Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

lol.that is a ridiculous statement. pick5! not a chance in hell would we get that. I think the only player that would get a top 5 pick would be Mclean or Davey or even Jones if we were really really lucky. Green is too old to get a top 5 pick.

I think you overrate draft picks alot.

Would deiniftely take a top 10, pick 12 at the worst.

nup not IMO, it's not a great draft this year. he can be a pretty special player and with good kicking skills, him and cam bruce can be our danger men through the corridor with the hard ball gets from brock, jones and dunn. pick 6 at the worst IMO, i mean i know we're rebuilding, but a fit Green is a good part of our side

I would accept any pick in the top 30, he is not worth a first round pick.

just a silly comment. i dont believe u r a melbourne supporter.

last 6 years has come in the top 7 in the b&f, he is one of our few leaders with genuine kicking skills...and u would take pick 30?

i would think that pick10+Meeson for Green would be our best bet, or collingwood at pick 14....anything worse than pick 14 i wouldnt even talk to

You blokes are unreal.... first it was Robbo, then Miller, then Jamar, then TJ, now Green...anyone else you want to get rid of  Bode, Garland. Just kidding... There is no way we would get a first round pick for Green or TJ. Unless your Chris Judd clubs would be relucatant to trade off there first round picks these days for players that are over 22-23.... Not for those type of players anyway

Why don't you throw Trav, Brock and Jones in and see if we can get a second round pick?

We all rate Brad Green but we are not going to get a first round pick for him. IMO he is worth a top 30 pick and I think if you can get that take it, he is no match winner, he is honest hard working but no star. If we want to get more picks and players under 23 like CAC has said you have to have a honest assessment of what a player is worth.

I wouldn't like to see him go, but how about this for a trade.

Green and pick 21 to Freo for Murphy and Pick 7?

that would be great for MFC, but unfortunately Murphey>21 and 7>Green...

a more likely trade would be Green+pick 21 for pick 7...that id take in a second

There was an interesting article in the Herald Sun last week on how Hawthorn assessed their list. It mentioned their selection criteria for draft picks. They were: 1. character (intelligence/leadership/team-first attitude); 2. kicking (must be rated good or better); 3. competitiveness (must have a high level of determination).

Seems to me that Green has all of those, especially a high rating for criterion 2, which is a valuable commodity. Why would we want to trade him at all? If we did, why shouldn't we expect a reasonably early pick?

Yeah, you are probably right. I dreamt up that trade today, but i had Sylvia in Green's place.

Anyone like the idea of a straight swap of Jordan McMahon for Brad Miller? Both players on the outer, they need a foward, and we could sure use some run off the halfback line.

I am a Melbourne supporter and I want the club to have every chance to win a flag. Our current list of senior players have had since 2000 to do this and really what have they acheived since then? Don't give me the line of we have played in finals in 4 years out of 7, we made up the numbers, we haven't been a premiership threat. We have some big holes in our list that needs to be addressed and the only way to do this is by making some tough calls. Brad Green wouldn't have been my choice to put out there but other clubs are interested in him.

So you want to fill our holes by trading good players for garbage? Theres no point 'making tough calls' and putting big players up for trade if you don't have the balls to follow it through and get fair recompense.

Trading is about improving our list.

Someone explain to me how trading Brad Green for a late second round pick is going to improve our list.

What are the chances of us getting a player who is as good as Green with this late pick? Not only that, what are the chances that this pick will produce a player who will have good leadership skills and the ability to play forward and midfield?

I understand that after a bad season we want to throw out the baby, the bathwater and the bath too, but we can go over the top and suffer as a consequence. Drafting is an inexact science. Statistics show that most players drafted won't even reach 100 games. Green is a proven footballer, with at least 3-4 years left and a chance to captain the side next season.

Trading him for anything less than a top 10 pick would be silly, which is why the club said that it would take a very special deal to even get us to consider moving Green along.

I actually quite like the bath and hope we hold onto it if we can...

But yes, anything short of a top 10-12 pick or equivalent should be scoffed at.

its quite simple jaded. we arent in the premiership in the next 3-4 years so having Green around will not make a difference to our premiership hopes. On the contrary, if we pick up an 18 yr old draft pick, there is a fair chance that he will be provide good service for us during a time when we are having a crack at the flag.

I bet my life on the fact that the club sees us winning a flag in the next 3-4 years.

3-4 years is a LONG time in football. In 3 years time Rivers, Davey, McLean, Jones etc... will have 100-150 games experience and will be primed to win a flag. This is when 200+ gamers in Green will be very handy.

We are NOT rebuilding. We have a very good group of under 23's which we want to build around, that doesn't mean that we're starting from scratch, far from it. People forget that last year we missed out on the top 4 because we lost to Carlton! There was no ability issue in 2006 to make the finals, it was a mental issue.

Bailey could well get us into the top 4 next season, and when you're in the top 4, you're a chance.

I'm sure Geelong supporters thought they wouldn't win a flag for 3 or 4 years, given how badly they played last season. Same goes for Port, they made a GF only a few short years after winning a flag.

we most certainly are a premiership chance in the next 3-4 years.

agreed, not in the next 1-2 seasons, but how farkin long do u think it takes to build a premiership list.

PortAdelaide made the GF after completely restructuring their list from 2004!

MFC already has the platform on which to build:

Mclean, Jones, Sylvia, Rivers, Bate, Davey, Bell, Newton, Frawley, Moloney, Pettard, Bartram and Dunn will be the senior players in 2-3 years (with Johnstone,Green and Bruce the aging cream on top)...if we are still not competing for a flag in 4 years i will be a miserable person.

i understand that ur a cynical melbourne supporter who has an engrained sense of pessimism (dont all us demons supporters), but that is just being overly critical.

with good drafting in the next 2 years filling some holes in our team, we will be able to climb up the ladder very quickly.

there is no need to bottom out to win a premiership.

What Garbage, we don't know what we will get. It could be garbage but it could also be a very good young footballer. We think he is a big player but does the rest of the footy world, I think he is an good AFL player but no star and we have a good supply of honest hard working midfielders. You can't be safe all the time sometimes you need to take some risks to move forward, they might backfire but they also might turn out to be gold.

CAC has stated he wants more early picks and IMO I think Brad Green is worth a top 30 pick and if we want more picks and Brad Green is the only player other clubs are interested in and we can get what he is worth we take the trade. I wish it wasn't Brad Green but he seems to be the one with some interest.

It may not be garbage mate, but the simple fact is that Green is well worth more than pick 30 in a shallow draft. I don't have it on a piece of paper from Matt Rendell or James Fantasia or Greg Miller, I'm sorry, but I guarantee you that he is worth more than that. We could very easily squeeze a late 1st rounder out of a club that is on the cusp of a flag, and with a bit of negotiation, we could do even better. Everything has a value, but ideally you would want to play hardball and get that value increased. Pick 30 is not even ball park. Pick 15 is probably about right, but I wouldn't be overly satisfied unless we could get a top 10 pick, for the uncertainty factor and the leadership value of Green.

Why does everyone say we are at least 4 years off? it's ridiculously pessimistic.

3 of 4 prelim finalists this year didn't make the 8 last year, and both grand finalists! Collingwood was the 4th prelim finalist, and most people had them bottom few. We have a new coach, players back from injury and others who have had a really good crack at a pre-season, and we will get a draw playing more bottom 8 sides, plus some super draft picks and maybe some pre-season talent.

There is a lot to be positive about. Stop writing us off!

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
