  1. Read into this what you will: "Goodwin said one positive to take from the enforced hiatus was that Aaron vandenBerg, Nathan Jones, Christian Salem, Harrison Petty, Mitch Hannan and Harley Bennell would all be fit to return from injury when the AFL action resumes." https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-2020-return-to-training-date-may-4-afl-clubs-return-season-shutdown-when-will-the-afl-season-resume/news-story/797bbe056823eef8f212bdb0631e2656

  2. That's a good effort getting the Geelong 'born and brewed' beer sponsoring the Dees. Bad luck [censored]!

  3. Just pointing out that this thread is about Harley - not our game plan etc.

  4. I welcomed a couple of Furphy’s to my face yesterday over a bbq (at home, with the family) and it was grand. Well done Dees.

  5. Foolishly, I'll bite. If analysing the number of cases through time isn't an informative way to model a health crisis, can you suggest what might be? Call me crazy, but I'd suggest that the world's leading medical scientists might actually be somewhat clever, and have a better grasp of their models than random posters on a footy forum. Also, you're truly delusional if you think the economic impacts were in any way avoidable. Governments don't tank economies for fun.

  7. Yes I probably had written him of as well, BUT Never say never, If he was to get on the park again it would put a smile on a lot of peoples faces around here and give great cause for optimism. GO HARLEY! Time the great Healer! This time of even better for him!

  8. I'm a Furphy fan, it's not a special beer but it goes back easy enough and doesn't break the bank. I'm happy they've got on board and the club should be congratulated for continuing to bring in support.

  9. Based on the Herald Sun rankings on Dees the best players from 1987-2020 I've been running a tournament on our Social Media accounts. I decided to make this competition from 1988 to 2020 because lets face it Robbie Flower would probably win hands down. Here is the Fixture: Yesterday was the first Matchup between Garry Lyon (265) and Ricky Jackson (39). Today sees Brad Green take on Cameron Bruce. You can either vote by going to our Facebook or Twitter pages or for convenience you can vote in the poll above. I will create a new thread each day and will merge the threads together once the voting day is complete. The two heroes of the final quarter of the 2000 Qualifying Final against Carlton. Brad Green: MFC Captain 254 Games 350 Goals 2010 Keith Bluey Truscott Trophy Cameron Bruce: 224 Games 210 Goals 2008 Keith Bluey Truscott Trophy

  10. I'm taking the conservative line Wadda ... buckled up for the long haul and am taking no risks. If we want to thoroughly beat this virus we have to be thorough. Each and every one of us. Find stuff that stimulates the mind rather than occupies the mind. I'm still working of course and am flat out busy. So that helps enormously but that's just me. The continuation of racing is fabulous ... more time to do the form if one is bored!

  11. Not much chance of the Dees getting within 1.5 to 2m of other players ! The ultimate social distant team...... Now im being mean.......yeah would like to see the F1 back at some stage ....NRL talking about May 28, but possibly just speculating to keep sponsors on board, cant see it happening, not with the amount of cases in NSW anyway. Somebody somewhere did an algorithm that says VIC virus free in 1 month......but others saying forget 2020 and concentrate on 2021....hard to know what to believe atm.

  12. Normality within the abnormality Wadda ... contact sport would be asking for trouble but the racing & e-Sports can continue (at least for now) Really enjoyed the iRacing (V8's) on Wednesday - it was a lot of fun. And it continues for the next 10 weeks (7pm Wednesday's - Foxtel & 10Play) Here's hoping they do the same with the F1's. Cricket & Baseball can go close but the players would still encroach the 1.5 metre or 2.0 metre social distancing ruling. And the 'Hubs' idea can go completely pear-shaped with regards to other sports with just 1 positive test. An accident waiting to happen. I like our 3 picks too ... been doing ok at Sha Tin and with JJ's tips out of Morphettville. Have a lookout for James' tips later in the card ... he tipped the last 2 winners last Saturday (both 6-1 shots) Go to racing.com at about 10am Saturday's for his tips.

  13. It wasnt a disaster from a contested ball perspective , a fitness perspective or from a score perspective. Losing by 5 goals to the eagles in perth is no disaster. But the style they played with, the way they moved the ball forward and the fact that the game was over at qtr time was a disaster. I think we all felt let down because after the build up over the summer, precious little was different from the worst of 2019.

  17. The idea that AFL players and support staff live in an isolated bubble is absurd. I know for a fact that some players were out and about socialising and taking selfies with non football people on the weekend of the first games. Then we have the idiots at North and Geelong who thought it was a great idea to have parties. This is not a smart idea, Shepherd is right to be sceptical.

  18. While extremely disappointed, with the result, I was mostly disappointed with the way we sent the football into the F 50. Or how uncoordinated our forwards were, in relation to the ball carries coming down the ground. All we seemed to do was blast it high and long towards the goal area and the eagles raffled it and sent it back. Given that, the balance of the side did well for most of the game, some wins some losses, the forwards or more particularly the method of entry into the F 50, a few wins more losses. That has not changed for yonks, I go to a match and have no idea who will kick the goals for us, it seems futile some times....

  22. The WC game wasn’t a disaster. People need to realistic and understand how good WC is, especially is Perth. We matched them for 3 qtrs in a game they knew would be their last. Can people not imagine the anxiety the players might have had knowing borders were closing and the need to get home. Understandably WC were in a similar position but they were already home.

