  1. Disagree strongly. Yes he dropped off big time last eight games but he came into the team late this year and hit the ground running. Played some blinders early on including making dusty look like a second rate player. Yes hes long in the tooth but still worth another year for sure.

  3. A lot of predictions from the playing group that he was a certainty to be best on in the celebrations. Quite likely he’s still drunk, and not legally fit to sign contract. Can’t blame him. Been throw it the last couple of years.

  4. Form my own observations from afar, part of me has a sense Hibbo may struggle next season and right now might be a good oppertunity for him to go out on top. However I'm sure that Hibbo and the club know his body and desire to go again much better than us mere mortal supporters. In the scenario that he goes on Hibbo's senior appearances next season are limited much like Jones and Jetta this year, I'd be ok with that too. He isn't that senior and we are nowhere near as top heavy as alot of teams and I'm sure that Hibbo would provide valuable leadership to who ever we are developing down at Casey and around the team in general. For instance, I get the sense that having Jetta around this season was really important to Kossie and I'm sure there are others for whom Hibbo could play that mentoring role. Quite asides from his valuable contributions to our premiership season this year, Hibbo has always been a hard as nails, heart and soul type of player for the MFC during a time when we were still building a winning culture. For a number of years before Lever and May, he was both a rock and awsome rebounder out of defense. His gut running back to cover our defense epitomizes the 'selfless' spirt the team has embraced and he is fully deserving of the respect that it appears he is being afforded.

  7. Can we get back to discussing the greatest game in our history? I dont want us to look back on this thread in a couple of years and see pages of comments about ads for dating Asian women or shoes or whatever. That would plain embarrassing. Like discussing the quality of cheeseboards or something. For me I have been super impressed on my multiple watchings with Tom Sparrow. Love his attack on the footy, his positioning, his toughness and his kicking. We have an absolute beauty there.

  8. I did this. 19 points down was too much to bear. I went outside and smoked a cigarette and cried. My sons know me so well, all three of them (including the one who lives in Poland and the one who lives with me and was in his bedroom at the time) were texting me and telling me not to give up. None of them get into footy but they were all checking the scores coz they know how much it means to me. I didn’t have to wait until 3-qtr time though. The middle son messaged me “mum get back inside! It’s 58 to 59!!!” I’ve never moved so fast in my life. And I am so glad I did coz I got to see the goal-fest live. 🙂

  11. Didn’t ‘crack it’ and leave, but definitely thought we were done. The proceeding 1.5 quarters (16.4 to 1.1) will probably be the best 45 minutes of my life. To go from being dominated to dominating 10-fold, talk about a swing in momentum.

  12. I’ve banged on about this before, but it bears repeating. The first time we played Footscray this year was sans crowds. Throughout the entire match you could hear Jake barking instructions to his fellow defenders. So much so that when interviewied post-match he was hoarse! Love this guy.

  14. Its been a week since I've watched it so I gave it another run this arvo. I tell you what's an under rated act - Max Gawn breaking away from the celebrations after the final siren to shake Bontempelli's hand. He was well within his rights to get lost in the euphoria of the moment. Classy captain.

  16. Having watched he replay a few times I have noticed just how good Viney was. He had an enormous game tackling, getting the hard ball to advantage for his teammates and creating space for his teammates with one in particular I remember which gave Harmes the opportunity to get the ball and hit Fritch lace out which atarted our comeback. Viney is Melbourne royalty and deserves all his success. I am really happy for him.

  17. It’s amazing that with every rewatching you see more and more things to appreciate. On Sparrow, as well as Rivers and Bowey, amongst others, you see how determined and focussed they are even when not involved in a particular passage of play. Anyways, that’s my excuse for watching it soooooo many times. 😁

  20. We should never underestimate the contribution Simon Goodwin made to this club. That remark from Burgess that Goodwin backed him and the fitness team 100% and not once in 2 years questioned him about players' fitness, bodies etc. etc. Also, his remark that Goodwin has no self-interest and only does what's best for the club/team was revelatory and reinforces what we saw with the players backing each other with their "team-first" approach. (rather than just trying to get 30 touches). Perhaps the best behind-the-scenes AFL podcast or interview I've ever heard.

  21. Run into a Carlton supporter today. Said "g'day mate". He paid a backhanded complement about our win. I said "it's our third anniversary today". "What?", he says. I say, "three weeks since we won a flag". He says something about having to wait another 57 for the next flag. I said, "and it's also only 49 weeks to go". Again, he says "what?". I said, 49 weeks until our 14th. He didn't like it at all.

