  1. Keilty has lost a lot of confidence after the Gold Coast game He was playing really strong VFL football at the start of the year too Footys hard boys but I’m glad he at least got to play in 2 AFL wins

  2. Thrilled with Petty's game. And yes, May has officially won me over. Showed more desperation, intent and care for the club than Hogan ever did.

  3. Smith dropping the ball cold without being penalised was a fitting way to kill the game. I don’t know if the solution is full time umpires or tougher reprimands for poor performance, but umpiring like that makes a mockery of the sport. The club absolutely must ask for an explanation about the Gawn frees. A disgrace.

  5. Max was crucified by the umpires - something has to be said. How he doesn’t lose it each week is beyond me.

  6. Trac’s getting better every week, including his set shots. He was one of our best players and managed to break through Bulldogs players on numerous occasions. Instead of blaming him for the loss, praise him for assisting with keeping us in the game.

  7. Yawn... ...of all the things in the game to pick on - it is a kick from a player who was one of our best today and has been most of the year. This thread is just another excuse to get stuck into a player some people don't like. It has become embarrassing. He wears our beloved red and blue and works his heart out every week. Give him a break.

  8. After witnessing the winning performances in this round of two other clubs heavily affected by injuries - Collingwood and Essendon - all I can say is the time for making excuses is well and truly over.

  9. Harry Petty > Tony Lockett. Fair effort given the form the Dogs are in and the outs that we have. You can see the potential in our side, we just need to get the cattle on the park at the same time. It will happen. Someday. Watch us roll the Weagles up in Alice next week when Petty kicks 9 on McGovern.

  10. Gripping game - a real arm wrestle. Low skills but super tightly contested. Never really felt like we might win, but never felt like they were going to skip away either. Loved Petty as a temporary forward - it’s definitely an option to continue to explore for the rest of the year. Development year, so what better time? Goodwin rolled the dice moving May forward and it nearly worked. He is such a beast. I’m a huge fan. Preuss has ten thumbs. He actually reminds me of pre-breakout Gawn. He WILL be a useful tandem with Gawn, but isn’t yet. Also Gawn was no good when not in the ruck. All in all, just another loss really.

  12. I have never seen any other ruckman penalised with this rule. Ever. Stop being so tall and strong Max. The ruck rules state that that you cannot block another player from contesting the ball in a ruck contest. That is completely fine. Just pay it every time. All anyone wants is consistency.

  13. Today was a perfect example of what has seen us rooted to the foot of the ladder, but similarly, the problem holds the answer to how we can bounce back quickly next year. The key reason we lost today was our impotence at ground level in our forwardline, both from a ground-ball-gets capacity and from a tackling pressure standard. It means that we end up doing most of our defending in our back half. This is unsustainable. We need to be looking at what Geelong did over the last off season. They injected 3 or 4 players into their forwardline that apply manic pressure, provide x factor and generally create a contest that enables them to lock the ball inside their 50. Due to our midfield dominance, we will bounce back quickly if we address this severe and obvious flaw in our game and our best 22. I'd look at trying to lure 1 or 2 zippy forwards from the likes of Richmond, and then add some more class through the midfield with our first pick in the upcoming draft. It seems crazy to say it given how poor we've been this year, but with a fit list to choose from, I think we can bounce back, but it's up to Goody and whoever our new high performance manager ends up being. The high performance program needs to be top notch, we need to be relatively injury-free and Goodwin needs to develop a more rounded and adaptable game style. In regards to the game today, I thought Petty's marking (just as it was last week) was impressive and I like his relaxed kicking action. He's another Lever. I'm excited by what we could see from him in the future, but also over the next 6 weeks. Petracca continued to provide a good contest in the forward half and should have had at least 2 goals today. His ball drop ensured he didn't have an easy third goal around the body. I've never seen such a skilled player fail to kick the ball around his body like Petracca does and I can only assume it's a ball drop thing. I can't remember him ever kicking a snap around his body that has goaled. He's missed plenty doing this though. Most AFL players find this the easier option, so it is a little baffling. Still, he continues to show consistency, which is all I would ask of him this season. I thought as a team, we tried to lower our eyes a lot more going inside 50 (this is a trend at Marvel - we tend to do this more), but I think we played the wrong game style for Marvel and the Bulldogs. Due to our slow play, we allowed the Bulldogs to consistently get numbers behind the ball and make us kick to a contest. However, when we moved the ball quickly and played on, we looked a million dollars. I liked that Goodwin finally threw Fritsch forward (he should have had three goals in just over a quarter) and May, but I think Goody has a bit to learn about game style. Knowing when to play slower and knowing when to go. For the most part, you need to go quickly against the Bulldogs and for the most part, it pays off on a small ground like Marvel. The other thing about our game from back to front is that we are one of the only teams who never look to set up for the switch. We don't have a dominant contested markers (Max is good floating down back, but rarely gets it done on the wings or in the forward half), yet we end up being highly predictable, kicking it down the line and often surrendering possession as a result. With May, Lever and even Hibberd in the team now, we should be using their penetrating kicking to switch more often. I think it was @titan_uranus who was saying in another thread today that if we bring a new brand of defensive pressure to our forwardline, we will climb back up the ladder relatively quickly. I agree and I hope Goodwin is thinking similarly.