  24. Must confess I'm finding this whole isolation thing a bit of a challenge, so much so that I've started to talk to inanimate objects around the house. I tried to discuss the situation with the microwave but it just keeps going around in circles. The toaster thinks we’re toast. I didn’t mention anything to the washing machine as it puts a different spin on everything. Certainly not to the fridge as it is acting cold and distant. The iron straightened me out and said no situation is too pressing, but it still left me feeling a little flat. The vacuum was very unsympathetic… told me to just suck it up but the fan was more optimistic and hoped everything would blow over soon. The toilet looked a bit flushed when I asked its opinion and the doorknob told me to get a grip. I lost it when wheelie bin gloated it’d been out more than me, the front door said I was becoming unhinged and the curtains told me to pull myself together.

  29. I've been rewatching all the replays I have from season 1988. Just finished the home and away season last night, our two wins over the Pies in home and away were great particularly the one at the G late in the season, we steamrolled them. We then got belted by the Hawks at Waverley and lost another 4 in a row after that (to the Eagles in Perth, Richmond!, Footscray at the G and the Bombers at Windy Hill) before cementing a finals spot in the last round beating Carlton in a game that went down to the last 10 minutes or so. We're top 2 or 3 for a lot of the season and threw it away with that run of losses. We also got belted by the Swans at the G in round 15 a week after beating Geelong in Geelong. 2 or 3 losses there that should've been wins and cost us a double chance during the finals. Now to get on and watch the 3 finals wins - do I dare watch the Grand Final? I've only seen it once since watching live as a 6 year old and I reckon I didn't even watch the 2nd half that day. I think I'll have to for completeness sake but it will be a bitter watch.

  31. you're right dc but having been to Bangladesh a few times it is a complex issue. The garment industry has greatly assisted in the liberation of the women of Bangladesh and has enabled them to put food on the table for their families. Like Filipinos their menfolk provide a very large proportion of foreign labour in the Gulf and South East Asia. Yes it's a horrible life but compared to poverty levels of thirty years ago it's a big improvement. As an aside the Bangladeshi workers love a protest march. The marches are lead by drummers and the must have is an elephant !! An amazing site on the streets of Dhaka

  32. green for me; didn't walk out on us to get a longer deal, a better user of the pill than bruce, whose ball drop was horrific mind you, if brent guerra hadn't buried green into the carpark against the aints when he was in electric form, smashing his shoulder in the process, bruce was showing the hallmarks of having a star season that year never recovered

  33. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-52146507 "In normal times, Vijay Mahtaney and his partners Amit Mahtaney and Shawn Islam employ a total of 18,000 workers in three countries - Bangladesh, India and Jordan. But the outbreak has forced them to shut down the majority of the business, with just one factory, in Dhaka, partially operational. Coronavirus lockdowns aren't the only thing affecting their ability to pay their workers. They say their main problem is unreasonable demands from big clients - mainly in the US and the UK. "Some brands are showing a true sense of partnership and high level of ethics in trying to ensure at least enough cash flow to pay workers," Amit Mahtaney, the chief executive of Tusker Apparel Jordan, told the BBC. " "But we've also experienced demands for cancellations for goods that are ready or are work in progress, or discounts for outstanding payments and for goods in transit. They are also asking for a 30 to 120 day extensions on previously agreed payment terms." In an email obtained by the BBC, one US retailer has asked for a 30% discount "for all payables - current or order", including those already delivered. The reason they cite is to "get through this extraordinary period". "Their attitude is one of protecting only shareholder value without any regard to the garment worker, behaving in a hypocritical manner, showing complete disregard to their ethos of responsible sourcing," Vijay Mahtaney said. "Brand focus on share price, now means some of them don't have money for this rainy day, and are coming to the weakest link in the supply chain, asking us to help them out when they could be applying for a bailout from the US government stimulus package," Vijay added.

  38. No, we all share it, the blame, just as we all share the planet. What happens of the planet by our doings, is all our responsibility. So, I say all religions, politics, and philosophy's are to blame... in short, all educated people are at fault, for it all. good and bad. Negativeness, = Greed and Fear (see religions western), are the fault of humans, and of all the above.

  43. They're not though - every relevant health expert is saying "At this early stage, we don't really know. But based on x and y, our best guess is z." Huge difference. Of course ethics/ economics etc come into it, but we can't hit the big red button and send everyone back to work until we've got a bit of an idea as to what the likely health ramifications will be. Jumping back into a pandemic won't magically fix the economy, either. I don't think anyone's trying to hide it from the public. It's an encouraging sign, sure, but nothing has changed, really. The moment the public stop taking it seriously, we'll be back in exponential growth territory - with no guarantees we can get it under control again. It shouldn't be cause for celebration. I think most of us are in a state of shock as to how well all sides of Aus politics have handled this so far (aside from the cruise ship fiasco). Amazing, really, what can be achieved when politicians actually act in the interests of the people they're supposed to represent rather than the usual petty infighting and point-scoring. It'd be nice if we remember that when we come out the other side of this.

  45. Yep, Robbie was the best player in my lifetime - with L Mattews and M Blight following up in sequence. For the MFC since Robbie, it would be more than difficult to rank those mentioned above in any agreed sequence. Heart and soul says to me, the following first three: Lyon, Stynes, The Ox.
