  1. Essendon knock back AFL assistance in bid to remain independent. Dons knock back cash injection would've made a better headline.

  2. Can't always be certain who played particular games pre-1897, but if you replace Leith with Herb Fry you can get back to the first official MFC match via seven more steps. Herb Fry (1889-1898) George Strachan (1883-1890) Charles Baker (1876-1883) John Bennie (1865-1876) William Aitken (1864-1866) George Tait (1863-1864) Sydney Wooley (1859-1863)

  4. That’s wrong about Eishold. I think all his critics are like my mates who say they never watch replays of losses. Eishold marked the ball on the sideline of the square about 4 meters out. Umpire David Howlett, who had been influenced in his decisions all day by the experienced Hawthorn players, ran in from 60 m away , and decided he marked it about half a metre out, so put him on an acute angle. It should have been an absolute “gimme”,but Howlett made it a very difficult shot. No wonder Eishold was nervous , when he had about a 1 metre target to thread it through. Eishold had an excellent kicking technique, and had shown himself previously to be an accurate shot for goal. t

  5. I have a lot of admiration for Tingay but Jakovich was just too much of a rare talent to vote against. Not the easiest of polls this one.

  6. https://www.sen.com.au/news/2020/04/13/lifting-the-draft-age-to-19-a-no-brainer-beveridge/ Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge believes the AFL should use the COVID-19 situation to raise the draft age to 19. With underage pathways and leagues not running because of the virus and a situation where list sizes may be reduced, limiting the need for a draft in 2020, Beveridge believes it is time to pull the trigger. “It’s an absolute no-brainer (to lift the draft age). I mean, every other year as much as I’ve advocated for the draft age to be lifted, I was finding it hard to work out how you would actually do it,” he told SEN’s Whateley.

  7. Thanks 'hardtack'...I've been lucky enough to see Buddy solo (at the Corner Hotel) and also with Emmylou...and almost forgot also saw him with Steve Earle's band at the Central Club Hotel in Richmond. They are a great music couple...

  8. Here are a couple of tunes featuring guys that occasionally play with my band. The first one features a guy going by the name of George Washingmachine on fiddle, the second features a guy name Jy-Perry Banks (and his brother Zane Banks on vocals) who I consider to be one of the best pedal steel players I've seen or heard, and the third as well as featuring Jy, also features a guy named Johnny Gauci on keyboards.

  10. Sheesh, we’ve had some serious talent over the years. Who remembers Tingay’s transformation from a skinny little kid to a beefed up machine? I feared for some opposition players the way he tackled them sometimes. I also remember him having around 16 possessions in the first quarter of the 94 prelim at the WACA before they took him out of the game with some kind of dodgy taking of the legs for memory? Unlucky he’s up against Jako here.

  11. Tingay is a very underrated player; fast, tough, skilful, whose careers was derailed by injury... but it’s a very difficult ask for any child of the 90s to vote against Allen Jakovich.

  12. Tingay was a gun but this one is no contest! Jakovich probably my favourite ever Demon, I was 9 when he debuted and he was just electrifying. Perfect mix of being able to kick goals from anywhere, being an absolute larrikin and giving it to Collingwood supporters.

  15. One of the few benefits of the lockdown is some of the music on Youtube...Tom Bukovac is one of Nashville's top session players. His wife Sarah is a singer & writer. He's a big prog fan so not surprisingly has covered an early Genesis tune and another from Jethro Tull...enjoy "Ripples" - Genesis "Wond'ring Aloud" - Jethro Tull

  23. I enver really got to see much of them playing, but Stephen Tingay's recipe for a chicken cacciatore in the Trevor Barker memorial cookbook (I forget the name of the book - it might just be 'AFL cookbook') was a real winner and very easy. Also quite forgiving of lazy cooks like me with a tendency to wander off and do other things.

  32. My football philosophy for the last 30 odd years is to think the opposite of whatever Mick Malthouse says. Sure, he's coached a few teams to Premierships in that time, but I've been immensely happier ignoring his curmudgeonly commentary.

  38. I cannot give the absolute commendation to a mob that has continuously shown incompetence at every stage of its desperate reactions. They rushed to use Christmas Island which was a reasonable response initially and then allowed people to enter the border with liittle oversight or control. They could not appreciate the importance of stopping the most important boat. They instigated an economic crisis with no idea that Centrelink would be overwhelmed. The on line networks which had previously struggled are now being overwhelmed. They allowed hairdressers to operate but few others . They are allowing confusion and fear through discretionary action. They have allowed states to isolate themselves and promoting differences while saying we are all in this together. They have approved a large amount of money to fund programs for 6 months with little oversight . They have not indicated how these funds will be generated.. Free child care for 6 months is fine but what will happen at the end of that time. There has been no indication how our football club will be able to continue after their (the governments) action. There may ell be a heap of money left over if restrictions are eased earlier than 6 months as our health system capacity is lifted to cope with a health problem that is controlled through control and testing of incoming people., testing and tracking emerging admissions, and isolating at risk sectors. Perhaps the money left can be allocated to significant blue areas that do give them absolute commendation. Their may be some merit in your suggestion.