  17. I would be interested in seeing how many here, who want to get rid of Weid, would take Tom Hawkins? Tomahawk played about 5 very good games in his first 100, in a very good team, and was a man mountain to start with. Weid has played 30 odd games, between injuries, in a team that bombs the ball in to the fwd50 and refuse to lower their eyes and hit a leading fwd. ??‍♂️ We improve our fwd entries and Weid will look better.

  19. I ignore umpiring mistakes normally as it’s a hard game to umpire and I know I’m going to be one-eyed like every other footy fan in the country, but this made me rage. An umpire of 200+ games experience calling this garbage. Far out. I did like “that’s ruck craft, big boy” though. Hopefully the umpires get some coaching on this rule during the week.

  20. Ok i will start with the positives; - Petty was great up forward. Some good strong marks and a accurate kick for goal. If the coaching staff were smart, they would train him in the forward groups during pre season. - Felt lik the Gawn/Preuss worked well. Preuss was close to clunking those marks up forward. I would play these 2 for the rest of the year. - I actually thought Petracca played well along with Hunt. -Lockhart did a good job on JJ -Good to have Lever back. - This is not so much a positive but i didnt mind Fritsch playing on around his body. Thinking he was just trying to get a quick goal so we could still have enough time. Btw he looked good up forward for once.. who would have thought? Negatives: - Alex Neale Bullen is by far the biggest joke of a footballer. i have been calling this since last year and got shut down. He KILLS momentum with his diabolical disposal and always fumbling and loaing his feet. Needs to be traded at years end. After watching Casey today, Baker or Wagner has to come in for this plonk. - Did Hannan even play? Go back to Casey and stay there. - Jetta.. I'm sorry but you are officially cooked. Poor poor decision by Goodwin to rush him in. I would have rather a fit Josh Wagner out there playing. - Brayshaw, Oliver, Harmes. Definition of AFL footballers who are loving the lifestyle and bright lights of being an AFL player. Lazy, arrogant and simply refusing to work hard both ways. I wish we still had Roos who would give these 3 an absolute kick up the [censored]. - Lewis finished - The umpiring decision against Gawn has to be by far the worst decision all year. Then for smith to drop the ball after taking the tackler on and not be rewarded is a [censored] joke.

  23. Score a good reflection of the game. Lever and Jetta will be better for the run, makeshift forward line was always going to be stretched, but once again, too many players out, too little consistency in the team we're putting on the park and still too many (fringe) players where chains of possession break down. Against that, a good opportunity for younger players, and Petty did well, working to his strengths. Final point: Steven May. Bag him all you want, but showed what real, take the game by the scruff of the neck leadership looks like.

