  1. Pick trade for a first round pick coming up apparently.

  2. Covered ad nauseum in this thread. He's out of contract. He had a falling out with North over personal issues relating to death of his unborn child and subsequent treatment where he was asked to leave his grieving wife and other baby to play. He was made to play with knee soreness, which caused further injury. This is about Brown walking out on North, not the other way around. They've essentially thrown their arms up and said yep no contract, sour relationship, cya later! He already passed Melbourne FC medical, so the one injury he's had in his entire career has been ticked off as not an ongoing issue. If we get him for a 2nd rounder, it'll be one of the best trading coupes this century. We should be going as hard as possible to get him.

  3. We wanted Hogan gone and got Picks 6/27 we wanted Watts gone and got pick 31 and we’d be a laughing stock if we got Brown for 26 and 43? Turn it up sure we didn’t go as public with it as North have done. We desperately need Brown as we have no plan B and if we get him for a second round pick Even 26 it will be steal!

  7. Great outcome if we get him on a 3 year deal and use Pick 33 to do it.

  8. Last time I checked you can never have too many good AFL quality players - trading them away is not the answer - teaching them how to work cohesively and as a collective weapon is - its the coaching that needs a big kick

  9. Brown deal to be done tomorrow. I would not be surprised to see TMac move in a give away last minute deal. AvdB is a possibility to move and there is movement for a further pick swap to move into the first round. A couple of days to go and still a bit to play for. If we can make the move into the first round a well as the player trades we have made then I think we will have executed our strategies exactly as we wanted.

  10. Josh Dunkley is as straight laced as a person can get i can think and it's pretty well known he was dissapointed with the Lachie Hunter stuff, so you may well be right that there is a group there that rubs him the wrong way a bit. BUT I think fundementally he's leaving because Essendon are offering him ALOT of money.

  11. I just posted what I'd read on Bigfooty. I don't mind if you follow me around but there's no need to be snarky. Cheers mate.

  12. Bit of both. There were rumors we were keen on him, but it seems to have blown up a bit on here. I'd wager we're after him or Archie Perkins, who is a lively mid/half forward with good burst of pace, good agility, good leap and hits the scoreboard. If we get pick 14, one of them might make it to our pick and would be gold.

  13. So are a bunch of other clubs. They all know that Bulldogs want to dump it. I'd be surprised if they trade it now. More value to them if they trade it post Trade close and before Draft night.

  15. It took ninety-one hours after the last deal was done for the trade period to emerge from hibernation for the first of the day’s trade deals to be announced and shock horror, Dodoro was involved. The player traded was 2 metre Peter who once was a #8 draft pick for the Suns who didn’t play a game in 2020 and was duly dispatched to the Bombers for a future fourth rounder. Then followed three deals that involved the trade stars of the day - the Melbourne Football Club. Take a bow, Josh Mahoney, even if the Roos are holding up the big trade for Ben Brown. The final deal was a three way deal that involved a fellow Demon. The day ended with most of the big deals still to be done and we wait on tomorrow or Thursday to learn the fate of likes of Treloar, Cameron, Dunkley, Saad and, of course, Brown. The big news is that Adam Treloar has spoken with the Bulldogs and had a medical there (late news suggesting the medical wasn’t great) while his Collingwood teammate Jaidyn Stephenson is in talks with North Melbourne about his future. GWS and Geelong are still haggling over the number of first round picks required to get him to Corio Bay. And Dodoro still has many balls hanging in the air. Today’s deals ~ • Peter Wright to Essendon for a future fourth-round pick to the Suns • The Crows traded their No.33 selection and 50 to the Demons this year for Melbourne's future second-round and future fourth-round selection • Melbourne has traded Mitch Hannan to the Western Bulldogs for its future third round draft pick. • Melbourne has traded Braydon Preuss to GWS Giants for pick 31 • In a 3 way deal, Stefan Martin was traded to the Western Bulldogs and Lachie Young ended up at North Melbourne. Brisbane traded Pick 70 to North Melbourne, which gave Pick 63 to the Lions. And the beat goes on ...

  16. Very good summary. Pick 33 is as far as we should be willing to pay. Kangas are getting rid of Brown. They actually have little room to argue.

  17. I find it unbelievable that Phillips is on $600k. It must be an overestimate, because they can't be paying wingers $600k when they're paying Grundy, De Goey, Treloar, Elliot etc. It's really no wonder that they're trying to squeeze 3 guys out in the one off season just to re-sign De Goey. Their list and contract management has clearly been an utter disaster.

  18. If the club does that we will continue to be the laughing stock of the AFL. North Melbourne don't want him, he wanted to stay at North but they are kicking him out to the curb. Big question marks over his knee and his ability to return to his best form. Pick 43 should be our offer but most likely we will have to give up pick 31 or 33. Brown is a fire sale from North just like TMac will be for us, the only difference is Brown is out of contract and has a buyer, TMac has a contract and doesn't have a buyer at this stage.

