  1. You are wrong on both counts. I lost my job and my husband’s business is surviving on jobkeeper and is 70% down. I had a friend attempt to commit suicide and I had a friend who works in a hospital who got this thing and nearly died and is still suffering the after effects. I also have a friend who’s 4 year old son has advanced cancer and he can’t go see him because only one parent is allowed to visit. So don’t tell me who has and hasn’t suffered because of this. We are all struggling. We are all suffering. I am very sorry to hear about your friend, and the pain you feel is no different to the pain 700+ families have felt this year when one of their loved ones have died from this disease. This is awful for everyone involved. To rant about misleading statistics and facts that suit your personal narrative doesn’t help to make it easier or better.

  2. My main issue here is the skylarking during the coaches address at 3/4 time before our most important quarter of the season. Sure we had a healthy lead and looked like we were going to cruise to victory but we have this habit of going to sleep and not being switched on and then we concede multiple goals. Now I’m beginning to see why. This issue of not being switched on needs to be addressed in 2021.

  3. No you don’t because I don’t post my every inner thought on Demonland. Just because you don’t deem this disease deadly enough for your liking, doesn’t mean that it isn’t extremely contagious, very invasive and does a lot of damage (even without death), and that thousands of cases would see our health care system collapse to the point where loads of people would die for lots of reasons, not just Covid. People breaching the rules are selfish flogs. People who think they can visit their family because they feel like it, are selfish and are costing the rest of us our freedom. We all have to make sacrifices and do the right thing so that we can ensure our health care system can stay as good as it is, and so that we can save the lives of many elderly people, who you may not care about, but who all have families who love them and want them alive.

  4. Well, as expected its all over but lets look at the positives, 1. We rose from 17th to 9th; Quite a rise and a big percentage improvement . 2, We beat old rivals, Carlton, Collingwood , Essendon and Hawthorn all in one season. WHEN DID WE LAST ACHIEVE SUCH A FEAT? Long, long time ago me thinks. We also nearly took the honours against Geelong with a missed gettable goal after the siren and had a real chance to beat Brisbane losing by 4 points. We took care of St Kilda and North Melbourne, teams that have had the wood on us for many years. Finishing higher than Sydney and GWS too must be noted as positives. 3. Our two early draft picks showed that they will be stars of the future and Ed Langdon was a wonderful addition to our list. Young Rivers too gives hope for the future. Individually, we had positives with the potential AA selection of Petracca, Stephen May and Max Gawn. We are nowhere near perfect yet but heading in the right direction. Go DEMONS 2021 and beyond.

  5. Sorry to those posting we don't deserve to be in the finals - but if Dogs lose today, presumably they don't deserve to be in the finals either. I wonder how the AFL will manage a final 7.

  8. I don't think we should wait for the facts, I think we should hang the bloke and then later on see what it is all about. What if he had been told he is not playing again this year and maybe even will be delisted? So, what if thinking he is finished, he goes out for some drinks, leaving the hub and not intending to return to it, which he hasn't. In that scenario where is the Covid breach? Maybe that is not the scenario, but can we wait until we know exactly what happened, before we have him tried, convicted and retired from the AFL.

  9. Proves the theory that majority of AFL players are dumb meat heads. You'd think after the Richmond debacle they all would have learnt a lesson.. How wrong was I..

  10. How is this the end of the year for him? We could still play finals. If his season is done, go back to Melbourne. Don’t get [censored] outside the hub. Ffs some fans are far too forgiving. 6 million Victorians can follow rules but AFL players can’t?

  12. Just logged in to this thread after family obligations... what a pack of sad non-entities Demonlanders are at this time of night. Really, if you don't have an intellect that goes beyond "my team didn't win the premiership therefore I don't exist" then please, don't clog up what used to be an important part of a supporters weekly diet with your vomit!!!!