  27. A good hard fought end, but we couldn't get the chocolates. Yes the umpires were killing us, but the lack of polish by our VFL listed players really killed us. They are so good at tackling and being hard at it, but when they find themselves on the outside, there is a lot of turnovers. O Baker – had a really good 2nd and 3rd quarter. His speed was really important today and the pace of Marvel and the Dogs meant that he stood out a little bit more. The most obvious one for a call up if needed. C Wagner – Another really good game. You can see why he is often the emergency or coming back into the AFL side, he owns VFL players and is too quick and big for them. His delivery inside 50 was fine, his finishing much better. I don't know where he fits in the AFL side though. Could he play on the wing and make an impact? Can he play Melksham's role? J Jordan – started like a house on fire and then was moved out of the guts in preference to Maynard, JKH and Wagner. You can see that he is getting to a lot of contests and often is being pushed aside by more experienced opponents. It I starting to come together and he will be a really nice player. His kicked is fantastic and he is a big tackler as well. You can see him and Baker on either wing and actually having an impact on a game in the AFL. McDonald – Good and bad. He looks so much better playing deep in the VFL as the final defender. His experience was really important down there. A couple of issues when him and Hutchins going up together and not working well enough as a team. He was swung forward with about 10 minutes to go in the match. We went to him a couple of times but not great entries. I don't really see forward craft here though. JKH had a lot of touches but was not influential the way Wagner, Baker and Jordan were. His game has so much to like about it, but it doesn't seem to translate to the AFL level because he doesn't get to play the in and under role. Maynard – started really slowly and made his way back into the game in the second half. He is a long way off the guy we had over the last 2 years who was a clearance beast. I really thought that we could see him come on this year but the injuries have seemed to cruel him. Keilty – Drunk’n said that he has no confidence and it shows. He marked beautifully and got into great positions, but 0.3 and all kickable says all you need to know. I really want to keep him around in the rookie list for another year as you can see he is developing nicely, but there are kicking issues that need to be worked out. Bedford and Chandler – they are the same player and you just want to see another 12 months to see where they get too. Great tackling game from both. They played that Spargo high half forward role for quite a lot of the game. Would have been nice to see them deep in the forward line more often to see their goal game. Bedford great crumbing goal. Bradke – 2 goals, there is a lot to like in here but he is too slight to really have an impact on the game and not good enough when it hits the ground to make up for it. As a positive, he marks well and kicks well. So there is a lot to work with there.

  28. One thing I hate is a forward giving high fives after a mark in the forward line. Trac did it in the last quarter then predictably misses the goal. High fives are after you kick the goal!!

  31. mate...all the p;layers in the world wont help consider: A good chef with a sound knowledge of food can conjour an incredible meal with the most basic ingredients....because he understands it. The same chef with rubbish ingredients will struggle....but he/she will cook according to what is before them. A good recipe can work ok with average ingredients if the cook knows what hes doing. A very poor recipe will yield something totally unpalatable irregardless of who's cooking simply because it's flawed. If you have a very mediocre cook...no chef...and Ok ingredients but a poor recipe you will always get crud. I say time and time again....our demise is by design.

  32. No other ruck ever has this paid against. Gawn rucking against a 6 foot tall player has every right use his arm to hold space, he can't sit there and have a small man jump on to him. I get he can't extent the arm to push off but that's not what he was doing at all. Contrived rubbish.

  38. I shall be viewing this game from the ever warm and welcoming bosom of The Manor. It will interesting to watch the impact Preuss up forward. I do not expect him or Max to kick a bag as they will be swarmed by defenders whenever the pill gets anywhere near. The ball will come to ground. However, hopefully the likes of Hannan, Petracca, Brayshaw and Hunt will be presented with resultant opportunities. I will not be surprised if we get a sneaky win out of this. If we are close at 3/4 time, I shall lock the maid up.

So why kerp sinking the boots in. Why keep bagging him. I could care less about Elegt's comments. You are spot on, he is a troll. But you aren't and i respect your opinion as I understand from your posting history. I can't understand how you can bag elegy and continue to bag omac so vociferously.
