  3. Im gutted.Read the news last night before bed and couldnt sleep for ages. Im only 18 months or so older than him but have already had a heart attack (more than 10 yeras ago) which i was fortunate enough to live through. Not about me though, im sorta just saying that things like these remind you how fragile life is. I loved that he never wasted a moment of his life worrying about being P.C. He was himself from day 1 until the end. Still cant believe it. Rest in peace Legend.

  4. I was in London the day Warnie Bowled Gatting with THAT ball It was incredible, he became a hero overnight London was just in shock. Cabbies would be talking at you, just shaking their heads Proud to be a Victorian, i will never forget that time in 1993

  5. In terms of representing Australia (and Victoria) we owe Warnie a debt of gratitude. His contribution to the game was huge. His innate brilliance changed spin bowling like nothing else. Murali will miss his mate 😔

  6. Some of the greats exceed the sport they play. Jordan in basketball. Peter Brock in V8 car racing. Tiger Woods in golf. Federer in tennis. I will put my hand up as a test cricket tragic - loving it with a passion equal to following the Dees. Warne was on a different plane to all others. To watch him bowl you sat forward on your chair trying to see which small nuance of change he was implementing, or which batsman he was out thinking/outmanouvering. He was magnetic, brilliant, belligerent, joyful. He gambled, whored, smoked, ate rubbish food, dyed his red hair blonde, and messed up his family. His commentary was insightful, brutally honest and uncompromising. As for his cricket, it was the closest thing to perfection you could see. Possibly best summed up by quoting the poet John Keats: "A thing of beauty is a joy forever".

  7. Wasn’t that awesome to watch. Stinear has our team playing exhilarating footy a la the boys, highly entertaining. Moving from Fremantle oval to Optus Stadium was a win for us, our skills in windless conditions excelled. Also Meggs wanted everyone to know that Freo had a few late withdrawals due to Covid as you may not have heard… Hoping Zanker is ok as we need her on ball and second ruck work. It’s either Scotty or Parry and Demonland prefers Shelley over Jacqui. West and Purcell have allowed Paxy to play wing and it works better. Our multi-faceted forward line has kicked the highest score on AFLW history. It will be our 2022 finals weapon! Collingwood to upset Adelaide tomorrow and we finish on top with a potential grand final at Casey…Meggs likes the sound of that. ps we still need to defeat Carlton next week at Casey Fields.

  8. First to crack ton, highest ever score, highest ever winning margin, biggest quarter, Daisy most goals by a demon. GO DEMONS!!!!

  9. All the short hit ups look so easy, but that's because Harris is automatic as a long one on one target, so teams drop off to protect it. Harris has been an incredible structural addition this year.

  11. Best performance I’ve ever seen from any AFLW team! I so much want us to be AFL and AFLW champions, and this is becoming real possibility. It seems to be coming together at the pointy end of the season for our AFLW team, just as it did for our men in 2021.

  12. First team to ever crack 100 points in an AFLW game. Congrats ladies, you've made history. Great game to watch all round.

  15. Dockers gave completely stopped. Time to break aflw record score if 94, set what last week over the eagles. Optus has become the home away from home for the dees.

  16. That's the most polished half of football that I've ever seen from our AFLW team. Keep it up girls!

  18. When Toby Greene returns, umpires will simply have him stand the mark 50m back by default to avoid the hassle.

  19. Following the AFL’s determination that players can’t express their opinions on decisions to the umps anymore, it was reported on the radio this morning that a club has instructed its players not to say anything to them at all. Though that could be problematic at the coin toss, maybe we’ll see some interpretive dance? If this is the path the AFL really wants to take, they should instruct the umpires to revert back to referring to players by their numbers not their names and stop pretending they’re best mates with the players.

  20. His first wicket was R Shastri, caught in the outfield by DM Jones. He changed the game before our very eyes. We knew he was special and we were so, so lucky to see it. He’s been ever present for 30 years and it just doesn’t feel right that he’s gone, just like that. Vale Warney. Will never see his like again.

