  1. Let's just hope the person making the allegations is ok. Can't imagine the pain or trauma someone goes through when something like this occurs. Whether guilty or innocent, they felt the need to come forward. Hope the club and Afl ensure her wellbeing is the number 1 priority. everyhing else is second

  2. I think it's too early for these sentiments. I'd at least want to know the allegations, circumstances, etc. My sympathy will be determined by the facts. Right now it may, or may not be warranted.

  7. I was in the interesting and unusual position of meeting a current player & some of his family. Really lovely and polite people and feeling quite comfortable with them I asked him about the “boot camp”situation. His response was quick and direct. In his words ... “ an absolute “media beat up” ..... players and coaches sat down and had a frank discussion about the camp. A joint decision was made to abort the camp. If the coaches had wanted us to do the camp ...we would have done it. The media are just trying to intimate there is a division between “ players & coaches” and it is not the case. That was pretty much his exact words. His family was a bit more direct and Danny Frawley had less than complimentary statements made about him. This is a 5yr player and I thought he was very honest and forthright. There will of course be the usual cynics out there who will decry this info but I am quite content and happy with this explanation and express the same sentiments as his family who are “hanging out for the season” and so excited. Go Dees !!

  8. But there is such a thing as a vexatious complaint. So it is not yet 'a fact' that she feels violated. She may well be, she may not. Assign probabilities as you wish. But we have no fact at this stage. I know in the Trump era facts can be fluid, but let's stick to using the word in its original meaning.

  9. That is correct. Just ponder this question... under what circumstances would you or any person for that matter go and make a report of such things? To put your own name out there under such circumstances requires courage. There is nothing good that comes for the girl to report this and have the media attention. None whatsoever. That is why I take her word immediately and place more weight on it than presuming the innocence of a footy player. again, personal opinion only. And everyone is entitled to their view.

  10. You don't know what she "believes". All you know is what she's reported. That's fact.

  11. If I was them, I would be more worried about lining up against Oliver, Viney and Petracca with Gawn in the ruck... ...and how is their depleted defence going to cope with Hogan, Tommy Mac and Jeffy... plus a lacklustre forward line that relies on Hawkins. I think we've got them covered

  13. Couple of points. (some already noted). There was an incident in Indonesia according to the claimant and now acknowledged by the MFC. So far unsubstantiated in law and fact. This is the salient point. The media might be all over it but it doesn't matter a whit. It occurred outside any jurisdictional aegis of any Australian authority. Tell the Victorian police all you want, true or not. It doesn't matter. The claimant can pursue absolutely nothing unless a complaint is lodged with the Indonesian police. Evidence will be required, hard evidence and believe me the Indonesians are used to dealing with this particularly in Bali. It's a serious allegation and not what we need on our (for me brief )holiday break. I will welcome due process but hanging anyone out to dry at this stage is way off the mark.

  18. Let's not jump to conclusions here! Sexual assault can mean many things. We have no idea what , if anything, happened.

  20. You can see how much we've improved just by reading the above. In 2012 it only took the first minute of the first game until any optimism was belted out of existence.

  21. That's a nonsense DC - we are absolutely training the house down and are a monty to be top 4 based on what i have seen and read and i will continue to hold this belief until just after the first five minutes of the first game of the season.

  23. How am I selling him short? I said he has done a solid job. Not sure what you see to suggest it has been fantastic. Yes, stability is crucial and with adequate succession planning there is no reason why it shouldn't remain so. We had a succession plan for the coach. Jackson has talked about a successor for himself. We have a succession plan for our next captain. Can't see why succession planning can't apply for a President. Let me repeat I am not potting our President. In my view, as a club we need to take a significant leap in size and scope. That will require a different approach and skill set. And I haven't seen those signs from our President (or the Board). Maybe he will surprise. But then maybe 10 years is too long.

  25. Apart from the fact I hate Geelong I believe they are grossly overated. Adding Ablett to their side won't change anything. Dangerfield is their only real weapon.

  26. I might be in the minority, but I like a 'vanilla flavoured' President. He can do what needs to be done behind the scenes and let others, like PJ, Mahoney and Goody do the talking. He's done that well so far and worked really well with all areas of the club. We can't ask for much more than that.

  27. Let's keep politics and your squabbles on the general boards out of this.

  28. While I can understand your view. The only fact I need to know is a girl has come forward that she believes she has been sexually assaulted. You don't need to have sympathy, although maybe try some empathy. What would she be feeling? What would she be going through. I'm not saying any player is guilty or not guilty. Just that this person feels she has been violated. That is fact.

  31. I thought he interviewed very well and address the cancellation of the training camp well. The coaches made the decision. End of story.

  32. The club board has been fantastic. They haven't leaked any information to the media or any ferals on D'land that doesn't concern them. Not like the previous boards we had where each director was competing against each other for points. I'd prefer the saying No News is good news, than the Carp we get here. 99% is BS

  34. Two different games but a repetition of poetry in motion by Viney. Just like Vince on Dangerfield. Ablett can be next if he wishes, cos Petracca or Oliver will get his season off to a bad start and one must think that Frosty could artfully intercede at a critical moment.

  35. Pity. I quite like the idea that Viney has so much testosterone he can grow facial hair in a matter of seconds.

  36. I think you are selling Bartlett a little short, LH. I think he's done a fantastic job so far and there is no reason to change what he is doing at the moment. Stability is crucial and as the club continues to grow it becomes all the more important.

  42. He was asked what he thought of Hawthorn's policy of Presidents standing down after two terms ie 6 years. Our President said he thought 10 years is about right. So expect our vanilla flavoured President for another five years! While his style has suited a club rebuilding and establishing a solid stable base, there comes a time when we need to make a significant leap in size to just keep up with other clubs. And I don't think a vanilla style presidency is so effective for that. At some point we need someone who has some charisma, is innovative and sells our club. So for mine, I hope we get someone else in the role well before before the 10 years are up. Not potting Bartlett - he has done a solid job. But it is horses for courses.