  22. Spot on, durango, the criticism was unrelenting - from the media and fans of other clubs, as well. What makes the deal even sweeter is that we also received a pick from Adelaide that we used to draft Harry Petty.

  25. Some Demonlanders out there will remember the brief appearance of a group of Melbourne Next Generation Academy players at preseason at Gosch’s Paddock in December 2019. The standout was a strongly built tall ruckman, Deakin Pereira who mixed it with the likes of Max Gawn and Braydon Preuss in the ruck and held himself in good stead against the Demons’ tall timber. We were hoping that the young Pereira would try out for a place in the 2020 national draft but Deakin had a long-held dream of making it in the world of professional basketball at its highest level in the USA. Over the past 20 months or so he’s gone a long way to achieving that dream despite the fact that our world is a far different place than it was back then. I reached out to Deakin’s biggest fans, his parents Kylie and Ryan, and they filled me in on his movements in the interim. They report that he’s made it through the world-wide Covid19 storm and is finishing his last year of high school. He has just achieved his first aim by securing a scholarship to a major division 1 college - California State University, Fullerton which is a leading campus of CSU and which serves as an intellectual and cultural center for Southern California. Sholarships are few and far between and Deakin was good enough to get one. He stands around 6 foot 9 inches tall (206cm) and is looking very strong. He says he can’t wait to go to college where he will beef up even more. If things don’t work out, you never know, he might be back at Gosch’s Paddock battling out with our premiership pair of ruckmen one day but in the meantime, we’re looking forward to seeing him proceed to a different draft in the NBA, possibly to join the growing band of Aussies there. Then it could be on to the Olympics in Paris in three year’s time. We all know now how well Demons go in Olympic years.😀 Anyway, Deakin can rest assured that there’s an army of Demons fans following his fortunes in sunny California. Good luck!

  30. Tomlinson will probably miss the first 6 rounds and then Hibberd is the most likely to make way. But then again Bowey is still young and he may not be ready for a 22+ game season and might be rested at times. Kozzie was an under the radar star in the GF. His harassing of a bulldog player (Williams??) on the boundary directly resulted in the Spargo goal. Early in the game he dumped Dunkley, stood over him and gave him a spray for good measure. He again targeted Dunkley which resulted in Petracca having enough space to line up his 'soccer' goal. Bear in mind there is about 20cm and 20 kg difference between Kozzie and Dunkley. Fearless! There were many 'moments' of aggression in the GF by Kozzie but they do not show up in any mainstream stats. I onlly noticed them on re-watching the game. Absolutely love his work when off the ball.

  32. Gee Gus really stepped up in the Gf. Has been solid all year but doesn't really rip games apart like others. Turned it up three sixty degrees in the big one. Put his body on the line time after time. Miraculously moved from standing next to Bowie when Bowie kicked it and then turned up at the end of it to mark. Hasnt been great at goal kicking but nailed this one to put us back in front.

  36. Just for the record, his disposal efficiency across 2021 was 82.1% Defenders are always more maligned for their kicking than other players because any poor disposal back there can have such a big consequence. Also, 10.3 intercepts per game across the season…mind boggling. This is the highest average for a defender ever. The commentary around Lever when we brought him over seems absolutely laughable.‘He’s a one trick pony’ ‘He can’t lock down a power forward’ ‘Dees have paid far too much’, blah, blah, blah. Even if he had only one trick, it’s a pretty damn good trick. Marking or halving anything airborne that comes into the defensive arc. But he doesn’t just have one trick. He has a massive football IQ and is an awesome organiser and leader. He and May absolutely maintain our defensive structure.

  37. I'm not sure it has FULLY sunk in for me yet either. I feel Euphoric but also relieved that the Monkey is finally of our back. Its great walking around the street EVERY day wearing my Melbourne Jumper with NO 13 on the back. My wife actually snuck it out and washed it when I wasnt looking and I felt like Linus without his blanket. Shameful for a grown man to behave like this..... NOT🤩

  38. Absolute gun, he had a phenomenal season and I quietly suspect he was a big part of the change in culture around the club. Lever is a born leader and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he captained the club at some point in the future. Any media pundits who said we overpaid for him in 2017 can suck eggs, he has 100% paid back the price we paid for him, and then some

