  1. This is great... very proactive stuff from the club. Jade back in as forwards coach. Love it.

  3. Dropped by training for 30 minutes this morning in beautiful sunny and calm conditions. Neville was running laps endlessly with Crossy, OMac running laps as well and AVB walking around a little. Viney showed up late and did some close in ball work with Hannan but not much else. Didn’t sight Lever while I was there. The others were going hard at it with numerous drills moving the ball by foot, kicking low 30m passes to a player on the lead. It wasn’t perfect but I thought most players were hitting their targets. These 30 meter passes are the ones we seem to be over cooking on the few occasions that our mids lower their eyes when delivering to a target in our forward line. There were also numerous drills where a player had to move through heavy traffic to get the ball with other players armed with the big pads,so there were some heavy hits as players tried to crash through. Harmes, JKH, KK, Stretch and Jeffy were involved in all the quick ball movement drills, moving well and delivering to targets. There was a lot going on around the ground so it was hard to take it all in. Training finished with the usual freestyle goal kicking practice at the northern end where players practiced whatever they needed to I suppose, set shots from 40 m for some, running snap shots for others. i have mentioned previously that given our abysmal set shot accuracy this year why aren’t our forwards working on technique and routine with a specialist coach to iron out their issues. So it was interesting when at the end of training Brendan McCartney came over for a chat and said he was not happy with the standard of training, that there is still a lot of work needed if we are to improve and the playing group, although young had to understand this. I asked him about our goal kicking yips and shouldn’t we be working on our technique more and developing routines. His response was interesting, yes they are spooked on setshots but no we have done all that technique stuff, it will only turn around when they stop thinking about it. By which I think he means to stop thinking about the mechanics of it all because that is self defeating. This makes sense when I think about it because no matter what level of sport you played you will at some stage executed something well above your normal level and I bet when you did you were not thinking much about technique, more likely you were thinking of outcomes and the rest was just happening subconsciously.

  4. Great news. Find it strange that over the last few weeks people were complaining about our assistants, the President, the CEO, the fitness staff, the lack of a 'review', yet here we are with some proactive changes made clearly after Bartlett has conducted internal reviews and people are complaining? Interesting that Misson has seemingly also been demoted (reading between the lines a bit). Congratulations also to Sam Radford who has been promoted to senior coach of Casey.

  5. Nah. I could argue the point, I even typed it out, but now I've deleted because it is just going to end up being one of those odious back-and-forth threads where gradually people become more irritated and actually pump up their original soft opinions into more extreme versions just to annoy the other person who is annoying them. So just, nah. Brayshaw good. Better value than what we'd get in a trade. Our inside midfield is not actually that deep, either, so not an area we should talk about trading quality players out of.

  6. Well it makes sense, the season has gone so let’s review our coaches for the last 11 matches. I never liked that Rawlings went to Casey but thought it must be at his request for development but now we have him back. What changes in the so called lack of midfield connection to the forward line, next week will be interesting to see. Let’s hope it gets better.

  7. Good changes, to see Jade Rawlings back sitting in the box. An experienced assistant which will be of great support to have around for Goody and the team. Underrated and missed a few coaching opportunities through his time however is well regarded at our club and will help having him back as a line coach for the forwards. Gave up his coaching position to help out the seniors. That is a committed team member.

  8. Well done to the club for being proactive. All I want is to not waste them last 10 rounds. And they haven’t. Thrilled Rawlings is back. Wasted in the VFL he is an excellent line coach and can only help our horrible forwardline’s form.

  12. Not really the Topic headline I would've gone for. Rawlings promoted to Demons forward coach. Rooke demoted to development role. McCartney shifted back in to development. Changing the forwards coach was a pretty clear reality after record forward line inefficiency. Not saying it was all Rooke's fault but it was time to make some changes.

  14. On the contrary I can understand where he is coming from. If you keep concentrating on trying to fix a problem with your technique it may just get worse as you over analyse the mechanics of kicking a ball straight. A lot of advice to cure the putting yips in golf does not involve the mechanics of the swing but rather what’s going on in your mind when you line up.

  15. I think its pretty clear that the forward line was an utter shambles...and the forward line coach was in his first year on the job. So could be he was just simply no good, or could be that he didnt have the experience or the trust of the players to deal with the situation this year as it was arising. Rawlings will bring some confidence back so Personally I think its great they made some changes. The last thing we need as a club is to go out with a whimper this year. Bold gutsy move by the dees.

