  3. Thanks GNF. I love a good riddle. I was disappointed with my inability to decipher your riddles during the Dangerfield saga but I've been hard at work ever since tackling cryptic crosswords and my 6 year old daughter's 'Book of Riddles' and I think I'm ready. So I highlighted the clear clues you've left for the Demonland faithful and decided to use google to help filter through your obvious list of clue words. But then it dawned on me that it can't be that simple. Remembering that Hogan's Heroes was produced by Bing Crosby Productions back in 1967 I decided to overlook Google this time and head over to Bing. Without hesitation I entered the above words (pond cowgirl parallel "hear say") into my new favourite search engine of choice and BAM there it was! Screaming out to me only three sites down on the list of search responses was a massive indication of your real hidden message. I was being implored to download Adele's 'Someone Like You'. And the alarm bells were ringing. The last time I'd listened to that song was 5 years ago to this very day (haunting) when my Facebook feed was flooded by friends pricks who thought it would be funny to rip my heart open with reminders of Scully's defection. So there it is. He's gone and about to sign a 5 year deal. But with whom? So following the same approach I turned my attention back to google, entering the same 4 words. And again, three sites down on the list, incredibly, I found another music site, this time from Russia. And sure enough, there was the final clue. Enlisting the assistance of the ever reliable Google Translate, I confidently scrolled down to find a list of the most recently added lyrics and again staring out at me was 'Over the Couds I Meander'. Clearly a reference to Eagles and therefore the West Coast Eagles. It was a fun riddle-filled tryst GNF. Until next trade period.

  5. Are we still having a debate about whether it was valid to give a long-term injured player a one-year contract on presumably low money in order to give them a chance to return to fitness, at a time we don't even have a first-round draft pick and already have a pretty good sized list turnover coming? The mind boggles. Some people will just fix on something and bang away at it in an effort to sound like they know better. Trengove's one-year contract is surely neither a big deal nor controversial.

  6. Maybe I should have taken a different approach. Take two. From what I was told not the weekend just gone but the one before. And yes some or even a lot of this has been floated on this tread. 1). Club was 95% sure that contract would have been finalised by now, well months ago. Jesse announcing contract talks on hold came as a shock. Club was not expecting it. 2) CBA had nothing to do with contract talks being put on hold. 3) Club does not believe money being put infront of Jesse was the issue contract talks stopped. 4) Sime of the current players do not believe Jesse will stay at the club long term. 5) Club has held off progressing too far in talks with some potential recruits that are more high profile than Hibberd. They are waiting in a little more clarity. 6) We should hear something by end of next week. All I'm doing is passing on what I've been told. Also next time I see him I'll ask about Barlow again as he said Melbourne were quite interested and had spoke with him. After watching yesterday, another slow player I hope not.

  8. Disappointed to see so many people happy to see the Dolphins go under. Having grown up in Frankston (haven't lived there for about 8 years) I can say i find this news very sad. A once very proud club no longer exists. Multiple division 2 titles and players drafted into the AFL including our soon to be Michael Hibberd, former Ryan Ferguson, Mark Baguley, Sam Lloyd & Aaron Edwards. A sad day for football.....

  11. No the decision to re-sign him is based on the fact that if he can get anywhere near full fitness, he has a big big upside and is capable of seriously improving our midfield, as he did in his first two years. The doubt is not in his innate ability, it's in whether he can get near to full fitness or not. That can only be judged after he has a full preseason - if that makes no difference to him, if he's no better this time next year than now, then yes, he's gone. But it's foolish and premature at this stage to delist him on the basis that this is as good as he's going to get.

  14. Because he's a highly talented and highly professional young player, absolute aerobic beast and if he can pick up a little more speed with a full pre season he could easily be the hard running mid we currently desperately lack, he'd be getting paid peanuts and worst case scenario provides strong leadership and depth at VFL level, keeps pressure on the seniors, there is absolutely zero risk in giving him another year and potential for significant reward. the issue with your point of view is you're making this call based on the now, in his first 2 years i'd have Trenners ahead of at least half of your top list, the club is clearly backing him to recapture his pre injury form. people seem to forget just how good he was before his injury, and forget that we lose very little- nothing by giving him another year.

