Next year will be worse!

we can't really afford to be delisting anyone at years end.

most changes you can make to a list in 1 season is around 8.

Retiring at yrs end-

Whelan- definitely will retire. body has failed him

Neitz- definitely will retire.

Holland- definitely will retire

Yze- definitely will retire

McDonald- most probably his body will finally give up on him by yrs end. might go one more yr.

White- see McDonald

that's 6 already.

Warnock will obviously be delisted, he was only kept on the list this yr in case of disaster striking our KPP.

Jamar will be lucky to hold his spot after so many shitty yrs on our list but i think he's contracted.

that's 8...we don't have much room to move for making delistings

Is the 8 an AFL rule or your interpretation of it?

It will be like dragging an anchor retaining 3 of Bode, Weetra and CJ.

Jamar is a problem and is contracted (at low rates) until 2009. Could we trade for a 6th round pick?

my interpretation.

any more than 10 list changes, and ur in for a definite bottom 4 result.

CJ will also be delisted

I think with retirements and delistings we will change to the max amount.

Our biggest issue is that unlike Hawthorn of four years ago we have little to trade of marketable value.

For what it's worth, if this year really continues as badly as current form suggests, we are entitled to priority pick no. 1, not just the number 17 - the rule is 'less than ten wins over previous two years', not 'less than five wins in both of the previous two years'. So then we'd have picks 1 and 2 coming in to the list, as well as perhaps five other picks further down the draft order.

Wrong. WE CANNOT GET A FIRST ROUND PRIORITY PICK THIS YEAR. NOT EVEN IF WE LOSE EVERY GAME BY 250 PTS.

Pratt paid Riley off and screwed us over.

but, unlesss afl changes the rules, we will get one the following year.

No way will we win more than 3 this year or next - I'm comfortable with that.

40 + years teaches patience if nothing else.

Go #10

I critisised Neitz last year when I thought he was ordinary and I had the whole of the Demonland fraternity rip into me. I critisised him 2 years ago also.He is a passenger, A PAST champion

He's a forward, his job is to get goals, or make goals happen for Christs sake.

I can only pray that Bailey knows what he is doing, but we are in for a long run of pain.

Cale Morton should be a great player, I saw him dance out of trouble today on several occasions.

Weetra is having a nightmare introduction to the big time.

McLean is so bloody slow, too busy stuffing around hooning in his UTE!!!

How many handballs to some poor slob who was under the pump? What rubbish play.

To rub salt into the wound, I thought Trapper played really great last night and he has actually put on some muscle as most players do when they are traded from the DEES

had a look at priority pick laws it is as follows :

Clubs winning no more than four games in a season from next year will

be eligible for a priority pick taken after the completion of the

first round of the national draft. If the club has successive poor

years of no more than 16 points in each of those seasons — not

averaged over the course of those seasons — the priority pick will be

taken, as it is now, before the national draft.

so to summarise if the tankers or richmond finish with less then four wins then they will have the first pick. So there is no way we can get a priority pick before the first round.

He's a 300 game player for our club, our leading goal kicker and one of the precious few senior players that leads by example.... he wanted to play on - he was far from our worst today. It's obviously his last season and it looks as if we're going to struggle anyway. I'd be more concerned about the future of some of our younger players after today's performance rather than Neita's.

Yes but they have one win already and play us twice.... ;)

When you lose players with experience and that have leadership qualities, who will the younger players look up to? Younger players will be lost on the footy field and it will effect our team. We will be mentally weaker because who will stand up and lead by example? We will have to pay for some big name players next year to fill Macca and Neitz spot

What leadership qualities do we lose? Only Neitz is in the leadership group out of the senior players.

We are not getting the benefit of any experience or leadership qualities.

He has to battle on as there is nobody else ------------so sad!!!!!!!!

The planning for the day that Neitz retires has not happened. Newton is not the answer ,too slow, runs like Daffy Duck

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
