !!!

  28. Collingwood wanted a pick inside 25 for Grundy. With Brisbane acquiring 21 & 25 today, pick 27 will likely slide up to 25 after Brisbane match bids. No need to do any extra work to give Collingwood a better pick, we’ve effectively met the asking price.

  29. Thanks Jimmy, Disappointing Gunston decided to go to Brisbane. Behind the scenes we went hard. Apparently, he had some family or something in Brisbane. Unfortunately, I have nothing at the moment. I have not spoken to anyone from the club for a number of weeks. However, in saying that I like the way the trade period is unfolding for us. We seem to be working to a plan. Make no mistake we are working towards much more than just good draft picks from Jackson and getting Grundy. Just not sure who it is we are targeting outside a contracted KPF. As far as that player goes, I have no idea how things are going but there has been a small amount of speculation in the press in the last week. Cheers!

  30. Why? They can still offer 8, which is more than Freo have this year. And if they get an extra 2023 1st, they'll be able to trade it

  31. Few permutations could come out of Bowes to Geelong. -Geelongs incoming 7 to freo for 13 and kangas future 2nd -Freos 7 and future first to Melbourne for Jackson Geelong will then have 13, 18 and kangas future 2nd which should facilitate deals for Bruhn and Henry easy enough, even if they throw their future 1st back to Suns. Depends if they want to take 7 to the draft or not I guess.

  33. There's two big issues with Whitfield (assuming he's over running away from ASADA testing). The first is that he's on a massive Brodie Grundy like contract. The second is we'd need to have a thorough medical investigation. He hasn't looked right since coming back from a very serious illness and I'm not sure whether that will impact his footy into the future.

  34. Cal Twomey reporting if the Hopper to Tigers deal can't get done, the giants would be open to trading Whitfield. He would be exactly the player we need and we could place him on the opposite wing as Langdon for some class and run. Could trade Bedford and a couple of picks/players to get that done. One can only hope.

  35. No he's ruck depth now and he'll play if Max or Brodie miss. He's a must keep IMO.

  36. I have a high degree of faith that Bedford will be a better player than Bobby Hill. He kicked 9 goals this year despite really only playing 6 games. ANB & Spargo kicked the same number despite playing 22. He's of very high output in what is arguably the most difficult position on the ground. He's of very high character & work ethic and that's evident in his development so far, as he was extremely raw on arrival as a NGA prospect. It would also be very clear to GWS having interviewed him. Very coachable, dedicated to improvement, and if I think back as far as the "hell & back' videos, he was in there doing extras to try and set an example for a very raw Kozzie despite probably knowing Kozzie was going to take his spot in the AFL side. Billy Stretch also had all of these attributes, but had limited points of difference on the field. Nonetheless he had an OK career and on another day could have continued playing AFL in a good team. Bedford has points of difference with his pure speed and goalsense. Bobby Hill by contrast was highly touted, has shown flashes and undoubtedly has more natural talent, but I'm not convinced he is of particularly high character or work ethic. He has pushed through some personal difficulties which is admirable. Assuming a player has some points of difference, hard work beats talent every time. I think this is where the FD is coming from and why they're upset to lose him. Lamb's body language noticeably fell in the Monday press conference when Bedford was brought up. Having said all that it's unlikely we get something in the 30s for him. It's an ordinary outcome as we're selling at the exact wrong time - on the precipice of breaking into the team and really upping his worth. I suspect if this was an end of 23 conversation, he'd be up for a 2nd/3rd rounder at least.

  37. Because they only have to have a better deal than Freo.

  38. If no club in the top 5-8 picks is willing to trade and move down , Freo at least need at bare minimum to give us their pick 13, future 1st round (Freo) and future 2nd rd (NMFC).

  39. Even if I blissfully bicycled around Amsterdam all day and hung out in coffee shops getting legally high, I reckon id still log onto demonland every hour in trade week to see if the dees had done any deals Doubley so if someone legitimate posted a rumour about a key forward we've been linked to! What's that quote "Wherever you go, there you are"

  41. At the moment GWS have draft picks 3, 12, 19, 21, 44, 61 and 63 and will clearly be getting in more picks for Hopper - potentially 31 this year and others next year (plus they already have an additional 2nd round pick next). So there's no need for us to do anymore than wait for the Giants to finish the Hopper deal, see what picks/players they get to see how many draft picks they'll actually use. By my count they've had 4 players (on the senior list) go out, with another to go, but potentially 1 to come back in. So there likely to only use 4 draft picks, so one of 19, 21, 31 or 44 will be useless to them, let alone 61 & 63. So were in a position to aim for a good deal for Bedford, I'd like to upgrade 27 further to say pick 19 and have the Pies pay even more of Grundy's wage.

  43. My wild theory only, Bedford got an earworm from someone about being the bridesmaid at Melbourne whilst we had plans for him this year. We were caught on the hop and really really dont want him to go. Only two ways to explain the language being used between us and GWS who we normally just get on with and resolve trades. The alternative is we genuinely think he is worth a lot more than 43. If he fell into the PSD there would be quite a few interested parties and I doubt he would want to take pot luck. As I said a wild theory.

  44. If West Coast had half a bit of serious interest then they would pony up and offer Pick 2 otherwise sod off and let the grown ups deal.

  45. Well if true there goes the threat. Freo can just do the deal now that I have posted, by clearing Lobb to Dogs and they then have all the needed picks to get the deal done. The Eagles, if serious, can put pick 2 on the table along with something else like their F1st and it’s done. Eagles need to stop screwing around with their threat of splitting 2 and giving us only one of the two picks they get. I hope LJ has told the two clubs he will return to us if deal not done.
