  1. Do people honestly think Melksham would continue to be selected if the greater match committee (not just Goodwin) didn’t think it was in the team’s best interest to do so? The “Goodwin plays favourites” argument just makes no logical sense.

  2. I don’t care about the optics, it was obvious we were shepherding Jones through, and any club who reckons they wouldn’t do the same are full of it.

  3. I don't really understand the anti-Melk chat. Melk's upside is heaps better than Jones.

  4. As someone who's worked with Schache at junior level I find this comment disrespectful. You've made judgement on his attitude based on what you've probably read on bigfooty or just making it up to suit your narrative. [censored] comment really. Schache does not have tickets on himself at all. If anything he's battled anxiety from a young age and I believe that's still the case now due to the passing off his father at a young age. His confidence is shot by the looks of it and it wouldn't surprise me if he retires at years end.

  5. Leaving aside the Jones discussion, I understand keeping Melksham in. I was a huge critic of him last year. His lack of pressure and leadership were damning in my book. He was pretty average against the tigers, but his pressure was better. Not great, but better. Possibly the best kick in the team. And has great vision. As a permanent half forward (with the occasional run in the middle) he can be a real weapon. And in that role he doesn't need heaps if the ball. With everything else clicking he can be icing on the cake. A difference maker. And another match up headache as you have to put a decent defender on him - possibly the player you might also consider for fritter.

  6. I agree with it because it was the change I'd hoped for. Jones is no longer a midfielder, as you assert. He's playing a pressure HF role. Unlike many here, I prefer Melksham to Jones. It was clearly out of those two as to who was going to be omitted. I want to support a caring but ruthless footy club. Jones was honoured brilliantly by the club, but it has also shown it does what good clubs do, select the best team to win as they explore the right team balance across the course of the season. This side is as good as it gets. One can debate Weideman v McDonald, but in essence their current outputs are about the same, so they cancel each other out.

  7. An in form Melksham is better at the role of medium forward than Jones. Neither are setting the world alight but to call it pathetic is projection.

  8. After 300 games, being managed and not having to fly to Tassie and being allowed to spend the time with pregnant wife and 2 kids does make sense, doesn’t it?

  9. We’re a better team with that change, so can’t complain.

  10. It would mean a fair bit to me. 45 years of systematic trauma, mounting therapy bills, PTSD and ritualistic abuse; top of the ladder certainly counts for something. I've been conditioned to take any small morsel of food that falls on the ground from the Jolimont dining room table.

  11. Ha how good is it seeing the cats lose on the siren, selwood going nuts and scott sitting in the coaches box shaking his head.

  12. Last 2 rounds combined. It’s pretty clear cut. Jones 24 possessions 6 score involvements 13 pressure acts Melksham 22 possessions 11 score involvements 24 pressure acts He was rightly carried to 300 and I doubt he will get back in unless as sub.

  13. Jones as medical sub to get to 301. Use the vets as a sub. Will show leadership from the bench, more then any other player. If he comes on, could have a better understanding of where the game is at and what role to play, than a less experienced player. Get games into the less experienced, even at VFL level. Stable team selections. Winning form, is good form, hard to be deselected. A credit to fitness and biometrics staff, that we have minimal, injuries and player management. A few knocking on the door for a call up. Go Dees.

  16. Disgusting that they can only draw 24,000 to a game against an interstate club. Pathetic.

  17. Well done Jesse, hope he can get his career (and life) back on track. Wil always have a soft spot for the big fella.

  18. I think Melksham gets the nod in the hope that he delivers well to Brown. His forward entries are first class, as long as he gets enough of it.

  19. Selection is a joke. Jones is in better form than Melk amd he gets omitted. Well some things haven’t changed since last season with goody. Pathetic.

  20. As well as telling us that the doggies are flaky I think last nights game also reminded us that Richmond are still a very capable side. Talk of their demise is premature. They’ll be a force this year.

  22. Ranked 2nd for score involvements and equal 4th for goal assists for us. Might not be kicking many himself, but he's involved heavily in the scoreboard in a way.

  23. Agreed, it’s not everything. But it’s also not nothing. At the very least it will serve as a confidence boost for the players. And for all those little kids, the mini Dees fans, who’ve seen no joy, top of the ladder would mean the world imo.

  24. At the risk of sounding cocky... Thanks for keeping the seat at the top of the ladder warm for us, Bulldogs. We’ll take it from here. Cheers.

  25. At the start of the season I’m sure our aim was just to make finals, but now should be aiming higher and give ourselves the best chance we’ve had in a long long time to win a premiership ? Staying Top 4 should be our home and away season priority then reset come finals time for a tilt at the flag.

