  1. Port Adelaide going in with the one ruckman. If we do not capitalise on this then you can almost shut up shop for the season. Can't stress how important our mids take advantage of Gawn this weekend.

  2. Well [censored] me that’s the last time I read the Facebook comments for a while. Numerous calls to drop Oscar. For T Mac. Who apparently should be moved back to defence. So essentially robbing both Peter and Paul, then kicking Peter in the nuts. And another bright spark chiming in with: “Weideman the ?,,, won’t be getting any cheap goes in the goal square like 2 weeks ago... hasn’t done nothing again” It’s like asking Cletus from the Simpsons what he thinks team selection should be.

  3. Good point. Tmac should be able take his share of down the line kicks from defence and give maxy a much needed chop out. Brisbane smashed him at every opportunity. The blues raised the issue of the treatment cripps cops, and no doubt with justification. But I doubt there is a player in the league that cops what maxy does. Im sure he wouldn't want it raised but the AFL should with the umpires, behind closed doors.

  4. Delighted to hear that! The official word. "Melbourne will now be the designated 'home' team. Melbourne play at Adelaide Oval in round 10 and will remain in Adelaide for the four days leading into the round 11 match vs North Melbourne". afl-moves-roos-dees-clash

  5. Can't argue with this. He is coming from a long way back and playing him in each of these games would heighten the risk of him injuring himself. While I'll miss his creativity forward of the ball, it's the right decision when thinking long term.

  6. Surprised at how many have jumped off the bandwagon TBH. He's given away a stupid 50 metre penalty and despite a near-flawless kicking technique, he's had a bad few weeks converting set shots (which even the best forwards go through at some point). Other than that, he's barely put a foot wrong since he was drafted. Gives our forwardline a real point of difference and will only get better.

  7. I was lucki enough to get 2 tickets to tomorrow’s game and can’t wait. Have a feeling we will beat port and I normally don’t have these types of feelings, so here’s hoping I’m right. Tbh not sure how many games will have crowds up here thanks to those two useless humans who didn’t think isolating applied to them. Will be interesting to see what happens and how fast it spreads.

  9. Not sure whether it was my whinging or not but someone was smiling on me today! I was one of the lucky ones that scored a ticket to the game tomorrow night! I feel very lucky and grateful to be able to attend two games in a row....first time since 2018 when I traveled to Melbourne for both finals and then Perth for that prelim we won’t talk about! I’m a very happy demons supporter tonight!

  10. Ins: Tom Mac, Sparrow Outs: Bennell, Jetta. Confirmed on the AFL site.

  11. Rubbish. His job is to coach the Melbourne Football Club. In this instance, he's protecting his player.

  12. Qld based member here too. Went to Metricon on Sunday for the Lions game and had the same experience from the club and ticketmaster when inquiring about tickets to tomorrow night's game. Based on that, have real concerns about getting to the Pies game as well which I'd assumed I'd be able to get a ticket to. Like most, absolutely staggered this is occurring. Massive opportunity to grow the game in Qld being missed. And on a personal level members like me who pay for a full membership every year despite never being able to get to more than 1-2 games are missing out on a rare chance to see a few more games. Gutted.
    4 points
  13. Amen to that brother. How can the AFL expect to grow the game in Qld when they impose these ridiculous restrictions. I am lucki to see anywhere between 1-3 games a season and now my team is here I could potentially miss out on watching them at a ground up the road. What a load of [censored]. It’s really disappointing and frustrating. This season is NOT ABOUT THE FANS but rather about saving money for the AFL.

  14. https://www.afl.com.au/news/453826/queensland-crowds-are-go-2000-in-for-gabba-metricon Article states that of the 2000 seats made available, 1850 were provided to Lions members and sponsors etc. 50 were provided to Eagles members and 100 to the general public. So why the bloody hell should the MFC have to go 50/50 in only 500 available seats for our home game against Port - it's rank.

  15. Gee Burgo is impressive. A great get. Also cudos again to Ben who does a good job with Talking Points. He is well prepared, asks intelligent questions and is respectful without being too obviously PR driven.

  16. FFS he is a 45 game player who is coming out of contract. No one is saying he is getting a godfather offer? Does anyone believe we should not sign in? Look at our out of contracts list which order you would sort them in. The earlier we tidy these no brainer decisions up the better for club and player.

