  8. Just saw it was because people couldn’t keep politics out of a footy forum. Pity, I really enjoyed @binman description of contemporary cultural dialogue. It was one of the most eloquent things I’ve ever read on here. Anyways, back to gloating about the flag please.

  16. Thanks for that. I have a grandson who plays basketball in a similar age bracket but is slightly younger. For a number of years his team has been competing with an opposition team made up predominantly of Sudanese players who play a pretty exciting style of game. They all seem to be thin and lanky with the ability to move cat-like across the court but are often found out for a lack of endurance and have been reeled in from a fair way behind in some of their matches. I don’t know much about physiology but was told that this is fairly typical of people coming from arid regions in that part of the world. Therefore, in looking at Mac Andrew’s football, one of my concerns was his tank. In the game vs Geelong for the Academy he was unsighted for three quarters and went okay in the last. In the challenge match for Country vs Metro, he had a purple patch in the second quarter but faded out of the game from midway through the third quarter. The draft experts who talk about the need for him to add weight and strength to compete physically in the ruck don’t appear to have addressed whether he can run out a game and by missing the national championships and the combine that question wasn’t answered for us. One would think that interested clubs like GWS and Fremantle would be all over this.

  21. I never usually bet on the cup but did because of the colours and our ex captain was the jockey which I have never heard of an ex afl player doing before. he must of lost heaps of weight. Anyway thanks everyone I had 25 each way on the red n blue. What a good thing that was.

  23. He looks so awkward and gangly most of the time, with elbows and knees out of alignment with his arms and legs, a jerky running style, and looks to be out of position. I have to admit that at times, watching him play makes me want to look elsewhere due to the lack of smoothness. But he has 3 traits I just love: He attempts to mark the ball at the highest point of his leap, the one thing defenders find difficult to combat, and even makes it difficult for the third man up trying to spoil. When he is looking awkward and out of position, he gets an arm in here, his body in there, runs across someone ensuring the ball comes to ground: he does something to try and get the ball to ground. He leads in a straight line, demanding the ball. Half the time he has concrete hands, but his leading is a thing of beauty. And stuff me, I can not for the life of me figure out why North were so keen on letting him go. We can build a very powerful forward line around this bloke for the next 3 years.

  24. My wife and I have watched that 3rd quarter sequence and last quarter every day since the granny as well as the post game celebrations plus all the highlights reels as well. It has truely been a memorable month that our boys have made possible for us all. Those last 16 goals were exceptional and have been burnt into my memory for ever.

  25. Still seething that we allowed those single final quarter goals to Geelong in the PF and Footscray in the GF 😮. Need to be more ruthless 🤗

  26. I’m glad it won’t be an issue for us because if whoever takes him in the draft expects him to one day compete with Max Gawn and Luke Jackson without the energy to run out a game the way they do (after he’s increased his body weight by another 25%) then they’ve got another thing coming. 😀 On that note, it’s time to take another look at the last quarter and a half of the 2021 Grand Final!

  29. I just watched the last quarter again and yet again I cried when the final siren sounded. Hearing our song burst out around the ground and seeing our boys doing the stacks-on thing and the unbridled joy, and this overwhelming feeling of relief and pride and gratitude (somebody slap me) it’s like nothing else on Earth. This will NEVER EVER get old.

  31. He is the kind of forward that is better in a potent forward line contesting and kicking 2-3 goals a game rather than a solo focal point in a poor side kicking 4-5 a game. He demands a dedicated opponent which stretches defences and opens up other goal avenues.

  37. The scary thing is our forward line is still a work in progress. Everyone has their role but that changes from week to week depending on match ups and structures. BBB will be much more consistent next year.

  38. He has to be the most universally loved player who was never a superstar or particularly high profile. If Jordan De Goey is one end of the spectrum then Nev sits comfortably at the opposite end. Love him.

  39. Happy Cup Day all! Here's another highlight reel, this time its Tom McDonald, who following the retirement of Nathan Jones, is now the most experienced player on our list.

  40. I watched the last quarter again too. 2 new things stood out. Jackos kick on goal - when it left the boot the pack got ready to contest/spoil then just stopped as it sailed through. The ball gets extra lift at that ground? Adem Yzes head - it is enormous.

  44. Ben Brown marking it at full stretch above his head is truly one of the great football sights, right alongside things like the Dusty don't argue, the Liam Ryan speccy, the Charlie Cameron dribbler, the Langdon gut run, the Viney tackle, the Petracca burst from a stoppage, the Oliver handpass, the Rich kick inside 50, the Lever intercept, the May spoil, the Jackson followup, and Gawn ruck tap. The fact than Melbourne players feature so heavily in that list just shows the quality of our best players, and the point of difference they all have.

  46. Could be the key to back to back premierships. Our home and away forward line was hit and miss but got the job done. A solid contribution from BB in 2022 could be just that little thing that explodes our forward line. Great finals series. Thanks Ben

  47. He played very well in the finals particularly in the last 45 minutes of the Grand Final and had improved his synergy with Bayley Fritsch in the later part of the season. I think he will be even better in 2022 because he has now some understanding how the other forwards interact with him. At one stage during the GF he was playing as the CHF and not gave them a target but made the play. If you look at his involment in the Petracca goal in the 3rd quarter his kick was virtually so deep it got to the back of the pack for Pickett and Petracca to be 2 on 1 with Dunkley. Lots of people questioned whether he would come back to his pre-2020 form and could modify his game to fit into the 3 talls Demons forward line, well it was answered emphatically.
