  1. When you look at the business we've done over the past few years: - Hogan out for May which is turning out to be a huge plus - Langdon one of the best pickups in the comp this year for a second rounder - Benny Brown basically for Preuss - This year's 1st round lucky dip draft for Kozzy - Likely 200+ gamer for pick 50-something (Rivers) - Burgo in our fitness dept (worth whatever we paid) People often lament on the Lever deal, but I reckon we've come out well and truly in front. Now we just need to put the pieces together.

  2. I'd like all those posters that denigrate Josh Mahoney, to take note that this man knows what he's doing.

  3. Players Traded Out: Hannan, Preuss Players Traded In: Brown Draft picks: 2020: '@ Start: 23, 47, 62, 63, 89 '@ End: 18, 19, 28, 50, 89 2021: '@ Start: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th '@ End: 2nd (Tied to Brisbane), 3rd (Tied to WBD), 4th (Tied to North). I wouldn't be surprised to see the WBD slide and North to not improve much so these two picks might be an upgrade on what would have been our 'natural' 2021 picks. Overall Position: Covered a tall fwd need. Improved list by trading two 'depth' players Dramatically improved 2020 draft position. Only gave up 2021 1st rnd pick. Upgraded later 2021 picks I would rate that A++. Its good to be on the plus side of the ledger on individual trades and pick swaps. Shows that having a reputation for getting deals done pays off. Getting in early for Lions pick 18 and 19 stops other teams doing same altho GWS have a fistful of 1st round picks: 10, 13, 15, 20. And Ess have: 6, 7, 8. So plenty of scope for more deals to be done. I'm guessing we will take only 1 or 2 picks to the draft so more pick swaps to come. Would be surprised if we don't use pick #89 to upgrade Lockhart to the seniors list. Wouldn't mind swapping picks 28 and 50 for more future picks. Collingwood's 2021 1st perhaps?

  4. If that is the net effect then nobody in the whole universe can deny this as nothing short of a heist.

  5. From a Collingwood supporter: ''I'd rather have a beer with Dom Sheed and watch the 2018 GF then have a beer with Ned Guy''

  6. The net trade of Preuss for Ben Brown is the most outrageous piece of swindling since that Canadian bloke traded a paperclip for a house.

  7. So unless you're upset with sliding back two spots from 26 to 28, we'll get Brown for a third round pick (31 or 33). Sounds good to me.

  8. Yeah for sure, just a coleman medalist who has kicked nearly 200 goals in the last 4 years. and getting him for a 2nd round pick. horrible off season.

  9. Say what you like about how crap we are on field, I think off field we are one of the best clubs at getting trades done and taking full advantage of the system. We are very clever at trading for picks and once a player makes his intentions clear we always get the trades done with minimal fuss. I believe clubs really like to work with us, and that also helps enormously as we are not in the business of screwing everyone over.

  10. So in effect, Brown for Preuss. I think on the face of it that's a fantastic result.

  11. I have to agree that we did very well this trade period. I think we managed to do almost all that we wanted to do except for moving a couple of players on. I do not mind that we have still got TMac on the list. he cannot be a bad as he was last season and he can serve as back up forward and in the ruck. Expect us to upgrade Lockhart, take a DFA and Look to trade further up the draft. My big take away from this trade period is that clubs need to invest much more in list management and contract structures or face a Pies future. I like the way Josh did his work.

  12. Sounds like Geelong will give up their three 1st round picks and get a future 2nd back for Cameron. A case of Free Agency not going to script! Geelong were committed. GWS knew it. Good on GWS for sticking to their guns. It means Geelong don't get 3 potentially top talents. Messes with their list management plans and age profile. Its a good outcome for the rest of us.

  13. Remind me again. Why were the club trying to push Mahoney out the door? I'm not sure how he goes the other 51 weeks of the year but his work during trade week has been faultless.