  17. Max Hang on - if Lycett is still unavailable - who would be better in the ruck against Gawn - Ladhams, Hoff, Hayes? Max Gawn will beat us singlehandedly. Even Buzza would've been a better option than current form Westhoff. At least you know he would've gone at Gawn with some aggression. Gawn the big b*tch will be rubbing his moist [censored] knowing he could ruck just with his ******* head and still win the hit outs 100 to 0. Ladhams will be slaughtered by Gawn. I’ve got the VC on Gawn in SuperCoach. Melbourne by 60. Gawn will skullfu** us. Gawn would still be embarrassed by the way Lycett pulled his pants down last season and I expect he will go 100 mph from the first bounce down, so let's hope Ladhams and who ever his back up will be are up for it. Gawn please use no lube on Ladhams. I'm expecting 100+ hitouts. Gawn will rape us. Melbourne by 7 goals. We'll win 3 more games for the year and come 10th. Gawn will pillage Ladhams. We might as well have the centre bounce in their forward line. Gawn will do what Ryder did except he will play the whole game and their mids will destroy us. Good luck being a defender this week. Ken Season over. Ken's learned nothing. Sack Hinkley. Old Kenny is the Human embodiment of putting a square peg in a round whole. So let's recap: Too short in defence, Too slow in the middle, Playing injured/tired players, Picking experienced players that are way out of form, Only 1 genuine tall forward, Undermanned in the ruck. In summary, what can we take away from this? [censored] if I know. Sounds like our Ken. Yeah, our season is done. We'll lose the next 4 because Hinkley has learned nothing, and we'll then battle all season only to end up 9th. Sack Hinkley. Tipping Melbourne. Pretty safe tip now. Sack Hinkley. Classic Hinkley mentality - why bother trying to exploit an opposition's weakness when you can be equally as sh*t as them in that area? He really is a do nothing coach. I would love to know if Ken overrules the other coaches to our detriment. Mr 4 rounds of annual coaching ability is done for the year. Nothing like doing the same thing over & over and expecting a different result. Classic Ken. Everything else Surely Watts gets a shot soon, he’s exactly what we need with McKenzie and Marshall both out. Our defence is gonna get absolutely destroyed. Melbourne have a lot of slow clearance machines as well, so I think Rockliff and Wines will go ok. Port and the Dees should play for the Jack Watts memorial cup this week because I'm pretty sure he's dead. I think Rockliff in is ok vs Melbourne due to them essentially being a slow, big bodied midfield. Winning these next 4 games should put us in good stead for what is yet to come. If I wasn't loyal to the club Id be betting my house on Melbourne. I am keen to see what Watts can bring. Cannot be worse than the Hoff. If Jack Watts’ foot is still attached you’d assume he comes in. Not sure how it will go with wines and rock vs the explosive Oliver and Petracca. Christian Petracca is in incredible form and will eat Tom Rockliff (and Wines and Boak for that matter) for breakfast. This is the key ... But Melbourne are up there with Port in being their own worst enemy. I think the boys are stung from last week's loss, and will win this. How many lives has Justin Westoff got? Westhoff kicked 5 against the Dees last year. So there. Hahaha, Westhoff rewarded for poor form. What a sh#tshow. Gonna need a few drinks 4 this game.... and still wont make it enjoyable. I'd drop Ollie but they won't so if playing against his old mate Viney doesn't drag something out of him he should go water skiing forever and forget football.

  18. I am feeling so lucky to have been able to get a ticket to tomorrow nights game with my Dad and his mate. Really looking forward to it and us 250 or so Dees members that are going along will all have to barrack extra loud!!

  19. Mathematically yes. But lose tomorrow and it is mighty difficult in a 17 game season We blew last week. We had so many chances. Good sides do not do that

  20. Bennell looked tired in the last half especially last week. No zip. So a rest looks appropriate. Swallow deserves a go. TmC will stretch their backs. He and Jackson are mobile and can run all day. Looks like Port are backing their mids to flogg ours like the Lions mids did.

  21. I don't know what has gotten into the selectors of late they are making all the right calls. Tmac, Weideman and Action all in the same forward line looks scrumptious especially for the kick down the line to help elevate us under pressure it just looks dangerous. We could really go to another level tommorow night with all these options, they must have really looked into the way Brisbane smashed Port at the Gabba 3 weeks ago. Im feeling like Big Kev at the moment. I'm excited. Carn you mighty Rucking Dees.??

  27. They should put them in jail and give them a massive fine. Their behaviour is disgusting.
    3 points
  28. Surely if Sparrow is in, he's replacing Jetta. I would be mildly disappointed if both Jetta and Brayshaw held their spots. Whilst I'm all for pumping up Oliver's strengths, I can't accept this statement. IMO, Petracca's kicking this year (both at goal and in the field) have improved significantly whereas Oliver's have not. Oliver is still turning it over from relatively simple short kicks which he should, at his stage of his career, be more consistently making.

  30. Nowhere have I even implied this kind of thing. You strike me as the kind who gets 'jealous' that occasionally people hear things about the footy club. A glance through Demonland would tell you it's not a rarity for posters here to know people with club information given it's based in a town most of us live. Really don't understand why people get so upset about this scenario, isn't it why you come here in the first place? Yet if it's something you don't agree with then all of a sudden it can't possibly be true. You're welcome to have a look through things I've posted in this kind of vein to determine how reputable my information generally is, or you can just keep posting this kind of stuff if it makes you feel better. Have a good one.

