  1. I'm just glad it's not at Crown this year, which means I can bring my little bag of crushed up anti-inflammatory powder.

  2. Closest to the pin for newspaper headline when the trade is completed? "Grun-dee" "It's a Grun deal" "Unicorn out, pony in" All horrible but you can't win if you don't buy a ticket..

  5. I'd be sad to loose Hunt. Rode out and survived some of the hard times at the club and sadly missed out on 2021 by getting injured just at the wrong time. Seems like a genuine and likable character around the club, totally without any obnoxious excess ego. I do rate his abilities as a footballer, but I feel that neither the MFC or Jayden have ever quite extracted his full capabilities on a consistent basis. Having said that, no team has 100% superstars 100% of the time, but I thought Jayden usually played with good effort, courage and toughness for a guy of his build. Had a bad start to 2022, but battled hard to win his way back into the team in the later part of the season. His last quarter against Carlton this year was an absolute ripper and showed what he can be at his best taking on the game with pace and dare. It would be somewhat odd for a guy that's battled his whole career at a struggling club on the rise that's now at the pointy end of the league to go backwards to a cellar dweller. I guess he must have his own reasons and motivations, which is fair enough. Would rather he stayed, but respect Jayden wherever this may land.

  6. 100% agree, BB is another one who people have jumped on and is undeserving. He carried our fwd line all year playing a lone hand without any help. constantly having defends drop of in front of him because they know that's the percentage play. Often having one arm held out of contests and being crashed into, No wonder he was banged up at the end of the year. The value of having 2 fit talls in our fwd line will take a massive load of him. Who knows, maybe even Weid could thrive in that set up too.

  7. Clarry has won the Bluey in more seasons than he hasn't... 4 out of 7. What an absolute legend of the club.

  11. You do realise Richmond solved their biggest deficiency with almost the best KPF in the game by adding Tom Lynch after missing their first back to back? And that he was crucial in getting them over the line in the PF that year, and in several finals series since? That's the position we are in now and at the moment it doesn't look like we will be resolving our (same) weakness in the same way I don't mind Grundy, but we're kidding ourselves if we think the same forward line is going to take us all the way next year. JVR better be bloody special to come in and be a KPF in a prem team in year 1. While I'm at it - Richmond added Short, Baker and Pickett to their GF team in 2019. They used 2018 and 2019 to introduce new players to the team who went on to become crucial cogs. Short of Bedford coming in and out and rotating veterans like Melk and Hunt, we don't look close to doing the same and picked the premiership 22 even when their form or fitness did not justify it Also, Richmond were clearly the best team in 2018 but blew up a PF. We were not in 2022 and went out in straight sets. I think the situations are quite different and for you to make an example of what they did is less relevant than you think

  12. I actually think that is a good effort, when you have 3 blokes hanging off you at every contest and it's not kicked to you once, but bombed high into the left pocket.

  16. 100% If the Dees make you a pitch and you think it would be a great place to play your footy, we have a reputation among players and managers that we will make that deal happen quickly and painlessly. It makes it easy to decide to switch and easy to buy in to a club that demonstrates that it will act in your best interests.

  19. Personally I think Brown and TMac are largely cooked and if we're building our 2023 forward line around them we may just be as well. I'd suggest the club can't let Weideman go because we need 2 solid targets in the forward line and it's possible he'll be one of them. Maybe JVR will be the other but lets reserve judgement until we know he's actually up to being an AFL grade key forward! If the club aren't chasing a key forward such as Georgiades I'd be very surprised. Both Brown and TMac are running on borrowed time but who knows they may kick 100 goals between them in 2023

  20. Two separate injuries. Ankle and leg. Not chronic. Will be starting preseason untroubled.

  21. So Dogga how you settling in out West. Gee Hunty wish I'd stayed at the dees. Yer me to Dogga. And that's just the first show.

  22. We can't do it in the same way as there are no KPF available let alone free agents as Lynch was. You can't just conjure up a forward like Lynch from out of nowhere. ...so we take a different approach.

  23. Assuming he is fit, the other thing that Grundy would bring is his athleticism and the kms he can cover in a game. Tmac was a massive out in terms of being a genuine second tall. But as big a factor was losing his up and down the ground running. With our method, most players have to run upwards of 10 kms a game. Get tmac fit and bring in Grundy, that's two big players covering 25kms a game. Throw in BB and Max (if fit) and that's another two genuine bigs getting to contests.

  26. You have a fake million dollars, what do you spend it on? Mitch Georgiadis? No. Instead i’d spend the fake million on a time machine, go back to 1986, move the Hawkins family to Alice Springs, wait for Tom’s arrival in 1988, keep him away from everyone, and pick him up for nothing through our academy. Bang! 15 years of a gun forward. If you’re going to get theoretical why not get weirdly, deeply theoretical?

  29. Agree that we should be pushing to make sure we don't get screwed, but every time we 'play nice' and make it smooth for a player to come to us, or to leave us, it makes us that little bit more desirable for other players to come our way. A lot of young key forwards would be thinking they could make their mark at Melbourne as the missing piece, and we want them having a warm fuzzy feeling any time they think of us!

  30. His contracts have been for 2 years at time. I would be surprised if he was on $400k at the dees or if he gets that at WCE. Sometimes we fans over estimate a player's salary e.g Freo reportedly offered Blake Acres a two year contract of $200-$300 p.a. Carlton offered $350k for three years. Not wishing to compare the players more giving an example of some salary realities for 'journeymen'.

  31. Lorraine at the bottom expects 16 wins plus 2 finals wins. Just for context Lorraine - 16 wins would have you top 2, so add the 2 finals wins and you’ll be in the grand final! Oh Lorraine. May your heart be broken by May.

  37. You’re right Dub. I’m heartbroken at the thought of him leaving. My only consolation is that it’s not Essendon or Collingwood who’ll get him. On the positive side though, I can still wear my guernsey with 29 on the back since my fave AFLW player is Eden Zanker, and she’s no. 29. 😁

  39. He played every game up to round 22 and got injured. However despite being finally fit for the GF, it was clear that MFC and Goody weren’t going to change the team through a winning finals campaign.

  42. Yep, wasn't great in 2020, but was very good in 2021 (lead the league in hitouts). But your argument was he had barely played for 2 years and you seemed to suggest he was injury prone. Bloke has averaged nearly 18 games a year through his career, which is massive considering he only played 7 in his first year and 6 this year. The injury argument is just not correct. For comparison, Gawn has averaged 15 games per year over his career.