  15. Pathetic game, really disappointed. Stage fright really kicked in didn't it? Also a note on the alignment, it really sucks. I felt like a fool wearing my Melbourne gear to a game that Melbourne were not playing in. You know like those people that go to a game and wear their colours even though their team played the day before. The Casey Scorpions will never be the Melbourne Demons and the Demons will only ever be a part of them. The atmosphere when the Scorps ran out was so flat & no one knows the team song, myself included, as I didn't even think about that until it started playing and I'm like "oh yeah it's not the Dees". When the dogs ran out the usual thing happened at every game vfl or afl, everyone sang their song proudly, wonder why. To me it just didn't feel like I was there to support the Dees. This bullcrap that we cannot afford a stand alone teams gets discredited when the doggies prove they can do it. They are only just in front of us in memberships, and we make more money than they have over the last few years. Would we have to pay out a heap of money to the city of Casey if we break the partnership? Time to cut this alignment and get a reserves that the people can really get behind. This is just my two cents worth and I have been feeling like this over the whole year, I tried to get excited about Casey playing so well, and I know i should because we are part of them but I just can't.

  16. I found Gill's vote reading was atrocious and hugely disrespectful. The way he raced through some games like they were meaningless was a massive insult to those teams and players awarded votes in those games.

  23. I don't know Flamingdee but his info is parallel to mine. My info is correct as it is first hand and direct. There is no "hear say" in what I have written and thus I suspect Flamingdee is not far off the top of the tree. Yet too many cowgirls on this site are prepared to smash and criticise the rare and only info that has some quality and truth. One thinks its time many of you grew a life outside of demonland. It is after-all the worlds smallest pond. For those who want to know where Hogan is at, the above post is worth a read.

  24. THIS is the big issue and why we need an answer from Jesse. It's not just about his future, or whether he is obliged to give a response before his contract is up, it's about the club being able to plan their moves during trade week. If he can't do the decent thing and let the club know what pieces they are playing with, then the club needs to make the call for him.

  25. Demonland did howl down the decision to extend Hunt's contact last year; the more generous appraisals insisting he was a Rookie downgrade at best. The major difference between the two being that Trengove has shown he has the talent to be an excellent AFL player, Hunt spent parts of 2015 in the VFL Development League. The club has given him a year... the way people are talking on this thread, you'd think he'd been reappointed captain.

  28. Would it seriously hurt to give this guy a crack on the rookie list where a full time professional environment could do him good? Been a shining light over the finals series and at 192cm and 92kg he could add depth next year as a 3rd tall while Weidemen and Hulett continue to develop. He'd be a massive upgrade on Dawes, and has that Russell Robertson X Factor where he can pull marks out of his ass from no where. What i also love about him is his forward pressure and tackling, something our tall forwards struggle to do. Hits them hard and harasses when inside 50. 31 goals this year which is a great effort. Thoughts?

  34. Go and watch Plapp's interviews pre & post Grand Final. The Casey players have brought into the one club message which is now being pushed. Their part time footballers dedicating themselves to try and lead as close a lifestyle to a full time footballer as possible. Attending extra training sessions when possible including summer sessions in the city with the Melbourne players to try and gel. There's a good interview with Trengove & Munroe on Scorp TV from mid-season where they talk about the efforts being made for the groups to bond and grow more. Casey's D-League team made the grand final also, which shows the ground being gained by the club. Gone are the days of 2 years ago where Ro Welsh gave JKH some instructions that totally contradicted what Miller had just asked him to do and the poor kid had no idea who he was suppose to follow. If Melbourne were to go stand alone, it would have been after the 2014 season. Instead they decided to work on the alignment with great results, We've gone from 2nd last in 2014 ahead of only Bendigo (now dismantled) to a finslist in 2015 and Grand Finalist/minor premier in 2016. Yet because of one terrible quarter, which even AFL prelim finalist teams aren't exempt from, people want to talk down the alignment. Amazing what goes on. However one thing I will say, is that I'm not against a renaming of the team to show the true alignment, however it is important from a VFL perspective to keep the Scorpions name. In the Victorian District Cricket league the Casey-South Melbourne cricket club play out of Casey Fields, so I think the Melbourne-Casey Scorpions is something that they could rename the club. Give them the Melbourne guernsey with a Scorpion a the bottom of the red point on the jumper. Just a thought.

  35. Why? It isn't beyond the realms of possibility for the dons to settle with a player for a undisclosed and confidential amount, as most settlements are, then pay them less than market value in their contract? Both the player and the club would need to be on board but it could happen. Here is a more realistic example. The club would normally pay Heppel 500k a year, they also have to settle with him about the PED issue and will pay him 1mil for this (all figures made up). They say to Dyson, hey, we will give you a 1.5mil settlement when we originally said 1 mil, that extra 500k comes off your 5 year contract so instead of your contract being 500k a year it is now only going to be 400k a year. You get a big chuck up front in the settlement and you free up a bit of cap space so we can bring in more talent and you can play in a team that should be more successful. I'm not sure on the tax implications on a payout but that could also be beneficial. The club could also pay it out of there pocket so the insurance company doesn't need to be involved. It is possible. Even though we have seen what these players will do to tow the club line I don't think this will happen but imagine the almighty [censored] storm that would erupt if they were found out for that!

