  1. Why can't we be gracious and appreciate his time in our beloved red and blue. For mine he will be my favourite opp player! Hope it all goes well for you, Jayden. Will miss you, your flair and your feistiness!.

  2. I’m so glad I don’t live in a world where a player can only be a star or a spud and there’s absolutely nothing in between.

  3. Your evaluation of Hunt is way off the mark which is evidenced by the fact WCE have offered him a three year deal and apparently 3 other clubs asked about him. If he was as poor as you suggest he'd attract no interest, but in fact the opposite is true. Jayden is a competent AFL footballer but is worth more to others than us. Why you have to denigrate someone who has played over 100 games for us and given his all is beyond me and says more about you than perhaps you want us to see.

  4. Petty played only 18 of the possible 24 games. On an 'average votes/game' basis he came 7th rather than 15th on a 'total votes' basis.

  5. What a [censored] comment. The guy coached us to our first flag in 57 years and we are still very much in the window Goody's done far more walking than talking

  6. There’s an awful lot of people who seem to love to criticise everything the club does. We don’t turn over the list! No one wants to come to us! Why are we allowing this player to leave! Why are we recruiting that guy! Have a little faith. Our winning percentage over the last few years is insanely good, and we have an excellent track record of recruiting and trading well. I honestly don’t know how some of you survived as Melbourne supporters. This is the best team, and club culture, I’ve seen in my lifetime.

  7. Wishing Jayden all the very best. Have always loved him in the red and blue.

  8. Spoke separately with two people with completely different backgrounds and both were very positive about Noah Yze’s future prospects. One to definitely watch in 2024.

  9. There's some classic red and blue goggles going on in Demonland as usual hey? Now that Jackson has requested a trade apparently his worth has gone down, and at the same time people are expecting some kind of mega bargain for Grundy. It's just not how the Dees operate in the trade period - we get things done with not much fuss. We gave up pick 6 for May (and KK), nearly 27 at the time, never All-Australian. Granted it's a different situation given the contract, but the point is we had a specified target and got it done. Grundy is a 28 year old 2x AA, 2x Copeland winner, and with Freo's first rounder next year likely to be somewhere around 13-15 it's not a ridiculous trade, (with some later pick swaps probably in the mix) even more so when you consider Collingwood will be paying a third of his wage. There seems to be a perception on Demonland that we're doing this deal just for the sake of it due to the salary dump and expecting a bargain, but IMO it seems obvious this is a targeted trade like we usually do when we address a need.

  10. Pretty good top 5. We’re very lucky to live in this timeline.

  11. This is rubbish. A bunch of loud angry people here wanted him gone. And it's pretty clear that those people are reactive and not analytical, with the only common detraction from Goodwin being that he doesn't throw players around into random positions as a "plan B", which is some kind of weird 80s nostalgia because it simply doesn't happen at any club.

  12. Pretty cheap for a 2x AA, 2x BnF ruck I would have thought tbh. How much do you reckon we would have been paying Jackson next year?

  13. We can only speculate on ‘why’ but he had done great moments playing for us. I’m just going to remember him blasting out of defence with Langers using the old give and get. I’ll also always remember that 70 meter torp for a goal against Adelaide. Hee always seemed like a pretty relaxed, good guy. I wish him so the best at WC with the usual caveat - not against us

  14. His brain is and that’s worth more than pace and a rare commodity. I think Jayden has left NOT because of money and contract length but because Goody and the footy department have said he wont play much senior footy next year. WCE on the other hand have offered him a regular AFL spot. It’s probably combined with more money and a longer contract but Jayden will want to play senior footy. In summary it’s all three things but the primary reason is he wants to play AFL footy.

  15. Hunt was a very good contributor since he was drafted. He gave his all for the club and will be missed by many. One of the few players in our team that would get the crowd buzzing when he’d go on one of his runs.

  16. Jordon wasn't dropped, he was clearly hampered by his knee injury from r19.

  17. Oliver's football resume to date: -3× All Australian -4× Best and Fairest -2× AFLCA player of the year -Premiership player It's insane to think that this guy is barely half way through his career.

  18. Seeing ANB come 8th in the B&F this year, would be enough to make anyone competing for his position want to depart.

  19. Fair based on the amount he has played. But an absolute waste from an MFC perspective. Develop him up for a few years, to then not give him a decent opportunity when he is ready for AFL is a real head scratcher for me.

  20. I watched some of the stream but it dragged on too long. I was also disappointed that they didn't show more of the audience as I was hoping to see @WalkingCivilWar. I reckon she would have been easily identifiable . A deranged looking ranga with an autograph book the size of The Pink Pages and blinding all with the constant flash of irritating selfies.

  21. I really enjoyed watching Jayden play and there was always a spark of excitement when he took off on a run or teamed with Lingers with linking handballs up the wing. I'll miss him in red and blue and wish him all the best in the west. But I think it's the right decision by the club. I think the club has decided that Jayden is not the lock-down defender we need and are going forward with Hibbo and Joel Smith sharing the role over the next two years, with Joel Smith re-contracted with an increased offer over that period to ward off Sydney. Hibbo and Joel will both be cheaper and shorter than Jayden's offer at West Coast. We need to free list spots and salary cap over the next two years and we have a set of fringe players that we don't want to contract beyond that period. Those looking for value in the compensation pick - likely to be 3rd round 51 - will be disappointed but that's not the goal.

  22. Yes that makes sense. He signs a 7 year deal because they love him and really want and need him. 2 years later after doing the same to a team mate, they tell him he can take a large pay cut, or is free to look around, as they need to adjust their salary cap. He now feels he has been lied to and gets angry with them. He sees the writing on the wall and meets the Dees and is impressed. He tells the Pies I am disappointed with you, but will leave, but go only to the Dees, if you can do a deal with them and I get my full contract pay, otherwise I stay. That is how I see the scenario playing out.