  39. I for one was glad to see the back of Bruce. There was his 70 rhetorical questions a game. The sleezy sexual innuendo (yes, yes yes!). The ridiculous voice changes, the unnecessary player criticisms/judgements, the unprofessional nicknames (King for Carey, Lingy for Ling, Hodgey, etc). How people thought he was even decent is beyond comprehension. The sooner they dump Taylor too the better. What an embarrassment he is. DeeSpencer described him well in a previous post. Mistake after mistake. Unfinished sentences, obvious barracking, repetition of uninteresting facts, talking over people... Complete ignoramus. Brayshaw to his credit did an excellent job in the grand final. I'm generally not a fan but he refrained from the blokeyness in this game and came up with a couple of gems like the Bang... bang, bang, bang when Oliver scored the last before three-quarter time and 'It's falling the way of the Demons' after Bailey fumbled and Fritta goaled. Sport commentary in Australia is a sad state of affairs. In the AFL Jason Bennett, Adam Papalia and Anthony Hudson are about the best we can muster. Then there's Derwayne, Eddie, Hamish, Taylor, Underwood, etc.

  40. When he came to the club I knew that something was different - rarely were we chosen by players - especially up and coming stars of the game. Great leader.

  41. I doubt it. My hunch is hibberd is considering going out on top or doing another year and the club is giving him time to consider it. I would think the flow on effect of his decision is if declasse stays on rookie list or if hibberd decides he wants another year they move hore to rookie list and declasse is delisted. I have no info though.

  42. Was lucky a few weeks before the end of the season a swans supporter mate asked me how I thought we'd go in the finals. Told him I was nervous, been playing some good footy but dropping a few games we shouldn't etc, etc. He told me when the swans won their 1st flag on '05 he didn't actually think they were any good till it was all over. I made the decision there and then to just relax and enjoy the ride. And what a ride it was. Apart from that spooky quarter and a half they were brilliant.

  43. All started with what they let Wawrick Capper get away with. I didn't have a problem with Johaniesons other than the fact I was going into a dark tunnel at the time. The AFL doesn't want to lose the spectacular mark. They're not as regular as they once were due to the way the game is played so they let abit more go. A big mark is advertising gold to the americans for eg. As for Browns. He's allowed to hold his ground, reckon the timing of the Bulldogs jump was bad for him. And I've watched Hawkins get away with that week after week so ..... "YES BROWNY, C'MON DEMONS!!!! "

  44. He is more like Dangerfield than Dusty, but simply stronger and a tad better. But ultimately the big games set Trac and Dusty apart. They thrive on the big occasions whereas Danger tries too hard and his class drops (which he lacks sometimes anyway). I still find it hard to believe I’ve finally got champions on my team. For years I’ve talked to mates about them having Pendlebury and Buckley or Hird or Robert Harvey or more recently Dusty. I’ve been envious. I had Stynes growing up but even that isn’t the same, he was a workhorse. Having Trac and Oliver and Gawn in the headlines week after week. Mates talking me about being jealous of our midfield and how good x or z is….it’s a foreign feeling, it’s about time and it’s awesome.

  46. When we traded in Jake Lever it was a long term decision to fill a big hole in our team structure and add backline leadership to the group. We did have to give up a lot but Jake has proven his worth once he got his body right. In 2021 Rick took more intercept marks ,in the league, co led the stingiest backline since 1964, made all Australian and helped us win our first Granny in 57 years and as Demonstone pointed out we also ended up with Harrison Petty in that deal another premiership backline player. How sweet was that deal now.💕❤️💙

  47. When he joined the club a lot of people on demonland questioned whether he was worth the 2 first round picks which we gave up to get him from Adelaide and had the foul mouthed Walker malign him for leaving the Crows, accusing him of chasing the dollars rather than success. Well we suceeded where they failed Mr Tex Walker, have a good weekend sulk.

  48. Not in terms of winning three flags of course. But comparing the first, we have a far superior team to the 2017 tiger's team. Far superior. We were the best team in 2021 by a country mile, as evidenced by our home and away record against top 4 teams (and top 8 teams too) and the utter demonlition of the next three best teams behind us in the finals The tigers won the flag in 2017 but were simply nowhere near as dominant, or as good as we were this year. No competition.

  49. So many ways to watch: 👹 Second half - This allows you to recapture that "Oh no!" sinking feeling and experience the momentum shift to fuller effect. 👹 Bont's goal onwards - Less impactful version of the above, slightly more time efficient, great "everything's awesome from here" vibes. 👹 The whole shebang - The first quarter was pretty good after all, and the second quarter just makes the second half more satisfying and awe-inspiring. 👹 At any point in the replay - Because why not? 👹 Backwards - Haven't tried this yet, but I'm sure it's pretty good too. Maybe even some demonic subliminal messaging?
