  1. One more piece of uncut, confirmed news. MFC wanted 5 years, but Paul Roos would not commit. However, Paul Roos verbally said he WILL coach beyond 2 years and beyond 3 years if all is going well. Roos wanted an out should admin, board etc fail to maintain the structure and standards he requires. This should keep the entire organisation in line.

  9. I clearly remember the absolute despair I felt on the days that followed Norm Smith's sacking, and again when Barass announced that he was moving to Carlton ...... and try as I might I can't erase the vivid memories of 186 and all that has followed. For me, these are the lowest points in a very barren 50 years for my beloved Demons, but despite it all, I have clung blindly to the hope that the latest 'five year plan' would be the one to take us back to the top where we belong. Sadly, I must now concede most of my optimism over the journey has been viewed through 'rose coloured glasses'. But today things have changed! I now honestly believe that I can view the future through 'Roos coloured glasses' ...... and they are entirely different to the ones I have left behind. Welcome to the Melbourne Football Club Paul Roos. I have discarded blind optimism and replaced it with well founded faith.

  10. Do you try and go against the grain on purpose or something? All year you were telling us everything was going to plan when we were clearly up to our eyeballs in dung, then when the best news that we've heard in arguably decades hits, you're the one person going "meh, I'll reserve judgement" when everyone else is doing cartwheels.

  11. For the stats minded, here it is adjusted for games played. The number represents the average score out of 7 that each coach gave each player in each game. Bear in mind, things like injuries (particularly in a shortened season like Clark had) and games as the sub will have an impact on these numbers. Garland 4.29 Nathan Jones 4.15 Frawley 3.94 Viney 3.8269 Terlich 3.825 Sylvia 3.79 Dunn 3.75 = Clisby 3.75 Tom McDonald 3.661 Spencer 3.656 McKenzie 3.58 Matt Jones 3.44 Grimes 3.37 Watts 3.31 Magner 3.25 Evans 3.22 Trengove 3.21 Dawes 3.06 Howe 3.05 Jamar 2.86 Byrnes 2.81 Macdonald 2.75 Pedersen 2.70 Fitzpatrick 2.66 Kent 2.65 Davis 2.63 Davey 2.61 Rodan 2.58 Clark 2.563 Gawn 2.558 Toumpas 2.55 Tapscott 2.48 Nicholson 2.45 Strauss 2.42 Bail 2.41 Jetta 2.40 Sellar 2.07 Gillies 2.00 Blease 1.78 Frawley and Viney leap into the top 4, and Clisby and Spencer are the other significant climbers. The coaches must rate them. On this, Magner clearly deserves more game time (depending on how you classify Grimes, you could argue Magner's our 6th best scoring midfielder), and I don't know what's going on with Sam Blease.

  18. There's actually 888 on the site now. Most ever online at once was 1407 in November 2012. I suspect that will be broken today. The site might get a bit slow at times but it should hold up OK. In Nasher we trust.

  20. I can't help but feel sorry for the club seeing Terlich and M.Jones finish 3rd and 4th. The fact that these unspectacular, hard working footballers in their mid 20s from state leagues who probably had jobs last year and played footy for the love of it and didn't think they'd reach the AFL can come in and do so well and stay in the team all year so comfortably is full credit to them, but a reality check for everyone at the club at how many underachievers we've had on our list and how poor our development has been.

  21. To all on here, STOP HYPERVENTALATING! Roos made it very clear that he would not interrupt the celebrations of the 2013 season by formalising his appointment before the B&F. No doubt WC will put in a phone call but as WC expect he will politely immediately reject their invitation. The reason for this is that he has already decided to coach Melbourne. Roos is not motivated by money or a better list, he wants to coach Melbourne because he sees us as the ultimate challenge, he believes he can resurrect us and do this quickly. If he succeeds he will become the absolute legend of the modern era. An announcement will be made before Wednesday but probably before this. I am told the club is aiming for tomorrow, but this will depend on whether Roos is ready and all fine details on the contract concluded. Roos has been actively recruiting his team, I understand it includes Ling and a couple of other beauties. Roos may want to wait for his family to be back before the big announcement as he has suggested, in which case Tuesday, but he will be coaching us. Now take a couple of deep breaths, smoke a fat one if you have to, and enjoy a good nights sleep.

  26. I'm a bit like that too, I've always thought that there would be a flag just around the corner, then all of a sudden you get older and start to run out of corners. Very impressed with Paul Roos and very impressed with Peter Jackson, they know what's wrong with the club and have a plan to rectify it.

  32. Roos' call out of Watts was absolute gold. Kind of tongue in cheek, but matter of fact at the same time. As if to say "you're not going anywhere son" .

  33. Isn't it a massive difference in the approach Roos has taken compared to Neeld. Connecting emotionally with the players at the earliest possible time is so crucial. Roos has stated they're great young boys and really wants them to stay at the club and succeed. Neeld on the other hand comes out with "lift your game or otherwise you'll see what VFL footy looks like." Neeld had tickets on himself from word go whereas Roos has only provided positives so far in relation to the players and team in general. I hope Neeld is watching and learning a thing or two from all this, as tough as a lesson it is.

  34. More importantly, who sent the text messages to Roos. You have to love the commitment of our players, they have been whack from pilar to post for the past 6 years, they were a big key getting Roos to our club. They have worked extremely hard over the past 2 years to get their training up to AFL standards, Chis Dawes said this recently that the boys trained harder than Collingwood and their commitment can not be questioned, Roos mentioned this today. They want to get better and now they will have a coach that will give them every chance to be the best football team they can be. Things will turn and turn quickly. Expect Watts to re-sign over the next couple of days, it would be hard not to.