  13. As tempting as it is to compile a whole list of delistings, I don't think we need to be making the wholesale changes that North Melbourne have gone for. Smaller list sizes will certainly impact on how many we cut, but this is a terrible year to be making significant cuts. We have a poor draft/trade hand and this year's draft will be severely compromised through both academy selections and COVID ruining many seasons for young prospects (and VFL players). I expect the two Wagners and KK to get cut and I won't be surprised if Preuss or Tmac gets traded, but I suspect we'll be keeping Omac, Brown, and Smith, who I'm sure many will inevitably call to be sacked. They may not be world beaters, but it's far more valuable to have those players on the list as depth rather than a bunch of speculative 18-year-olds that have barely played competitive footy in 12 months. As for guys like ANB, Vanders and Spargo - I'm pretty confident they'll be on the list next year. The lack of VFL means it's hard to get a read on some of the youngsters like Dunkley, Chandler and Bradkte but I wouldn't be rushing to cut any of them unless they're genuinely showing nothing. In my eyes, Dunkley is still a first year player who we were lucky enough to pluck earlier than the rest. I think they promised Nietschke another year when he got his injury, and Jordon seemed to be coming along well before the late injury so I think they're both safe. Bedford could be a really interesting one. Getting dropped after both of his games isn't a good sign, but he did a few things in both games and we still haven't found the right forward balance. Jones and Jetta also loom as interesting ones. Jetta has another year on his contract but you would suspect retirement would be option. Jones has been debated elsewhere in great detail and there's probably pros and cons keeping him on regardless of the milestone figure. Bennell is anyone's guess. I hope we keep him, but it's a bit hard to say after everything that's just happened today. While some may disagree, I think we were a bit too aggressive with list changes after 2018 (another fairly injury-free year) with Pedersen, Bugg, Kent, Vince all going at once. When injuries hit us hard in 2019, our depth was shot and we were uncompetitive. I hope the footy department are a bit wiser this time around.

  14. Comparing to the 2019 debacle is clutching at straws. And a depressing assessment of our season to use wins over bottom of the ladder teams to find positives and suggesting games we lost were positives because we nearly won them. A more balanced view would acknowledge we nearly lost to Carlton, Giants and Saints. Its great that 2 or 3 players have improved and that we have a handful of excellent players but hardly a ringing endorsement of our list or performance. A few positives yes, but the season was a Fail. Simples.

  15. OK, so clearly Bennell made a poor decision and disregarded maniacal lockdown rules. I suspect he did it as he knew his season was over, but it flew in the face of the club, leagues and state protocols. It's disappointing when one considers the chance he's been given by the MFC. If Goodwin thinks he can get close to his best after a decent preseason then I'm sure he'll be retained. I'm interested in putting the best team out there to win games of footy and if he makes us better I want him there. If they think his legs are cooked then the decision is easy. The states are run by incompetent fools, of which the likes we've rarely been seen, however, their laws need to be respected, as do the requirements of the AFL and the MFC. It's a poor decision, but certainly one I can forgive. I suspect I'm in the minority and that the virtuous souls that post here would never err in such a way.

  21. It really is a nothing story but to be honest I never got why footy players/athletes were prone to this kind of behaviour. Combined with the desire to dress in women's clothes for "player review" type functions and it seems there's a lot of repressed stuff going on there

  24. WTF is wrong with most of you people? We had a simple assignment - to win - and despite the commentary it was never in doubt. We were in second gear for half of the match and stepped it up when we needed to. Assignment completed. Why complain?

  26. What are you on about? He was never on Collingwoods AFL list. He was recruited from their VFL team after winning back to back best and fairest. At one stage last year he was leading the AFL competition for intercept marks. Oscar is finished. 5 years on the list and has not improved one bit. Matter of fact he's gotten worse.

  27. I'm sure I'll get to the positives when I'm ready. Its not like 2017 where I was just gutted. I am more just super disappointed and frustrated at the same time. Its another year wasted. Which ever way you look at at it. We had a list that was injury free, and yet its stuff like team selections, and poor game day management is what continues to kill us.

  30. No toys were thrown out just making a point about individuals like yourself who try and discredit a person every time they post something. Hannebery left Sydney and we were in the frame but missed out, luckily I might add. It’s never a done deal until it’s signed as players change their minds, other clubs get involved or the club involved pulls out. I get told things that I’m happy to share as I enjoy the discussion and I know others do also.

  33. Yeah not really understanding this dribble about how we don't deserve to play finals. We beat st kilda, pies & giants all finals contenders or there abouts. Lost by under a kick to two 4 four teams. And just had a poor showing against Freo and Sydney. (Freo since have shown a lot of teams how much they are clicking) The dogs for [censored] sake lost to the blues by 10 goals looked no where near it against pies and saints however have snuck a decent ground out win against the Eagles and played well against us. Saints are the same had some horrible losses including norf, the Eagles B team at the Gabba , Freo, but again they have also had some great wins port and Richmond spring to mind. Who ever is in the 8 tonight deserves to be there.

  34. If he has stuffed up, my first instinct is that I feel sorry for him, particularly when faced with potentially career ending ramifications. I hope the Melbourne FC is able to help him where we can, whether he plays for us or not.