  36. Not sky falling in from me. We some youth and but a fair bit of experience during the year that held us in good stead. Unfortunately some of them reverted to type in the GF, Grimes missed targets he needed to hit, Dunn lost the plot tried the barrel a couple of times to no effect, got caught out for agility and tried the ruff stuff again to no effect. Garland didn't impose. The inbetweeners like Michie, Turls etc didn't really impose. Spencer was probably the biggest disappointment and this is where the rot began. They had first use and their rucks were on top in the air and clearing a path on the ground. I thought Matt Jones had a really good game and struggle to see why people want him delisted. He's not best 22 but he is good depth and stood up when a lot of others were falling down in the 3rd Q. Along with Oliver who is a star. I noticed someone talking about Oliver fading in the last, but he did a power of work for the game. I think you will find the reason they wanted to qualify him for the finals is to get a head start on 2017 and building the tank. He spent a lot of time on ground and on ball in the 3 games. It was a great finals series from a 1st year player who came in underdone. I wonder if Smith (Casey variety) has done enough to a least get a rookie spot at AFL level. Could be a bit of the Dixon's about him. He's had a good series and deserves his shot with us or someone else. What the game did point out to me is that we do need an extra ruck and we need to keep drafting and trading to improve the list. Some of the players that took Casey to the top this year won't be around next year and we need to replace them with better players and more particularly players that put serious pressure on the senior team for spots. Looking to the future, Oliver looked like an AFL level player and of course is, Weed has potential and I actually liked a lot of his ground work and quick hands, Matt Jones as I said is depth and deserves his place on the list. Apart from that Smith (MFC) has a lot of potential but a lot of work ahead with his disposal. Most of our future this year was on display at AFL level so I'm not overly disappointed with the result, just a bit annoyed.

  37. So what you've done is put all the news that's been reported on here, or in the media, in to one big post and claimed you've been 'told' about it? Right. And what player contracts are we holding out on? All the players who are required for next year are under contract. At most, they may be waiting on re-signing Dawes or Pedersen, but they hardly command big dollars that will impact on what we offer Jesse.

  39. I don't get the wrist slashing on this thread? Sure they didn't play well yesterday but overall the season was a success and it is great to see the Demons and Casey building a strong relationship. People saying that we were pathetic, Sydney were flogged in a Grand Final by the Hawks and are now back there. These things happen, it doesn't mean all the players are useless, just sometimes it doesn't click on the day. You all need to chill out.

  40. I'm still shaking my head in disbelief we continue to sign this spud up year after year when theres been far more suitable 2nd ruckman out there the past couple of years.

  41. I don't believe the doggies have simply managed to nail every single draft pick - it has to be their training and teaching methods. Things like this "handball club" have certainly helped their players to all become proficient at cleanliness and releasing the footy effectively when tackled. Obviously their skills focuses are bang on, and it's something we should be reviewing.

  42. Was at the game yesterday and it was tough to watch. Very unfortunate way to end what's been a great season. Match was lost in the midfield. At that venue our midfield had to totally control the play, otherwise we were always in danger of being cut up on the outside. Dogs midfield managed to break even though and in the 3rd term smash us which was the game. Not really feeling in the mood to give a full player run down, so will only provide a short one. Oliver is a star Weideman competed well but needs to get stronger. Trengove did a few really nice things. His hanball over the top in the centre square in the 1st term pure class. Not writing him off yet. Spencer was really disapointing Dunn/Garland i asdumed we'd only trade one, but we may trade both. List management will have a bit to think about. White was ok All the others struggled. We'll see a very different Casey next year. Highly likely there'll be no Grimes, Michie, Newton, Terlich, M. Jones, Pedersen, Dawes and good chance one or both of Dunn & Garland will be gone also. Bring on the egg & bacon rolls next year and go Scorps!

  43. 2016 Sam Weideman 26 goals Liam Hulett 29 goals Both combined for 55 goals which is a fantastic effort. The future is certainly bright if these two continue to develop at the rate they going. Expect a huge pre season from both and play at least 10 plus games in 2017.

  44. Big grain of salt. Bumped into a bloke wearing Demons shorts in Potts Point (Sydney) yesterday. I asked the obvious - "you go for the Dees mate?", to which he responded "yep. Used to work for the club actually." Didn't recognise him. We chatted very briefly. Good guy. Discussed how the future's looking super bright etc. He then said, "need to sign Hogan though." I agreed. He then said, "the club will trade him this trade period if his signature's looking shaky. The trade value is too great to let it sit for another year on a wing and a prayer." All obvious stuff. And I don't know if the guy has any inside knowledge but he said it in a way that suggested he knew what he was talking about. At best, this possibly advances the discussion by about one millimetre though.