  19. Haha, like clockwork every year. Two weeks before trade period: "Mahoney's [censored]. WTF is he doing? Why haven't we landed the player we need already?! Melbourne being bent over again!" First week of trade period: crickets... Final few days and hours: "Well done, Mahoney. Well done, MFC."

  20. Pick 31 for Preuss! I tip my hat to you Mr. Mahoney.

  21. Well I hope Pruess does well for himself. Showed initiative in coming to develop alongside Big Max.

  22. Dawson is the good kick and future gun IMO. He's not up for grabs and if he was, we'd be going hard. Hewitt is more a lockdown mid who wins inside ball sometimes. I'd pass as he doesn't fill a need for us.

  23. Disagree. There's not many quality ruckmen around. We would keep him but he only plays when Gawn is injured which is a waste. The Giants will have plenty of picks after the cameron trade but won't be able o draft in a ready made ruck which is what they need.

  24. Another option would be the Giants who look like they may end up with 10, 13 & 15. 26 and Pruess for 13 values Pruess at 37

  25. I think it will take two picks out of 26, 33, 43 and 50 to land Brown. Unlikely to be 26 and 33. Won’t be 43 and 50. So likely something in between. 33 and 50 would be nice.

  26. That would be way overs and a horrible outcome for us.

  27. Pick 26 and 33 equates to Pick 12. I would be more than a little disappointed if that eventuated.

  28. I'd be willing to bet that pick 33 will get the deal done for Ben Brown.

  29. DONE DEAL | Mitch Hannan has been traded to the Western Bulldogs for a future 3rd round pick. We'll always have that goal.

  30. A very impressive young player, arguably the most impressive of our three draftees from last year.

  31. We have good individual players in our midfield, but as a group they are poor. That is the challenge for the coaching staff getting our players and in particular the ones you mention playing team football rather than selfish football. I often compare out team to an U9 side they all go to where the ball is and all want to possession, they need to be coached to work for each other, there is only 1 football in play at 1 time means only 1 person can have it. We need to work harder off the ball to create space, make it easier to for our team mates to win the ball and get a clean possession rather than the under pressure 1m flick handballs. The forward line just doesn't apply more pressure to keep the ball inside our 50m arc and repeat entries, that is why I'm surprised we haven't been linked to any small pressure forwards

  32. Mahoney and Pert have both pretty much come out and said that other then Brown, we'll be fairly quite this trade period. I'll believe them. No way Treloar happens.

  33. If we said to Phillips, 3 years at $400k, which is your $1m owed for 2 from Pies, plus an extra year reduced he gets another year guaranteed playing and with a slight easing of tax, he wouldn't lose much if anything with lower income and another year of deductions. Pies would just about hand him to us for nothing, as they need a domino to fall and quickly. Maybe we are just not interested in him. Surely he is better than AVB, ANB, Jetta and Jones at their age, Hibberd with one year left, M.Brown, Smith and a number of others. Anyway this is a strange trade period, so in a few days we will know where we are.

  34. This is from a few months ago, so possibly could have changed a fair bit, but MFC had Macrae going at pick 12 originally, with 4 Academy picks being used before him.

  35. I think Mahoney has done things very well over the years. They go in knowing what they want and they get the deal done. Not looking to screw other clubs but being fair abs reasonable and not out there shooting his mouth off.

  36. as would i, but they can blame their clubs horrible handling of the situation for the reduced trade value.

  37. Dees seem to be the most strategic making decisions based off the delay between the AFL and AFLPA arrangement. The list size change looks like it will be minimal this year 38 senior and 44 in total including category B rookies. It would seem there will be further list reductions next year which could mean that there will be less players picked up next year in the draft as well. This would help explain why there were so many players brought back on 1-2 year deals. We keep a lot of flexibility next year to take advantage with both salary and list space flexibility.

  38. Then, logically it refers to high profile players. if it was lesser players they would be regularly dropped and delisted. My view is some big possession players do not respect low profile coaches no matter how good they may or may not be. It also gets to the game plan. Maybe if the game plan is best served by you getting twenty possessions and defending instead of thirty possessions doing your own thing so think, stuff it. I think Yze has instant credibiliity that may have been lacking.

  39. Oh boy... "Instead, it’s more likely Treloar stays at the Pies for one more year, giving his camp and rival clubs time to plan for a move this time next year. It’s not ideal, but it’s the best card in the bad hand that he has been dealt by his own club." Treloar staring down the barrel of awkward Collingwood return

  40. I think its the $$ factor why clubs like Melbourne are hesitant with Phillips.

  42. Rapt with that. I really want Oscar to find a new home. He has more to offer.
