Assuming they are at the Dees where do you see the following playing next year?

Bartram: With Godders gone could become #1 run with player. May also may the step as an in and under ball winner, also showed in '06 can play as a small defender

Bate: I like him as a roaming CHF. Can also play as a midfielder probably on the wing where he can still kick bomb goals and be a key go to man for inside 50's

Bell: Great this year as a Defender. With Ward and Brown gone does he play a more attacking role? A move to the midfield? Personally i think he should be trying to be our Jimmy Clement

Bruce: In the middle with perhaps more time up forward? great hands and very capable of finding the goals.

Davey: We really do lack a crumbing forward. Should he play deeper. Also a capable wingman or even HBF.

Dunn: I think he should focus on being a midfield run with player. Cam Ling should be looked at for inspiration.

Frawley: Should continue to get big jobs down back. With his speed could also be an attacking option from D50

Green: Either a quarterback role or perhaps a return to the forward flank for Greeny. Doesn't win enough of his own ball to play as a centre square midfielder.

Holland: Still the swingman. Full Back one week Full Forward the next Sandy the week after

Chris Johnson: Doesn't win his own footy but a good user. HB or HF

Paul Johnson: Has looked ok in the ruck ok up forward and ok at CHB without looking good at any. Ruck/Forward should be his focus

Johnstone: Rd 22 as a Andrew Mcleod quarterback worked. I still think he is most dangerous getting his touches forward of centre. Wing for me.

Miller: Looks more comfortable being an option up forward. I dunno i am a bit of loss with Brad should be playing.

Newton: If Neitz and Robbo are both fit and still at Melbourne Newts will struggle to find a gig at FF. Will probably have to play further up the ground. Has shown glimpses on a wing.

Petterd: Will continue to learn about AFL on the flanks back and forward.

Sylvia: Is his fit enough to play in the middle? If Robbo leaves is he his goal square replacement?

Whealtey: played some good footy this year as a mid sie back. I like when he pushes up the ground more and attacks the goals.

Yze: Days in the middle may have passed. Probably used as a forward or even off a HBF.

Sylvia and Dunn should both move into the midfield. Sylvia to develop a motor big enough to play as a permanent midfielder (what he was drafted for), and Dunn to play as a versatile tagger/tall midfielder/wingman.

Green and Bruce should replace Sylvia and Dunn on the Half Forward Flanks/ mobile CHFs.

Davey to play as a forward pocket- i wish we had someone else so he could be released more up the ground, but we desperately need a forward pocket.

Bartram/Bell/Pettard to play the attacking halfback roles with the loss of Ward and Brown. Whelan to play as defensive backpocket- he would be a great recruit if he can play a full season.

Bate to play true CHF and dvelop into one of the most promising young CHFs in the business.

Newton to play deep forward- we need to develop him into our next FF post Neitz. it's useful that he is versatile enough to play the wings, but i prefer him deep.

Frawley to be developed to take over Fullback- keep giving him the big tasks...its the only way he will learn to become a great backman.

My big prediction for 2008 is Chris Johnson doing what Yze did in 98 when given an opportunity/faith from a new coach, and fullfillng his potential.

Surely with Godfrey gone, Bartram is the tagger.

I think his strong marking, and the lack of other options, means I can see him spending a fair bit of time up forward. I guess that, like many others, he might get rotated through the midfield a bit.

I know some would like to see him move into the midfield, but he's played really well as a defender and it's not like we have a plethora of his type down back. The backline is definitely where I see his immediate future.

Needs to be played predominantly as a forward IMO. Who else do we have? Weetra is the only one that springs to mind, and I don't think he's even Sandy 1s yet, let alone MFC.

Fair call. I'm not sure Dunn has a future as a key forward, but he looked pretty good at times through the middle.

I'd groom him as a forward.

He did? I thought he played some good football this year on the wing, and that's where he should be. Releasing him up the ground means he can get more of the ball, and take advantage of his best asset - his kicking. Playing up the ground also means he can set up more attacking plays and kick more goals. On the flipside, when they have the ball his experience as a backman means he should be able to play defensively on his opponent.

Bartram should definately be marked as a run with player occassionally going to back pocket if the match-up suits.

Bate and Green should be roving the CHF area and providing deep leads into the midfield.

Bell is a strong, fast, determined defender. Yeah, he can attack a little more now that Ward and Brown are gone, but really I'd prefer him to stick to his number one task.

Bruce should be in the thick of things, midfield/onball with rests up forward. Has the engine, give him maximum game time as he will demand a tagger.

Davey should get back to the joy of his first years - forward crumber applying the pressure to opposition defenders. Should be given occassional run onball, just incase his evasive skills click in and he becomes as dangerous as GAblett. Don't like him on a wing or in wide open areas, he's just to good at making something out of a quarter-second gap.

Dunn is looking like the next Bruce - tall utility running with or providing a forward option. A possible future match-up for the weird match-ups like Brad Johnson.

Frawley needs to grow a bit to be a stay at home defender. We'll see how he goes but for now I see him as a tall rebounder, like Wheatley has often been.

Holland is our back-up Full-forward, Full-back and possibly even ruckman if Jamar gets traded.

Petterd & Chris Johnson will be competing for Ward's old role.

Paul Johnson could become Holland's best friend and worst enemy. At least his emphasis should be on ruck, then forward, then back. Big ask, but I like the guy's efforts.

Miller. I don't know. Directly competing with Holland as depth both forward and back?

Newton will find a place based up forward with midfield runs to keep him active. There will be a spot.

Sylvia will play like Mark Ricciuto. That's what they said. With fitness and focus, he could, too.

Yze will provide, at last, a good kick coming out of defence. Will also spend half a game in the FP just to shake things up a little.

That's eveyone you mentioned.

What about Whelan? Back pocket/run with tough nut again?

Carroll will be moved from full-back to second tall defender as soon as a replacement is found. That rides on Garland mostly, but maybe Ferguson will finally add another five kilos... Warnock seems big enough, but we're waiting on the footy smarts.

Simon Buckley, Jace Bode, any suggestions? I like Bode at FP, back-up to Davey. Buckley is Johnstone's understudy for my mind.

And one last thought, what the hell do we do with Brent Moloney? He was an unmistable gun before OP struck. Just what do we do if we get him back!?