  14. Quite happy for T Mac to remain at our club. If he can shed the kgs, then I think he still has plenty to offer. Personally, I don't get the benifit of us paying several hundred grand a year for someone else to be getting a solid mature player, while we'd still be paying an additional few hundred grand for any sort of backup worth having. T Mac's versatility is a big plus he has going for him IMHO. Can do a respectable job up forward, down back or in the ruck. If Max gets injured, I don't want us to have to be in a position of flogging the guts out of Jackson if his body isn't quite there. Conversely, I'd be quite comfortable with rotating Brown, Jackson and T Mac through as ruck/forwards. Actually thought T Mac was starting to find form as a forward and clunk some good big strong marks before he got his eye poked out of its socket earlier this season. If Steve May goes down, we still need a player capable of taking on the gorilla forwards. Not so worried about his previous weaknesses woth disposal comming out of defense. It's true that he was pretty hit and miss by foot at that time, but we were a side under siege in those days without the same quality of players around him. Beyond all, I do like the sentiment of T Mac finishing in Red and Blue. He's been with us, copped pleanty through some pretty lean times and think he deserves some respect and an oppertunity to share in any success that we might have in the next two or three years.

  18. Ned Guy Collingwood list manager was just on fox and my god he is in dreamland. He said something like and I paraphrasing: -we want our list to get better and now we have 2 first round picks -getting rid of the 3 players was NOT related to salary cap -Trelor move was instigated when his Mrs go a job in qld otherwise it wouldn’t have been brought up -Stephenson was keen to get to the Roos Question asked -Why are u subsidising ur players to go to other clubs? Answer we won’t discuss player specific contracts. Questions asked -You want to improve ur list but are getting rid of 3 players in ur best 22. How does this improve ur list? Answer we have 2 first round picks which we believe will improve our list. It was bloody hilarious and the excuses for getting rid of the players was not believable at all. King said he didn’t believe any of the answers that he just heard. It took me a while to write this as I have only just stoped laughing at the responses. They are the biggest joke in the AFL atm even worse than the Roos.

  20. I wonder... I reckon this might be a 'thank you' from North for the swapping of first round picks last year. This is what happens when you show you are willing to give a little to get a little. Other clubs should take note

  21. Just watched the Ben Brown highlights on the official website. Fair dinkum, we have just landed an absolute belter here. Possibly better than Jeremy Cameron. I was a huge fan of the Steven May trade, but this could be even better. We’re top 4 next year. No excuses. I’m in a good mood right now.

  22. I'm hearing he's keen to stay. Settled in really well with the group. Both WA clubs have sounded him out, but it's believed he will stay. Smart move to not extend at this stage

  25. I think we're a possibility to get into the top 10 with our picks. Turning more of our lower picks into fewer picks of similar value allows us to trade with teams that have very high picks and not that many available list spots. This is especially the case with list sizes reducing. For instance, you can't throw a million 4th rounders at the Dogs because they have only had 5 open list spots before the list reductions. That means that they only have 2 empty spots, effectively, so we can't give them more picks than they can use in the draft. For example (hypothetically), they may have 3 list spots going in to the draft, so they can't have 5 picks in the 3rd and 4th round to use for draft points. As a result we need to give them enough points that they can use in as few picks as possible. Pick 25 and 28 is the equivalent of pick 10. Add in 50 and it gets to pick 7.

  26. Essentially we upgraded 26 to 25, 31 to 28, and then got BB & future 4th for 33 & 43. That's well played ??

  27. Ahead of the curve with the points system. Ahead of the curve with the future pick trading. And now I reckon he might be ahead of the curve with the lower draft pick limit... Wait and see I guess.

  29. Per The Age: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-trade-period-deadline-day-all-the-trades-and-all-the-drama-on-deadline-day-20201112-p56dvm.html North Melbourne and Melbourne are close to a deal to send Ben Brown to the Demons for an exchange of a suite of picks. The deal, which is agreed in principal, cannot be lodged until later today after an AFL briefing. The deal will centre on North giving up Brown and pick 28 and receive Melbourne’s pick 26 and either pick 31 or 33. The clubs will also swap future late round picks.

  32. Not that it matters much but he also seems like a ripper fella off the field. It takes a very likeable character for me to still like them once they pull on a Norf jumper. Very happy he’s now a Demon.

  36. It's been covered and I don't think it's perplexing at all. Smith was a free agent. Phillips will cost draft picks. So, whilst we were interested in a winger if he could come without a cost, we're less interested in spending for one (bearing in mind Phillips is on decent coin and, whilst good, isn't amazing). That could well be because we've got an overarching strategy to try to get higher up the draft.
