  1. I've reported people name calling people of Asian decent "ching chongs" to Facebook before and all the weak [censored] did was hide the post from me - pathetic. Then there is the rubbish claim that these social media behemoths that make billions off advertising revenue, undermine legitimate media (whom are held far more accountable to standards of conduct and legal responsibility for their publications) cannot afford to or can not practically police racism on their platform. Racism exists and thrives on social media, precisely because it is tolerated and people can hide behind anonymity. This enables and encourages racism within society in general. FU Facebook, Twitter etc.

  2. Get over it? How many times in his life do you think Neville has been expected to 'get over it'? Those micro-aggressions add up. The 'get over it attitude' makes it the problem of the target. It is not Neville Jetta, Eddie Betts or Adam Goodes job to 'get over' cheap shots from racists. It's our job to be a better football community.

  4. Small Children are not Racist, Society does that over time, depending on influences. It’s a slow job as Axis has said my Generation was a lot more Racist than todays 25 year olds and so on it is exactly why Black Lives Matter now exists But there are lots of people who still don’t like it, hopefully that number dwindles

  5. With the shorter Quarters and longer breaks betwwen goals and quarters Max will ruck 95-98% of game time, he will get a small chop out form either Tmac or Tomilson. What is needed is a smaller quicker running team, Goody is ahead of the currve. How many tall forwards are kicking bags of goals this year. None in the top 10 of the coleman.

  6. Correct, it is disgusting and it's unacceptable on several levels: 1. The individual's that hide behind the mask of anonymity and commit these unacceptable racist trolling activities and 2. The social media firms that hide behind the veil of free speech, freedom of the internet from censorship and or an inability to police this activity. Free speech is very different from racist trolling and hate speech.

  7. For starters, all clubs are heavily impacted by what’s going on, so it’s not the fault of Melbourne. Geelong said they’ll be over $10 million in debt soon for crying out loud. We’re certainly in a better position than the likes of st Kilda as well, and the other clubs will have a similar fundraising program going on, so not sure why the aim is being taken at the club here.

  8. I could not find a thread but this man demands our respect. There are so many stories that are better told by others but perhaps the ultimate tribute is that he left the game in a better state than when he entered. Few are his equal and we are lucky to have one such man in RDB. Cherish them while they live and value their contribution thereafter.

  11. Thank god we don’t have Demonland users selecting the side. Jetta has been subpar and Lockhart has been banging down the door and should absolutely be playing. Good call Yes we don’t have a second tall but both Hannan and Fritsch fly for the footy and play taller than they are. We always have too many blokes flying anyway. Tomlinson will backup ruck and Vanders will play wing when he does

  12. To me it looks a better side than the first 2 games.

  13. This sums us up perfectly in my opinion. I’m sure a large number of DemonLanders would agree, at least to a certain degree: Demons are a bull at a gate type of team with players like Oliver, Viney & Brayshaw in the middle. They’ve brought in width with Langdon & Tomlinson, yet still butcher the ball going forward and run forward of the ball and get exposed the other way. If they put it together they can blow us away, yet they’re very inconsistent and poorly coached. They’re definitely a mood team.

  14. I think and hope everyone posting in this thread and on Demonland agree on two things. 1) We all loathe racism 2) Nev is a great ambassador for the Dees and indigenous people. You have an army behind you Nev.

  15. If Max plays 95% of game time, it will still be less than what he would've played in last years full length quarters.

  16. Lucky we’re not playing St Kilda. On paper, we’ve put out a pretty solid team. No point playing Weideman just for the sake of adding some extra height in the forward line if the coaches don’t think he’s ready to step up to the senior side yet.

  17. Why is it ridiculous? One thing we have is depth. We have a number of players who are equally bad at getting the job done. This season is already for the advertising. Anytime your B team is competitive with your A team it means they are very interchangeable. I see little problem with running a few numbers through a few games to see if anyone is so inspired to grab the opportunity to make a career. If we get nothing more than a couple of A team regulars that have earned their place, then it will be real progress.

  18. Nev has been an amazing Demon.. but his propensity to keep flying for the ball suggests he is done.. too slow when the ball hits the ground. Nev and Jones out is sad but makes our team a lot more quicker.

  19. Given we didn't play last week and will already be a little underdone, and playing at the big ground like the MCG, it makes perfect sense not to play Bennell. We can't afford to carry too many underdone players.

  20. You may not change that one person's view but as kids grow up seeing their heroes calling out this behaviour then it changes their feeling towards racism. The process is slow but look at the difference in attitudes compared with 30 years ago and the difference is stark. It's a lot like losing weight .... You don't notice the change as it happens because it happens slowly, far more slowly than you want, and there are hiccups along the way, but you just need to keep moving in the right direction day after day, year after year until you eventually end up in a better place. The post isn't for jayden238, it's for the prevention of future jayden238s.

