I was listening to SEN this morning and out of the blue Andy "the weed" Mar said that on either Tuesday or Wensday ,our assistance coaching staff showed up for work at the Junction oval. After looking at this bloke do 100mtr sprints, shuffles and sides stepping ect ect they thought gee wtf is this bloke. They went over to him and it was Ben Cousins doing training by himself 7:30am on OUR training ground. The Weed went on to say the the coaching staff went over to him and exchanged pleasantries.

WELL>>>>>>>>>>

I didnt know what to think at the start. Although I was dam excited with mixed feelings.

So im going to start a poll

I reckon it would be a waste of time and resources personally. I have absolute zero trust that this guy is clean.

GET HIM!! mclean and jones would play soo much better with him in the team!! i heard that when ben cousins was at west coast he would run his guts out that bad all the west coast players were inspired by his determination they wud join in and work there ass off! imagine our players doing same! and look that pretty much won them a premiership!

I decided to sign him up straight away with a cluase. He' got alot more to lose than we have. Come to the Deez Benny!

If we are trying to build a successful team and culture at MFC and that this rebuilding is over the next couple of years why oh why would we seriously talk to the culture cancer that is Cousins.? On the hand if he is shopping for his next AFL Club why oh why would he choose MFC? Supporter base? Financial strength? Facilities?

Where is Benny's mind at? Has he still got the fire?

If you were to give him a run at the Club you would have to set the financial and other terms for him and how would you police it and how would you establish that he is clean. And how could you trust him? I think his behaviour and the company he keeps does not instil any confidence about what he would bring to Club with a fragile culture like ours.

I am surprised he has not looked up his old mate Gardiner at St Kilda.

What now has Benny Cousins got to lose that he has not [censored] up against the wall? He has no respect within the AFL world, he has no career and what career he had which could have been stellar is now trashed. He has lost his good character and any sense of trust.

He may work to start to redeem but if he does not who loses most? .......MFC by a mile.

I cant see Benny's predelictions fitting DB's culture

Take him in a heart beat.

Jonathon Brown would be kinda handy as well ;)

Ditto, I have been calling for us to have a look at him for some time now, he is the type of player we need, if clean, to show our boys just how you should train.

He would also get bums on seats and you could say we need them.

You have to take a chance in life every now and then, don't you?

Maybe its more evidence that he is still on the gear.

I'm kinda in your camp on this.

We will be losing a lot of senior players this year and you'll need strong leaders to control/help Ben.

With new blood in the leadership (hopefully), they shouldn't have to worry or deal with Benny issues.

IMO Risk for Reward is too high.

not in a month of blue sundays !! There's better ways to bring 'speed' to our midfield !!

Tell us your vote guys. This is very interesting.

I voted 2 with a clean on drugs.

It would be fantastic to get him and we will have the cash in the salary cap after this year with retirements etc.

You would get 5 years out of him and they would coincide with our rise up the ladder, he is the sort that could win you a flag.

Or instill a bit of C&%T into some of our Sof^%$ks

If he was clean and 3 years younger perhaps. ;)

As is he would be the type of guy we could take if we were knocking on the door of being a top 4 / premiership contender, then the punt may be worth it.

Whilst he might put bums on seats in the short-term its unlikely that he'll be part of the demons next premiership.

And DB is trying to build a non-nonsense culture in the club, that means getting rid of Richard Craniums, not welcoming them through the front door.

His 29. 3 good years in him and in that time I hope to be pushing for a flag.

He is either 27 or 28 and the type to play until he is 32 or maybe even later, he could be a forward pocket when he can't play midfield anymore. If you can get a player like him at the club who will give you 5+ years of top class football then why in God's name wouldn't you get him.

The time for being conservative has long gone we have won nothing with that sort of approach.

BTW if we had him he may be the reason we are a top 4 side.

I thought that he was only 27 or 28 but it still doesn't change my opinion, he's a gun player and imagine him in the midfield with Morton next year.

I would take him in a heartbeat

Clean or not.

The man is a freak of nature, and Id love if we got just one great season from him at the MFC, although he is so fit I suspect he could play another 3 or 4 seasons of top notch footy

In fact I wonder what he will be paying for the brownlow first year back.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
