  1. It's hard to know how well a defensive wing plays because their role means that they are often where the ball ain't. He could play his role immaculately, deter every opposition kick and force long kicks down the line .... and you'd have no idea. Sometime the opposition will take the game on through his side and he'll get it 20+ times, and sometimes they'll barely go near him. That's why pressure acts and tackles don't tell the story for his role, because he could play his role perfectly and be nowhere near the footy for most of the match. Counting possessions for him is silly because the biggest influence on that will be the style and shape of how the game is played. If he does his job well, the reward will be when we win.

  2. You have to be careful with Gus. He seems like he’s a part of the fabric if that group. That’s from afar, but footy teams have a delicate culture if you don’t respect that culture.

  3. Can we please cease and desist with the “it’s a conspiracy, the AFL is out to get us (MFC)” posts. These are very difficult times and the AFL is trying their best to work logistical miracles with the continually moving target that the virus creates. If we’re good enough, we should be able to win regardless of where we have to play.

  4. If someone knows anyone that is CoVID positive have them take a poo in a box and ship it down to my sister in Geelong. She’ll flush it for the Demons. Result = Covid in the sewerage system, Kardinia off the table for finals, neutral footy fans happy. Honestly, the club should make me a consultant.

  5. The fact when sides look up and have nothing to kick too is because of Brayshaw. He is often rolling onto Lever's opponent so he can drop off. Last week before finals coming of 3 wins, no time to change structures that work!

  6. Just saw the clip of the Majak incident. What a beat up! Not even worth citing, let alone four weeks as Tom Browne suggested. It’s basically a careless arm around the shoulder. The media should be ashamed of themselves for trying to make it a story. Pathetic parasitic scum.

  7. Reinforcing that - in one of Nibbler's interviews for his 100th he talked about the forward pressure and how valuable it was that the midfielders were covering their opponents and closing down any escape options. "Which lets us pressure forwards go to work," I think was how he put it. You put that together with the number of times Brayshaw has been on the spot to spoil or intercept exactly those relief kicks and you begin to see clearly what is being asked of him and why his disposal count doesn't reflect the value of his game. Remember how even in 2018 we still had the critical weakness of the rapid breakaway goals against us that just sailed right past our defensive zone? Dealing with that is probably the single greatest difference (among many) that has us now in serious premiership contention.

  12. The top 5 players on the ground for average speed in defence against the Crows were ours and Brayshaw was the number one player on the ground in that category. I think he’s had a marvellous season and has worked his butt off helping the team defend. I feel we try and find faults when they’re really not there sometimes.

  13. Well, lock down is hard, but I need to remember it’s not Afghanistan hard, or being indigenous hard, or being a Collingwood supporter hard 😂

  14. Love this guy - almost faultless in his picks over the journey and has made some risky choices that have all paid off. Obviously, he sticks to a script to ensure he doesn't give anything away and only talks about the players that have been widely reported as high picks but great to hear this legend's voice either way.

  16. I think I am in the minority here but I would prefer we play in front of a crowd over an empty MCG. Even if only a couple thousand MFC fans can see the game that is better than none. They got 60K for the neutral dreamtime game so I think a top 4 final would be a sell out in AO, Gabba or Optus. It is soulless watching us play to empty stadiums and hard for the players to get up, whether that is being spurred on by boos, or cheered on. Watching at home is hard enough, but having no crowds its like its not even real or happening. Anyway, that's my two cents

  17. All you have to do is listen to players and coaches talk about his role to know he’s doing what’s asked of him. If that’s not good enough for you then I don’t know what is. Not saying he had a good game on the weekend but there are deeper things than statistics that define whether they’ve done their job. Goody and co say he’s doing what’s required, that’s good(y) enough for me.

  19. Based on the Gus & Gawny podcast he presents as a major influencer of the field. You don't trade these sorts of guys out of your team as he sets the standards and makes the difference. Not everything happens between the first and last sirens

  20. Why, oh why, does the media insist on using the ugly terminology to describe our position. We are "top of the ladder" as it has been since the dawn of the footy era. We are not "top of the table", an ugly term purloined from overseas soccer. If we finish top of the ladder that is enough to define our success. Again that's how it has been since the dawn of footy. That ugly expression "minor premiership" has crept in from rugby and has no place in our great game. Curse those journos and commentators who use these terms in the hope of sounding fancy and "sophisticated". They don't, they sound like presumptuous prats and bores. Call me an old fuddy duddy but some things we should hold sacred. Our great game and its traditional terminology are sacred and must be preserved. Go dees.

  23. Is this thread about Majak or Grinter? Can we keep it remotely on subject pls guys, really no need to be going off track every 2nd post! Has zero to do with Wallace/Grinter incident, not even similar lmao!

  24. Grinter was one of the most skilful players we had in the past 50 years. He could take a speccy, had clean ball handling skills and his kicking was Travis Johnstone standard.

  30. I think that nails it. That said I think he still played his role in getting to the space as the defensive winger. He ain’t going nowhere, he’s played a massive role for us this season.

  32. We should not flirt with form or agree to 'not go too hard' with the Cats if the dogs win. not going in 100% can result in more injuries not less from my experience. Also, we have some good form and if we lose that continuity it is hard to get back. I don't mind Gawn or 1-2 others being rested if they are sore but the players selected should go in 100%

  39. I was all set for WA but now see Adelaide Oval as the preferred destination. WA not letting immediate families in is pox. I think any venue should have antigen testing as part of the deal though and also no kids, mandatory masks and spray disinfectant stalls at the entries…. At the G

  40. Bulltish. Ball was in play/dispute. Grinter was about a second too late connecting with the pill. As a spectator I was about 30 metres from the incident. The TV replays do Grinter no favours.

  41. Actually the incident was in the play. Grinter got Wallace a fraction of a second after Wallace fumbled the ball in front of his face. I suspect Wallace fumbled because he saw Grinter coming.

  44. If we’ve got it sown up with 15 minutes to go I’ll open a bottle of whiskey and possibly drink more in those 15 minutes than in my 43 years on the planet to this point. I’d probably let out the biggest blood curdling roar on the siren that will terrify my kids and the neighbours, then I’d ring my old man and have a good cry 😳 After I recover from that and watch the boys collect their medals, I’ll reflect on Flower, Stynes, Lyon and all the other greats and what it means to all our supporters who have been through absolute [censored] for 50+ years. I’ll then watch the reply and pot a few people on Bigfooty (won’t be able to help it) until I pass out at about 5am. Pretty measured response I reckon!

  45. Apologies if it’s already been mentioned but apparently Fritta now holds the record for the fastest time to kick 3 goals. His 3 goals in the final 88 seconds of the game is now the record.