  31. For what it's worth (probably not much) Tom Browne reported that we would be staying on in Adelaide between the 2 games.

  32. I'm just annoyed that those demonlanders who wanted Oliver dropped are being conveniently quiet now whilst giving Oliver no credit for being in our best few players for 3 weeks straight. So bloody fickle. Probably our best drafted mid for 20 years.

  33. Yes yes yes. Game at Metricon was ok. Staggering of rows actually was good. The loss was disappointing but great to get to a game. AFL has missed a chance to promote the game. Thursday night footy. A quiet beer at the Pineapple and then wander across. Ffs. Makes no sense to restrict crowd to 500. Better hope that Dees v Pies is setup for 10,000-12,000. Saturday night twilight blockbuster!!

  34. Seriously what the hell is that about. Surely that can't be right. Both metricon and the Gabba are free on the Sunday. What possible benefit is that to anyone? And leaving fairness aside, from a risk perspective it is completely ridiculous as it about 70 odd people traveling interstate with all the attendant flights, contact with people at airports etc etc. Talk about being shafted.

  35. I wonder if that's muscle strength, fitness, confidence, game style awareness or a mix of all the above. Anyway, hopefully all of them will improve with time.

  36. I remember being at Dallas Brooks and the passion in the room was something that I had rarely seen at games. My dad made me follow Melbourne, I only barracked for the dee's to go to the footy with him, otherwise I wasnt allowed to go. He was one of the drunks at the back of the second tier Olympic stand.. it beggars belief but he would drive home sometimes too. I remember being at Dallas Brooks and an old bloke said to me that if I had gone through all the [censored] years like him, i would vote yes too. Finally after all these years, I understand what he was talking about. I am glad that we didnt merge, though 2008-13 were really tough as a supporter, questioned my passion for the game Even though we have been [censored] and are a long way behind every other team I still love the Dee's, my first true love. The only thing that kills me these days is watching Hawthorn win premiership after premiership since the failed merger, while we continued with the status quo. Doesnt help that my brother is a Hawks fan either. Evan at 45 years of age, I still dream of us winning the premiership, always with a kick after the siren. I digress, great episode tho.

  37. I don't want to see Jacko dropped. Find a spot for Tmac, Jacko and Weed. Push Tmac up to high half forward for the extra bail out kick. We have nobody other than Gawn doing this and it's so predictable every time IN: Rivers, Tmac, Tomlinson, OUT: Jetta , Jones, Brayshaw

  38. https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2020/jul/28/premier-league-2019-20-what-we-learned-tactically-klopp-liverpool-guardiola-manchester-city?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other ive just read through this article and cannot help see some similarities as to what Goodwin is trying to do at the Dees... even if you’re not that interested in soccer, this is a great piece on how tactics fit into soccer more generally, and how certain elements fit into our game. Particularly the high press. timely with this new EPL thread

  39. You can easily argue that, over the years, we've made some poor choices with off field personnel. However, we've got it right with Burgess. Not only is our injury list one of the best in the league (and when was the last time we could say that?) but we are fit and firing. We are running out games strongly and we never look tired. Burgess was brought in to get the fitness aspect right, and while he doesn't dictate how we kick a footy or the decisions we make on the field, he has put the players in the best possible position to get the best out of themselves, and he has to be commended for that.

  41. Bizarre that there's actually supporters who legit think we shouldn't be giving contracts to talented players like Fritta. Can't wait until he hits the 80-100 game mark. I was filthy on him on the weekend for the 50. But there no doubting his talent that's for sure.

  42. Crazy post binman. Cameron is very quick and was on the burst the fact that Oliver stayed with him and perhaps even gained a bit on him was evidence of his pace. For context, see these screen shots of top speed and distance run yesterday.

  43. Learning from the best in Klopp, alot of people on here wouldn't like hearing that. We have tightened up at the back this year, Jurgen could be rubbing off on Simon, just waiting for the Forward line to click into gear. Could Tmac back in the line up unleash a 3 pronged Tall Forward line and take us to the promise land? One can only sit back and hope.

  47. I actually genuinely think the Kozzy hit was called simply because of how it looked aggressive. Which is absolute rubbish. Its so frustrating when a young player shows such ferocity defensively which we should be praising instead now the talk will be around him taking more care with his tackling (the sling one). Overall it was a really ugly game umpiring wise. Would have been hard to umpire but I thought there were a few where the umpire was too quick with the whistle. Brisbane were doing some pretty ugly things off ball and even in contest: dropping full weight on players on the ground, using arms a lot in contests shoving and I don't feel the umpires picked up a lot of it.