  21. In disbelief. Thanks for all the golden memories Shane. 52 years old ..so young 😔 Can’t help thinking about a verse from Neil young’s “ hey hey my my” when I think on this. “..The king is gone but he’s not forgotten. This is the story of johnny rotten. It’s better to burn out than it is to fade away… hey hey my my”

  22. WTF. Flat out wrong to say Smith has no pace. He is one of our fastest (behind Hunt) and his closing speed to spoil etc is one of his strengths. He has many weaknesses but it is ridiculous to say he doesn’t have pace.

  23. And his larrikin shtick hid a brilliant tactical mind. It was a great shame h was never made an Australian skipper. Shocking. Two years younger than me.

  24. Woke up this morning and saw an IG post by Titus O'Reily that said "Heaven's scorecard. C: Marsh B: Warne." I was confused. Googled Shane Warne's name and WOW. In total shock. When he bowled it was must watch cricket.

  35. Getting a little fraught in here. We've all forgotten what losing was like! All things told it's not a bad thing - touched up in the middle, taught some umpiring lessons, got miles in the legs, no injuries, exposed some depth, and still only had a narrow loss. I'm glad we didn't pinch it (although Carlton fan's devastation would have made my week - they celebrated this win hard). We were never going to just Romp to a 2nd flag. We have a good shot but it's going to be a hard journey and we'll need luck as we had last year. Let's see how it folds out. We have a strong team, can expect close to a win every week - that's a great thing and it should be a fun year of going to the footy.

  36. Isn’t Casey Fields the toughest road trip, we’ve won the last 12? Adelaide beat Freo at Fremantle oval last week and we won there in Round 8 last year but this game is at Optus Stadium, home of a recent and famous drought-breaking Demons triumph. If we have any designs on winning tonight we will need to be a lot tougher than we were against Adelaide at Norwood Oval recently. Meggs will be glued to the tv tonight and has high hopes for a supreme effort, loves the ins and reckons we can win.

  37. Next to Richard Hadlee, my favourite bowler to watch, ever. Riveting. For all the tabloid waffle, seemed to live like he really loved life, and had a reputation for being the most generous competitor on the playing field. RIP…

  38. Really disappointed that the report doesn't mention the couple of Casey Demons VFL listed players who kicked goals. This is a team game and it represents the Casey Demons. Club reports on these games should respect this fact and acknowledge the Casey players. Let's not forget that one of our best players in our premiership team and again last night, was originally a Casey VFL listed player.

  39. Whilst different ‘characters’ it also explains why Gawn is universally admired. Max is a true original who isn’t afraid to be himself. He also encourages this trait in others and that makes you like him even more

  40. At the Coterie season launch last Friday night Mike Sheehan interviewed Goodwin. Right up front Mike addressed the media issue and leaks etc and how Goodwin and club were handling perosnally over the last few weeks. Goodwin said "...We all know where the leak came from..." and I've move on type of response after that quote, the journalist in question didn't even call me for a quote/comment. etc. He seems to have had great support and Roffey in her speech had a quiet level of fury and contempt at the articles and intent. She can be on my side anytime in a fight. Lots of people in the room were nodding, so maybe most insiders know and lets get o with 2022. maybe I was the only one in the room that didn't know.

  42. Luci, after listening twice, nowhere did Pert say the perpetrator has left the club. That’s just a conclusion that the posters on here have drawn (which may yet turn out to be correct), but we shouldn’t be putting words into Perts mouth that he didn’t say.

  43. He was more than just a brilliant cricketer. He has left a lasting legacy in that he was responsible for the renewed interest in leg spin. Who could forget “That” ball?! A leg break delivery from another planet! And for the scalp of Mike Gatting, no less. Kids at grassroots level (and adults, of course) are still reaping the benefits of having experienced his magic. Incidentally, I heard Gatting is still walking around in discombobulation to this day. 😉

  44. Huge shock. Condolences to his family and to all those fortunate enough to be considered his friend. A larger than life character with an immense cricket brain and a unique talent, that will be sorely missed. RIP SK Warne.
