  1. James Jordan dominated that quarter with 8 disposals. Played as an inside midfielder and was very impressive.

  3. The squad out together on Gosh's for a clean, precise captains run. Started with warm up drills followed by short passing. After some run throughs, they went down for some serious goal kicking. Some coaches on the mark, including Simon Goodwin guiding the accuracy. They split into the line teams. Forwards practising rolling from a defender to create spread and overlap. Sam Wiedeman and Jayden Hunt working leads at different angles at the end of training. Braydon Preuss working off Stafford with taps to the mids, Jordan Lewis with Kyle Dunkley and the others working inside. Angus Brayshaw a little proppy, Clayton Oliver a touch off (hope it is just at training). Back line looks compact and there was connection between Sam Frost and Steven May. Appeared to be working on timing the release and hitting a player down the corridor. Christian Pettraca and Jack Viney had light duties. The rehab had Jake Melksham running with timed laps, Billy stretch, Tim Smith and I think James Jordan and Kade Chandler. Mood was subdued, could be just going through the paces, though Jordan Lewis up about his selection. Max Gawn was not in the squad.

  4. I’ll have a guess: 1. 4 AFL Premierships, AA selection, Hawks B & F, 40 VFL touches last week....... all as a midfielder 2. Our midfield got flogged last week. 3. Is a proven wet tracker.

  7. Just back from a lovely day in the sun at Casey sitting mainly on the Berwick Rise. A lovely freshly cooked bacon and egg roll at half time. I left my phone at home so no game time commentary from me. Did you miss much... probably not. Three goals to the Blues from 50 metre penalties and inaccurate kicking from the Dees nearly decided the game against Casey but thanks to a couple of scrappy goals in the last it was a win. To me it was a game of two halves (I have always wanted to use that cliche.) The first half in which Casey may best be described as lethargic. Three players came to my notice. Jetta.. two mistakes.. two goals to the opposition ... (obviously needs a run)... O Mac... he tries but his turn back into an opposition player and thus caught holding the ball was cringeworthy. Lever.. much better but not really on top..however he was one of the few Casey players running on to present the next target in the chain. A class above. Then we have the second half in which Lever starred. Casey should have been four or five goals up at 3/4 time but couldn't buy a goal. The last quarter was probably even with an almost goal for goal tussle. James Munro had a strong game all day long. Oscar started to play a strong game with some courageous marks. And probably the star for me was our perennial friend JKH... provides drive at all times .. could be better directed but at this level he is a strong player. As to what it meant for the AFL team... probably not much except that Lever played very well and will most likely play seniors next week. (There was one worrying moment for Lever in the third quarter.. almost by accident he went shoulder high on a Carlton player and then went over the player's shoulder to descend head first towards the ground. Looked dangerous to say the least but luckily he landed okay.)

  8. Half a game I think. Didn’t see him after half time. Was average before then but first game back. Lever was outstanding. James Jordan and JKH were very good

  12. KC is definitely our “Robin the Boy Wonder” here at Demonland. Cranbourne East is a bit on the cold side for me these days “rjay” - I’m visiting the Gold Coast at the moment and can see Metricon Stadium, where the AFL Tigers are having a feast at the moment, from my window.

  13. My source tells me that Max’s ankle is extremely swollen and his toes are black and blue. I have no idea how he is standing upright let alone be considered fit to play.

  19. It's unbelievable how the Druggies get an armchair ride every week! Out possessed by 40-odd, yet nearly double the frees to Essendon. No doubt due to their whining crowd. Their constant booing of Rampe was childish to say the least. What?... booing him for (stupidly)trying to climb the goal post up in Sydney!!!??? They didn't deserve to win either of those games. The umps absolutely gifted them the Whorethorn game last week, too. I hope their chooks turn into Emus and kick their dunny door down.

  20. We had 13 more scoring shots and won by thirteen points. What I saw in the 3rd and last quarter was astounding. Just a note on a few players. Lever. Thaught he was our best player. stopped nearly everything that went near him. Chandler. In and out sort of game but was busy around the packs. Jordan. Played a good game. Why didn't they put him in the seniors instead of lewis. Maynard. Really solid game. Hope his shoulder will be okay. Omac. Got a bit of ball on the outside when he was alone. Wagner. Good solid game. Much better at clearances than other players. JKH. Not outstanding but played well and positioned himself fairly well. Jetta. Played but that is all. Will need a couple more vfl games to find his feet. Baker. Ordinary 1st half but much better in the second.

  22. Need to make an offer to Dan Butler from the Tigers. Maybe a 3 year deal would get it done. Aggressive type who knows how to hit the scoreboard. Also he stays on the ground. We usually have “3 up, zero down “ in marking contests. Also Ben Keays from the Lions may be worth a late draft pick 70s. Having a great year in NEAFL but cannot crack a game due to Charlie Cameron.

  27. These sorts of things can happen when administrations allow themselves to become so interspersed with and then dependent upon the gambling industry. Then of course they have to appear to come down on gambling (though meekly enough to allow a banned player to become miraculously available for final$.) Their rule changes to ensure lots of goals (code for advertising opportunities for their $ponsors) having been a dismal failure, close finishes are essential. Like Ethan above, the game I used to love has gone - sold down the drain to the highest bidders. ??????

  28. JKH gets the opening goal (no surprise either). Casey Demons 1.1.7 to Northern Blues 0.0.0. Only one Wagner playing. Josh, I think - so that means Corey Wagner joins Preuss as a hold over emergency. And look who’s back!

  29. Didn’t see Max at training this morning. Greg Stafford doing a lot of ruck work with Pruess and the mids. Dunkley working with the mids. Jones not doing much, just helping the coaches. Only saw the last 15 mins of a short session so don’t know if Max was out earlier.

  31. I really feel for JKH - the senior inquiry list is horrendous, the forward pressure is zero AND he has been playing his heart out and playing well for Casey. Is Goodwin blind or deluded?

  36. Wasteful early in the game and sloppy in the last half of the second term. Casey doing its best to drop this one. Can’t underestimate the effect of the loss of Preuss on the team. 45. I think the club leaked the information. It was reported after our disastrous start to the season when media, the footy community and most importantly the fan were focusing so strongly on our failures. Some deflection was needed. Goodwin refused to give his players an excuse publicly, he didn’t want to give them an out and rightly so. It’s a little like injuries. We all know they have a huge impact but we don’t use them as an excuse. So we leaked this information to release the pressure and educate people as to why we were performing poorly. It was a smart and sensible thing to do. I can’t be bothered debating those who think our disastrous preseason is nothing but an excuse only to say if preseasons weren’t important why have one? A poor preseason impacts fitness, skills, connection, confidence, game plan and yes, results. To deny that just denies logic. We’ve all heard a hundred time players who have had great seasons say you can’t do it without a great preseason. But what would they know? Our preseason is probably not the only thing that has gone wrong but in my opinion it’s the core reason. You can cover up a lot of things but preseason’s and injury you can’t.