  16. I hope we don’t spare any money finding a new elite conditioning coach or whatever the hell is the title. A very very important role, I would look at teams who have had good success with injury management and throw a bag of cash at whoever manages them. Injuries ruined our 2017 and 2019 seasons. Let us not have 2020 be a repeat.

  17. Chook what McCartney said to me about goal kicking, I took not to be his decision, it was a coaching panel decision. Brendan is not in charge of the forwards , so not his call, let’s try to keep to the facts we know.

  18. No to trading Angus. Kicking can be fixed more easily than being able to find the pill.

  21. I listened to Gils press conference and the big thing for me was it showed for all to see that he is clearly out of his depth as CEO of the AFL. He issued an apology that in my view was given grudgingly. The big flaw for me was his comment that all grounds make their own decisions on security so AFL not involved. Does he actually understand that the AFL owns Marvel so the afl is involved and he is by default the Chief of Marvel so the buck stops at his desk. But that fact is seemingly lost on Gil. It is time for a new chief.

  23. I am wondering if goal kicking issues became a major focus in their post match analyses and attempts to rectify the problem have proved counterproductive to the point where last week we had players passing off (e.g. Jeffy, Oliver) when they were within their normal range? It seemed to me the problem had spread through out the team last week. So now the strategy is to stop talking about it and take the pressure off.

  25. He's a genius Paul Roos. Why go for the $1.5m/year and all those sleepless nights when you can take $500k to swing by for a latte and croissant and shoot the breeze every other week, attach your name to another sure fire rising success and keep the door open for an even bigger jackpot somewhere else later on. 27. Great news. Everytime i had the opportunity to watch Casey play and walked out to hear Rawlings at half time all I could think was it is only a matter of time until we lose him to a senior role. He has the balance of old school motivator, commander of respect and a communicator of tactics. Don’t know enought about the strength and condition coach from Hawthorn but he can’t go any worse. Glad we are being proactive despite fair and reasonable reviews will find we were hampered by injury.

  29. Rawlings’ first job is to get the forwards to start 15 metres out from goal instead of 40.

  30. I'm guessing Rooke didn't have whatever it is that was required for Tom to get out of his own head and back to impacting games. Rawling's is a far more imposing character. It might be a cuddle, a kick up the backside or a demotion to the VFL but something needs to change with Tom. I'm looking forward to some fresh approaches.

  32. If I were Jade Rawlings it would be a big kick up the backside for Tom McDonald, see you later Jeffy Garlett and a commitment to team work from all of the forwards. Get them working for each other and things might turn around.

  33. Pleased with the developments as it's what a lot of us were calling for. The right time too in the sense where we've got the 2nd half of the season to get our act together. Puts everyone on notice which was also necessary. There is a need to make sure all are working together as a team though and that's where Pert needs to be able to cast a discerning eye

  36. The issue has absolutely zero to do with the ethnicity of the security guards. It has everything to do with how poorly trained and prepared they are.And i'll bet London to a brick they are really poorly paid. They just don't have the skills the job demands and that is not their fault.

  37. Name me one person outside the umpires who thinks that was a reasonable result, or probably didn't laugh that Gus was ahead of Oliver. Completely irrelevant. What is relevant is Brayshaw this year is playing like a future Dom Tyson. If another team offers up value for him we either say yes or have a plan that involves better training methods and a new head of fitness vastly improving him.

  44. Red herring in regards to the discussion at hand. You made specific - and ridiculous - claims about the number of marks the forwards were taking. You were wrong first time, and doubled down when you were called on it, even when presented with the facts. Serious confirmation bias BS. Pathetic.

Kennett pointed out that the afl is so pi55weak it used a security company that employs gentlemen almost exclusively from the subcontinent who have little or no understanding of Australian football crowds, customs and behaviours.Wring your hands, pat yourselves on the back and go get your prize if you managed to use the R word today and made yourself feel good. The whole thing is pathetic. The AFL is a farce run by dunces. When the Romans have to be silent at the circus to please the Emperor then he should be thrown to the lions.

Goal kicking is an art and needs SPECIALIST instruction. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE under Match conditions "STOP THINKING ABOUT IT... SERIOUSLY???? THINK MORE ABOUT IT AND FIX THE PROBLEM Nup GARBAGE, And the worst is the Club STILL STILL cannot see and remedy a problem!! Hnmmm Thanks for Observations Earl Hood!