  24. Would have had a Brownlow this year if the bloke who is apparently now the next Ghandi hadn't kicked him in the hand...
    7 points
  25. Without a doubt. By 2030 he could well be a 7 time B&F, Brownlow medalist, 4 time coaches award winner and most importantly a 3 time premiership player. That’s definitely not beyond the realms of possibility. Only injuries stand between him and immortality in this game.

  27. I think we try trade our 2nd round selection (32) with Bedford for GWS 2nd round selection (21) Works out to roughly pick 49 for Bedford which i think is fair.

  28. I will miss the Running Headband and i wish Jayden all the best. I am glad he has another Contract in AFL. In 7 Seasons he played some great footy for us, but he never nailed a position and he was obviously near the edge of the 22 named. Last year he was dead stiff and it is sad, but these situations happen every year in Footy. Hunty is a Demon always, but we need to keep improving. Hopefully Bedford can step up at 22 Good Luck Jayden

  29. I wonder whether Amartey at the Swans is gettable. At 197cm, he has so much upside… great pair of hands, ability to ruck when needed, good kick; has looked very good on the rare occasions he got to fill a vacancy in the Swans side.

  30. This is the ranking based on average per game played. Our voting system scores a player our of 40 for each game. So only the top 5 got a pass ie >20 votes per game. I doubt our coaches would be shy about giving a player 0 in a game which clearly would bring the average down. Looks like a lot of 0 to 2 votes during the year. The biggest surprise for me is Lever. He didn't have a good year but I didn't think it was that bad, especially as he had to shore up the defence in May's absence, Petty out injured and he himself played many games injured.

  31. But good enough to play in the majority of games?? Just quietly we would NOT have won vs Carltank without him!

  32. I had heard this before but just googled it to find the attribution. A famous quote from Green Bay Packer glory years defensive tackle Henry Jordan referring to his coach Vince Lombardi, “Lombardi treated us all the same, like dogs.”

  33. I do get a bit confused about the obsession with height for KPFs. Georgiades is listed at 192 which is the same as Curnow (who is 3cm shorter than Cripps).

  34. I think Brayshaw's move to the backline sealed Hunt's fate going into 2023. Gus was in AA form and most likely would of been awarded the AA if he hadn't moved back into the midfield. Our 3 tall key defenders are a lock in May, Lever and Petty and add to that Salem, Hibberd, Brayshaw with the 7th defender being one of Bowey or Rivers, it's hard to see Hunt playing ahead of any of those guys. I could be wrong, but this is maybe why Baker might sign on for another year on a low wage of around $200k who has similar abilities. Whereas Hunt would command around $350-$450k if he left Melbourne and this would be Hunt's last big contract for his career so it's a win win for both. Hunt leaves on a bigger and longer contract, while Melbourne free's up cap space of around $200k.

  35. Add 150 more games, maybe a Brownlow, another 2 B&F and another 3xAA (excluding all his Premiership medals) and much as I hate to say it...move over Robbie Flower. That Gawn and Petracca are in the same team at the same time is nuts. We have to win at least one more premiership and hopefully 2-3 more with these guys in our team.

  36. Goody: Winning after winning Tough and brutal competition We finished 2nd but in the end after the finals, disappointly if hurt Wanted to do it for Melbourne faithful and enjoy a win at the MCG Aim to create winning behavior and culture of success Last 2 weeks analyzing what needs improvement +10 consecutive wins +growth and premiership of Casey (!!!) Mark Corrigan ✅ ways to get better - culture and game style and adding VFL talent Need to put pieces together to get back to the top thank you to 65000 members in the words of “Neale Daniher” … ‘Become a person of value’.

  37. So did Frost, but the club was happy to let him go in the name of cleaning up back half turnovers (which were a bigger problem then than now tbf), so I wonder if this could be similar in a way?

  39. 100% If the Dees make you a pitch and you think it would be a great place to play your footy, we have a reputation among players and managers that we will make that deal happen quickly and painlessly. It makes it easy to decide to switch and easy to buy in to a club that demonstrates that it will act in your best interests.

  40. I agree the time is now and I think with the addition of Grundy, return of TMac and rise of JVR we're OK for tall forward targets over the next two years. There's no better options currently on the market unless you want to offer McStay 6 years. Ideally we'll draft a KPF prospect and line up a big FA or trade for 2025 so we can continue the Dynasty through to the end of the decade.

  41. I like him and I’m sorry to see him go if that pans out. I loved the hair/headband/sleeves combo he had going with Langdon. I was going to suggest that’s the end of BT, Derwayne and co mixing them up, but I’m willing to bet some overpaid nuffie in the commentary box still calls Lingers “Hunt” at least once in 2023. I was really hoping he’d get the chance for the 2022 flag to atone for his disappointment in 2021. As others have said though, I think the decision makes sense for both parties. All the best Jayden.

  42. Some want to pay nothing for Grundy, some pick 30 or worse, others are accepting we may have to use a late first round pick. The deal will get done, both clubs will say they are happy and Grundy will say he is happy to be with us, as we wanted him and we are very professional. DL will continue discussing whether it was a good/bad deal and whether we should have got him in the first place. A new issue will eventually take over on DL and the sun will rise tomorrow.

  43. Just watched the couple of videos uploaded by the club from last night and the first thought is that Kate Roffey is all class. Consider how she spoke about Dogga moving back west in comparison to how Adelaide spat the dummy at Rick Lever.

  45. Nah. It doesn't work well for us. You can't salary dump a player and expect a first round pick in exchange. The media have pushed that narrative and a second round pick is more than enough.