  37. This. The only response should have been "we are disappointed the players were not fully focused on Goodwin, but have no concerns with the actions as they are fully consensual, unlike other incidents which have been highlighted." It's really important that this is differentiated, because this apllies to non-football situations too. The problem is not touching. It is the lack of consent. As a society we really struggle with understanding this difference.

  39. Shepherding is non existent in our team and we NEVER perform well when the opposition pressure us. It’s been a massive problem for a very long time now Brownie and won’t improve next season either if no changes are made in the coaching department. TEAM FIRST needs to be the attitude of ALL players and needs to be drilled into them from the coaching department and based on what I have seen isn’t happening.

  40. Mihocek is the one that is gettable. Out of contract, and the Pies have salary cap problems trying to keep DeGoey, Moore and Daicos in the side.

  41. We are better with Bayley in the side and if he can get his kicking sorted out he will be around for a long time. He takes a lot of hits but always picks himself up and takes some very strong marks at critical times in a game as well as covering a lot of territory. I like what he brings to our side.

  42. Nice to have a sane, clear thinking poster. Too many, who winning an important game does not satisfy. They want perfection which sadly does not exist in the rigours of AFL football. Well spoken layzie.

  43. That's hilarious given the number of frees they failed to pay to us, not to mention a clear mark that they called touched then paid two identical marks to the bombers in the next couple of minutes. For my two cents' worth: I think Brown was up for it today to show his old side what they had lost and it was great to see. A huge game from him. Fritta needs to be put in the hands of a seriously good kicking coach to sort out his set shots. He should have had five today. Also a good gym program. If he can put on a little muscle and improve his fitness he'll be a great player. Baker is starting to look like he fits at this level. Has great pace and neat disposal. If he can improve his positioning to get more of the ball we're on to a good thing. I agree that Smith is not worth a spot in the side right now. He is a physical beast, but nothing much else. Overall, we basically played one quarter and trod water for a half and still won the game. You can say that we were ok or that the bombers were terrible. Possibly both.

  44. I opened this thread and realised I was in the wrong forum....sorry. Besides it was consensual touching. Trac guides Hunt’s fingers to the promised land. Nothing to see here. Amicable contest.

  45. He said he was pleased how we played... really we continued to have fade outs... saying they have given it their best shot to make finals really??? We lost to bottom sides vs the others in the 8 are winning to consolidate. The same issues continue lack of maintaining intensity eg 2017... they blew their chances once again

  46. AF if we are ever to bridge the gap with the likes of the Tigers or say the top 4,, part of what we are going to have to bring is some high level pressure inside 50 at ground level. As you say there's a little from the likes of Tracc, some from Kozzy in spurts. But it almost ends there for us. Funnily enough i think Brown and Hunt bring more of this to the team than a number of the usual culprits like Melk, Fritta and Spargo. Hannan probably the only other that brings this when he's on and who knows when he's going to be on. So many Dr Jekylls up forward

  49. What an uninspiring end to the season. We don't deserve to play finals. Not only is there a mental fragility to this group, but Goodwin can't get them going. Fancy needing to play one good quarter of footy, going into three quarter time with a handy lead and then the running stops and we go safely down the line. If it's not the players naturally going into their shells, it's Goodwin's coaching. It was such a typical facile Melbourne performance. Petracca, Oliver, Langdon, May, Lever, Salem and Hunt were great. Fritsch struggled to finish off the good work up ahead of him and it almost cost us the game, until he finally finished off the goal from 10m out. Loved the few glimpses of Kozzie today. He just had a little bit more cleanness that was noticeable. Rivers is fast becoming one of my favourites. Not only does he show great composure for a guy who's played 9 games, but he brings the tackle pressure. That tackle at a crucial moment basically won us the game. Our outside run in combination with their lack of defensive set up was good for three quarters. Our tackle pressure in the first half was really good and then dropped away, as if we couldn't be bothered, and as if we know that the Dogs will win tomorrow. I think I've seen enough now. If the club wants to sack Goodwin, I'll back them. We have enough good players, but the team as a whole switches off and when it's not allowed to play the game on its own terms all of a sudden within games, our guys don't know what to do. We've managed to eventually get games on our terms that have started by not being on our terms, but if we lead a game and then the opposition makes changes, we don't know how to counter it by trusting our system. Max talked about 'maturity' at the end of the game. That wasn't maturity. We completely went away from trusting the system and almost lost the game. I think we need changes.