  27. Melbourne selectors made the right decision. Team looks awesome. Funky HF line! Big game for Jordon. Pressure on him for sure. All Good. Optics? What TF are you talking about?. Its a football club not a society of Opticians.

  28. Winning trumps optics i don’t get sentimentality here the team the club is more important than any individual that is the key take out on field - that players weren’t being selfless and if they did that would contribute to better performance why doesn’t it apply to selection?

  29. Just sending our 6yo off to sleep (no not with a boring story about dad’s failed pro golf/cycling career smart #rses!!) and said big day tomorrow mate - 6th bday party and Dees atop the ladder for the first time since you were minus ten! “Minus ten!?? That is a long time ago dad!”

  31. As much as I don't like the messaging around Jones... geez, that's a good looking team.

  32. Exactly and Jones bloody deserved to get there for the years of crap and his loyalty, from here he makes the perfect sub

  33. I actually think that Lever is an outstanding reader of the play. Sitting up high at the G, it is amazing how many times Lever leaves his man well before it is kicked, to run 35 m, and end up making the spoil. He also directs a lot of the traffic and positioning down back.

  35. I can't stand the [censored], every handout under the sun, Academy picks, COLA set ups, 10 year deal makers. No Mercy Dees, remember the pain. Especially this Sunday, I want every Norf supporter to remember the punishment that is dished out on the scoreboard and everywhere else.

  36. It's fine. Jones himself is probably much more interested in being as fresh as possible to give him a chance for the late season. Fairytales don't climax with an early winter win over the presumptive wooden spoon team. We also still have some kinks to work out and partnerships to fine tune if we're really going to challenge in September and Jones is the most 'known quantity' of known quantities.

  37. If he can stay mentally and physically healthy he will be an amazing player for GWS. On pure talent, he’s one of the best players going around. Just gotta put it together.

  38. I got my partner to follow the Dees at the end of 2017, she wasn’t really a footy fan and wanted to know why I love our Dees and wanted to experience game day etc. She got hooked after a few matches and loves the Dees, and Maxy, now. ? A work acquaintance ripped out the old snow joke, followed by the cheese platter jokes, my partner asked what it meant, I explained the “joke/dig” to her and she just looked at me and said, “Is that all they say, that’s not bad, Melbourne really is my team because I love the snow and cheese platters. Can we actually take a platter to the next game?” ??

  41. I would be shocked. I’ve seen plenty of flaky Demons teams but I genuinely think our present team is different. All players are playing well but it’s the system and structure that is really holding up. We've been challenged a few times and responded on each occasion. We will beat North handily

  42. Either ANB OR Spargo's clear role will be to HARD tag Caleb Daniel and then escort him to his car after the game, help him put his keys in the ignition and watch him drive of into the sunset

  43. True but in the meantime, let’s not fall for the notion that beating the Tigers is a significant achievement. The real indicator of a team’s strength is how they go against North Melbourne. The Dogs set the benchmark against them at Marvel Stadium in Round 3 and I doubt that we can come close to emulating that performance.
    5 points
  44. You’ve got to love how knee jerk footy fans are with their comments! Doggies are rubbish now according to the masses. We will lose a game soon too you realise?
    5 points
  45. They broke the Dogs with sustained pack mentality type pressure they simply couldn't handle, we bypassed and absorbed their press/squeeze/pressure jam what ever spin you like to call it. We manouvered the ball around like no Melbourne team i have seen. We have unbelievable speed now in our line up on every line. We have set-ups and a back to front systems that stands up to the best. We take huge grabs in every part of the ground, with the likes of Gawny, Tmac, Action, Fritta, Lever, Maysie, Tomlinson and Now Big Ben we have unbelievable Marking ability.

  46. Agree, their system fell apart. No direction on their kicks, fumbles and missed tackles. Won the clearances in the first half then the Tigers got them in the second half. Both of them had trouble scoring. Bont missing the half-time goal. Not hungry enough, and couldn't seize the moment. We cracked them and nearly broke them. Dogs could have ripped them apart. They didn't and we have a chance of being the last one standing at this stage of the season.

  47. The thing I thought through that game was how much better we are in the back half than the dogs. May, Lever, Tomlinson >>> Keath, Cordy, ??

  48. Not sure Gerard Healy is any more an expert on such things than you or I, either way I wouldn’t be putting any faith that Wied is the future down fwd for us. He is a nearly 24 year old in his 5th year of AFL football played under 50 games and only averaging just over a goal a game. Those aren’t the number of someone who is going to be a star. Hogan in the same time with the club played 71 games and kicked over 150 goals all despite battling multiple injuries and off field issues and he is considered a failure. I think people need some perspective on Wieds career he is a middle of the road player at best.
