We will certainly not definitely get pick one.

As was said above, we need to pray both Carlton and Richmond get more than 4 wins each, or we could get knocked back to third.

The fact we won 5 games last year is going to hurt us immeasurably.

Richmond and the Blues will both win more then 5 games

As much as I hate Carlton, I think they will get their act together. There is no way they can have so many number 1 poicks, add Chris Judd and then blatantly tank again. I think their members are at breaking point, and now want to see some wins on the board.

Blues will win between 7-10 games

Tigers, well they were damn impressive on the weekend and are already 2-2. I have them winning 7-10 games also.

Neither teams will play Finals, but they will win enough to ensure we get the number 1 pick.

I think our biggest threat are the Bombers. They arent much chop.

we also lost a priority pick at 17 last year, in effect travis johnstone (pick 16) for winning one extra game.

I suspect we would have traded him anyway...FYI, who would we have we got, well the draft picks from 17 to 22 were as follows:

# 17 Harry Taylor: Geelong, tall defender, 21 years old, so a mature pick but has already has played 3 games for the reigning premiers

# 18 Alex Rance: Richmond, 192 cm, yet to debut

# 19 Callan Ward: Bulldogs, 184 cm, yet to debut

# 20 Tony Notte: West Coast, 194 KP Forward, yet to debut

# 21 Addam Maric : Melbourne, legend in the making, but can't draft him twice

# 22 Scott Selwood : West Coast, 185, 2 games already...he's a Selwood FCS

So any one of Taylor, Rance, Ward, Notte & Selwood is probably what that game against the Bulldogs cost us.

We need to snag as many good picks as we can over the next few years because the inclusion of the two new teams will dilute the draft pool even further.

Does anyone think the AFL will do us any favours when it come time to start drafting players for West Sydney and the Gold Coast? Our needs are a good chance to get shunted behind theirs.

It could be our rebuilding takes significantly longer than Carlton, Richmond, Hawthorn and the Bullies.

It has been said many a time before... but that is what is wrong with the current priority pick/draft system. I agree with all that has been said above, but it is a sad state of affairs when supporters are barracking for a loss as Carltank supporters were, and it is also a sad state of affairs when supporters are regretting a win or two they may have had the season prior as we are here.

The current system is a joke... I can not think of another sport in the world that employs such a system. All other major sports worldwide have lottery drafts or relegation zones, which takes the tanking issue out of the equation.

'Yz M', It was the Carltank game mid season that we should have lost. Carltank were allready on 16 points at that time, & even a draw would have stopped their priority pick.

Richmond would have got Kreuzer, & we would have taken (based on a mid being taken, we would have Cotchin) & an extra pick last year @ pick 18.

2007, We would have had, picks - 2 / priority18 / 20 / 36 / 52,,,,,,,,,,,,,& traded for more picks.

2008, We would have poss' - Priority 1 or 2/ 2-3or4 / around 19 / etc...

It makes a lot more sense now that we picked up Grimes who they knew had a bad back ahead of him with our great depth of KP Backman. I would prefer that Grimes had a knee reco at least he will be back next year who knows when he could be back. Prymke, Lyon, Jakovich, Rigoni and Turley all quality players all cut down with bad backs. I can't think of a player who has played well after a bad back injury I think it is the worst injury you could get. I just want to go and see Richmond in the hope that I can find CAC so I can do a Barry Hall to him. He has killed the club.

Rightly or wrongly, I highly doubt that Harry Taylor was even on our radar, especially at pick 14.

Geelong sense that they are currently in the position to win not only one, but multiple premierships. Similar to Sydney who traded away multiple first round picks in order to pick up experienced and mature players from rival clubs when in their 'premiership window', Geelong sought a player that could come straight in and play AFL footy, without requiring 2-3 years in the gym before being physically ready. At 21, Taylor is far more physically developed than nearly all 17-18 year old draftees (take a look at Cale Morton), and would be of more value to Geelong at pick 17 than he would be for most other clubs at that pick. When you consider Geelong lost one of their key defenders in Ben Egan for the finals series last year, it would make sense that they would consider using a first round pick on a mature age player like Harry Taylor, when a club like Melbourne may not.

My money is on the tiges and blues winning 5 or more games. Tiges will romp it in. On current form we will get pick 1 unless Port tanks against us. I also think we will get a priority.

So that means 3 top 20 picks again.

Lets hope we use them wisely.

An earlier post alluded to the new teams soaking up the good picks so that makes it all the more important to pick well. No trading out picks - just using them on kids.