  21. Barlett's letter has a significant line: "We want to avoid having to seek additional financial support from the AFL, and therefore, become an “assisted club”. This will ensure we are able to independently make key strategic decisions..." Until now 7 clubs have opted to be 'unassisted': WCE, Adelaide, Richmond, Hawthorn, Bulldogs, Pies and Ess via using cash reserves or borrowing. I would hardly put us in that category ie the so-called, 'rich' clubs. The Age reports a consideration for AFL assistance is "...clubs have to show they have exhausted cash reserves, or even the potential to borrow, before they can access the AFL loan". AFL Assistance Will any club qualify for assistance on that criteria? As we had some $7m in Financial Investments (as at 30/10/2019) and a valuable asset in the Bentleigh club to borrow against, we may be ineligible for the AFL funding program. Tough if that is the case as we are one of the poorest clubs in finances and facilities. Or have we chosen to not participate thereby avoiding AFL scrutiny of every penny we spend?. If being 'unasissted' was our choice I would like to understand why we feel our finances will hold up given our falling memberships, 2019 loss etc. If it was 'imposed' by the AFL I am worried that we will come out of this poorer by using up the remaining Leighoak cash and mortgaging the Bentleigh club. Good question for Bartlett next week.

  22. Donated. Despite the horrendous on field record over the years, I don't know what I'd do without looking forward to watching our team play. For those saying they won't donate until the club shows some results. There won't be any results if they can't afford to exist.

  23. My explanation for Harley is that his program management was already mapped out for a 2:1 play and miss at this stage. And this may be the plan fir the next block of three games till later in The season or occur fir the the whole season! Last weeks intraclub was matchlike In time And tberefore he has played 2 games and now needs a rest in his 2020 program. Liken it to a horse having a very serious track gallop if th races are cancelled and is on a schedule fir the major Cup races. The plan in fitness is not altered. I don't have any doubt what Goody said and it has proved truthful. Why doubt it Picket???and etc!!! Kossie Angus Jacko and Lockhart (or Jonesy for Jacko) I expect to be the changes. Nev is off the boil but will come back Smithy is very lucky but FD and Goody seem determined to give him a favourable run. Time will tell but I also hope he has to switched forward during the match. Maybe to win the game. We need to play well and be competitive vs Cats after last year and to get our season really started seriously. Win the rucks and mids go to town with pressure and ball carry so their defence is under pressure all day. Pace is one of the keys and ball movement essential and Kossie and Jay and Angus plus the wingers must play boldly. Lets see it will be fascinating. Go Dees

  26. They have a healthy list to choose from and have stated they are unclear what is our best combo. Most have stated our backline has not looked right And our forward line has not functioned well bar one quarter. We need to quickly shake it up to find the right dynamic and then settle it as fast as we can. I personally think we are a set up one tall forward short. I also hope Hibberd back in will allow Harmes back into the midfield rotation. Otherwise I have no issue with what they are doing to try to get the right mix.

  27. 3 of the ins and 3 of the outs are exactly the same as last week. Added to that this week is Jetta/Bennell out and Lockhart/Hibberd in Most thought Lockhart was stiff to miss selection last werk and if Hibberd coming in means Harmes can get back to the middle, then isn't that a good thing?

  28. Í" just get over it" I would say that my tolerance of people with mental problems was not as good as it could have been, I have tended to say oh just get on with life. But recently I had a bout of serious physical ill health that went on for months. After some time it affected me mentally not serious but still I discovered what it was like to walk in someone else's shoes. Easier said than done " just get on with it".

  29. The solution to the issue is to have a proper verification process for social media accounts. If these people had to use their real name we would hardly ever see these type of comments.

  30. It's terrible, but extremely difficult to stamp out. 'jaydeen238' is a troll account, no posts, not following anyone, and just followed by two other troll accounts. He'll spend all day online being 'edgy; and offensive and it'd be his dream come true if one of his comments is picked up by mainstream media. It puts everyone in an almost impossible position - calling him out, getting into and argument, or raising his profile is exactly what he wants you to do... so what can you do?

  31. Play your best mid in the middle. Not rocket science. When the chips are down and a player needs to step up - its always Harmes. Harmes, Petracca and Oliver is a hell of a midfield. Wouldn't be beat often. Harmes runs both ways, Oliver is starting to as well which is scary.

  35. I can only suggest that when they reviewed that game and the way we fell away in the second half, they decided we aren't in a position to carry a player who isn't 100% match fit.

  36. Feels weird playing a game this weekend. Usually we play once every 3-6 months.

  37. Goodwin continues to persist with playing harmes in the back line where he struggles. He has a great pair of hands and has good pace and is best suited to a FF position IMO especially since tmac is offering nothing and we have no reliable tall options. Put him one out in the square and he will dominate, and can rotate through the mid as needed but keep him the hell away from the back line, just like fritsch was wasted there.

  38. It amazes me the strident certainty with which people post about the coach, team and player performance and role, after ONE GAME in 3 months... which we won. if “Old Dee” and “Picket fence” recon Harley out is a mistake, and have us getting beat by 5, I have to go VDB and Hannan to kick 5 between them and we’ll beat the [censored] in a canter in Sunday.

  39. I'm assuming you're white, Fork 'em? To say "just get over it and move on" is white privilege. It's so easy, but ultimately hurtful and extremely unhelpful, for a white person to tell non-white people to "just get over it".

  40. Lets hope Nev and his family are ok. Nev has done more for our community than this pathetic and cowardly individual sitting behind a keyboard. I watched Eddie Betts the other night, it was harrowing. It's terrible he, or anyone else, has to deal with this disgraceful stuff.

  47. they probably had a plan in place to give Bennell a two game run then a break. just happens one of those games was a makeshift one instead of the real thing, but he would of got the same result out of it. not a big deal imo as Burgess clearly knows what he's doing.

  48. The club has said that Bennell was left out as he’s not quite at match fitness and is still being managed. Fair enough considering he only managed 50% game time in round two. He’s building.
